Thought he was a standout performer last year and didn’t look out of place in the prem when he played in the latter half. Be sad to see him go but we have a lot of competition in that position. Sad that so many of our heroes from the 2 promotion years moving on but time marches on….
wow, few of the people on here have drunk the right-wing war on drugs kool-aid. People involved in drugs need to be managed as a health problem, not a criminal problem. In terms of cannabis many countries have legal access to cannabis and I think it would be a push to really argue that 14 years for involvement in something with minimal public health concern is proprtionate. The harm from different drugs are wildly different.
A generous and respectful assessment. I for one hope Newcastle take a place at the expense of Man City. EH has done an amazing job. Surely an England manager for the future.
Enciso is a similar boost to Hutchinson at the same point last year, what a player and would love to have him permanently although we are well represented in that spot. What a keeper palmer is and how resolute our defence looks now despite conceding. Doubt having palmer from week 1 would have been the difference between survival and not but it would have helped! Think we are pretty strong next season whatever happens.
Definitely a highlight of our new acquisitions, and certainly our best loan player- next year (presumably in the championship) we will need to replace morsy and luongo or/and provide cover- a big ask. Would dearly love to have Jens at the heart of next years team but it seems unlikely that we could afford him and whether he would want to drop down. Thank you Jens for this year however and good luck if you move on
McKenna has worked wonders in the last few years and I don’t believe that he has “found his level” or that he is out of his depth. We are simply a victim of the great chasm between the 2 leagues and are giving a better account of ourselves than other teams with more recent form at this level below us. His recruitment has been almost all young players who may not be at the level we need to survive right now but have bags of potential. And 1- he brought in delap, the best player here for 20 years probably, and wasn’t too stubborn to drop muric and bring in an excellent replacement. I hope he stays.
Clarke’s passion and commitment are always so evident and I love to watch him play. Unfortunately he is not quite ready to perform at this level but he is still very young and would love to see him back in a year or so after a successful loan.
The money we are spending is incredible. Delap, Hutch, Sammie, Ogbene, Clarke and Philogene… that’s over £100m on our frontline alone. Just a couple of those would be more than our combined spending in the clubs history. Incredible the investment in our club!
Agreed as well rodthegasman. The infrastructure is in place and better for being in the top flight. It won’t be like 2002 with the perfect storm of bad contributing factors. We will obviously have to sell but I can see good returns on our young promising investments and the board I think will have thought about the worst case scenario. At least if we do go down we get a break from VAR :-)
Credit where credit is due I thought muric had a decent game. Omari is one of the few who can bring the ball through the midfield and run at people but he has had a few poor games lately. He is young and probably needs to go back to being an impact sub for a break. Leif has not been on form lately, his touch seemed poor today and hence our left sided crosses have dropped off. burns seems to be the other player who aims for the byline and gets balls in which we otherwise didn’t do today although he is realistically a good championship player. Ho hum, dull spectacle but we move on and certainly not a disaster.
I think the most disappointing thing was the response to going behind, especially under the lights midweek. I have become conditioned over the years to not get that stomach drop when going a goal behind because we normally react so well and the never say die attitude has been a big part of our success. But the lack of this on the night was so disappointing and the subs didn’t really work out.
We definitely seem to perform more comfortably and freely when we are against bigger sides when a result is not as expected. Maybe that’s the approach of those teams allowing us to play more. That was an uncomfortable watch. As with any promoted side, one of our strengths the last 2 years has been grinding out a result when we haven’t been at our best. Palace did that today and we haven’t been able to do that- maybe a bit of experience. Maybe a bit of quality. Keep the faith…
I feel like we are all the lottery winners with Omari and Delap. Maybe rarer than winning the lottery but make no mistake- this is all your hard work… not some flash of luck. So happy to have you.
I still don’t really understand how FFP works. If we have spent £150m on players and this is another 30.. surely that takes us over our tv rights (which seem to be around 100 for the lower clubs last year). Does infrastructure count? Someone financial help me!
It was cringe… but glad to hear the apology.. and a good opportunity to rewatch this gem and get some perspective on life! And for the record- I don’t think she ever apologised for this- just doubled down :-)
