Everyone who has been calling for Szmodics to play this exact role will now realise why McKenna’s been so reluctant to do it. He's simply not a back to goal player. As the above comment says, he’s essentially a second striker. That role will have its place this season, but we will see plenty of Chappers from the start.

If we bring in a serious second striker to rival Hirst then I agree.

Because supply will always outstrip demand at football. And it means that working class (and, increasingly, middle class) people in this country won't reasonably be able to afford to watch.

Football without fans is nothing.

Either one of Salech or Ivanovic seem a no-brainer.

The second he went to the MLS for £20m+ he killed any chance of playing in England anytime soon.

We get them this season regardless. We just won't get the second instalment next season... because we'd be back in the Prem.

The bloke who's paid him money that most of us can barely comprehend and is letting him walk away on a free with a year left on his contract?

Hold Brentford to ransom....

It's a terrible way to do business. We need to be seen by PL clubs as a great club to do business with, and seen by the next batch of Omaris as a great club to go to and develop at, before securing a move.

James McConnell on loan?

I'd imagine there's a long, long list on potential PL loanees (20+) we'll have registered our interest in. Quite how we choose to prioritise/go after and can get done is another matter.

If we're any lower than sixth by Christmas we'll have a new manager.

Are Hackney/Ruiz really the profile that can play in a midfield two with Matusiwa? Our CM recruitment hints to me of a midfield three.

Albeit we are currently very short in there for two, let alone three!

Devastating blow, so gutted to lose Sam (n/t)

You have to think the decision's been made that SM won't be happy with a bit-part role and he may not be the dressing room leader we all think he is when he's not the first name on the team sheet. And ultimately, why should the club offer him a new deal? We gave him a huge bumper two-year deal last summer. I struggle to understand why he's come back to the table to ask for another new deal this year. The Kuwait-type offer would still be there next summer.

I wonder if we might be back in for Kalvin Phillips for another loan. (n/t)

I don't think you can have a bloke in a Championship dressing room on £150k a week.

I feel very bullish on Cam. Think he'll be our breakout star of the season. Easy to underestimate just how impressive his year at Wycombe was.

Think we'll sign one more big money CM starter and potentially try to secure an experienced head. Wonder if we would have kept Luongo in hindsight.

I've wondered this. Rumours abound that he may be on a match highest earner clause. Then it must come down to captaincy/first name on the teamsheet.

Absolutely nothing to fear from Wrexham unless they literally sign 15 players. Birmingham... we'll see eh.

I count 21 first teamers on the club's coverage. That's a fair chunk. If they don't know about the Morsy chatter and can't include a short clip of him...

Omari linked Brentford
at 19:50 14 Jul 2025

Lots of Town fans writing Brentford off. I can understand it but logically there's no reason to. They will have *planned* to sell their stars and will have had a succession plan in place for Frank. And to stay up, all they need to do is beat Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland. Doesn't sound that tricky does it?

London club, they play good football. Omari does two years there and moves to a top six club. Sadly, it's an absolute no brainer.

If he hasn't travelled due to injury etc the club should be savvy enough to say so. Silence causes this speculation. I'd be amazed if he's there -- they've just released more content on Instagram and absolutely no sign.
