1961-62 season formation

We were also very lucky on the injury front using, if I remember correctly, just sixteen players. Compton came in early after an injury to Kenny Malcolm the previous season. Dermot Curtis replaced any injured forward, Reg Picket and Aled Owen played about four games between them whilst Wilf Hall capably covered for Roy Bailey five times. I also believe Doug Millward appeared once but in a League Cup match. Times were different in those days even with the ball, rarely was it changed, if it went out of play you waited for it to be returned. Too expensive to waste!
Jimmy Leadbetter was a thinner Scottish Arnold Meurhen.

Players over 30 winning first major trophy

Very underrated, I think he would be our first choice if available today in all but footwork which was not a requirement in those days. Against Lazio away I think it was Viljoen that sort cover behind him after scoring, he was a big bloke and the Italians did not fancy their chances.

Goodison, the ghosts of a previous football and thoughts on Town performance
at 08:46 5 May 2025

Originally several sports were played at Portman Road and the old cricket pavilion was there probably to the seventies serving as the changing rooms. The FL championship pictures of the players in the bath was in there. We even had an English Rugby Union trial there before the war and hockey internationals. The state of the playing surface was second to none.

Game over says Merson

Crikey Dawson is awful, never use one word when a few thousand are available. Prefer Merson to him.

If a bid of £30million is received then it is up to Delap. Ipswich have no say in the matter.

I presume a lot of the wage is the ongoing signing on fee. If he were sold the balance of that would have to be paid.

A tally after todays matches, assuming the Hashtag score stays at one nil, the difference is 37 thanks to our eleven today.

I watched the first half and they were quite impressive, a young midfielder called Wright stood out but there was still the odd calamity at the back.
They will knock on the door of the play offs next season.

April 8th 1978 FA Cup Semi Final ; WBA 1-3 Ipswich - memories please!

When Hunter conceded that penalty and they scored I, apparently, went so white my mate was concerned that I would have a heart attack. Then we started an attack down our left side and I was shouting at Mills to go back but he managed to get a corner. Not any corner THE corner and Warks head did the rest. Turner had time to miss a sitter or was he wasting time. Oh happy days.

As someone who has witnessed the side from 1950 that is not far from the best in my opinion. I think you have to have Ray Crawford in one of the blanks and either Eric Gates or Clive Woods in the other. Perhaps David Best may just edge out Richard Wright but it is marginal.

Bill McGarry was a great manager for us, very underrated. I would put him as the second best of the past managers above Ramsey.
