 | News Comment | Jewell: Targets All Youngsters at 10:02:48
Jewell is obviously receiving full confidence from Evans which is important. I do believe that at any other club, his record of 2 wins in 15 games would result i him being sacked. We just dont operate like that! Especially with two non footballing business men running the club. Like all Town fans, I believe that the priority has to lie in signing a commanding central defender, a right back and a striker. My fear is that our squad already accumulates such a large wage bill, thanks to Jewels policy of signing ex Prem players, that we wont be able to afford to make the permanent signings that we need. I hope that he is able to sign these players on permanent contracts and give the team some stability and allow the manager to pick a more settled side week in week out. If this happens and we can start to defend better, we will be safe for another season and Jewell will keep his job. Otherwise, we will reach perhaps the lowest point in our history. Get behind the team and keep the faith COYB |
 | News Comment | Burnley Emerge as Town\'s Main Rivals for Austin at 11:55:17
However dissapointing this looks likely to be, I have to say I am with StowTractorBoy on this to a certain extent. There are limits to how much we can offer, but presumably if we can afford to pay the lions share of Jimmy Bullard's premier league wages for the rest of the season (granted there is no transfer fee to be paid) then there must be room in ME's budget for players?? Especially when we are talking about a striker who clearly has a good goal scoring record and ticks all of the boxes of what we are crying out for!!! Having said that it does seem fairly obvious that Austin will sign for Burnley so we move on. I'm sure Jewel will have other irons in the fire- I would be very happy with someone like Jason Roberts for the rest of the season. He is proven at this level (Austin isn't) and has had a frustrating time at Blackburn this season and I'm sure would enjoying linking up with Jewel again. We need a boost in front of goal and I'm sure if the right player is avaiable, Jewel will get his man. |

On the face of it, this seems a shrewd appointment. A manager with loads of experience- mostly successful!! I'm assuming that his wage demands are lower than a Curbishly, Hodgson or O'Neill which makes him better suited to a club like ours. Like many managers at the start of a new job it is probable that he will turn to a previous club/players that he has worked with in the past for new recruits. He is rumoured to be well connected and liked within the game so should have enough contacts to call upon. It would be great to see someone like Jason Roberts signed on loan maybe. A real goal threat. Someone with genuine pace and power, good in the air and a decent scoring record in the Prem and Championship- just what we need!!!!! I'm confident that Jewell can make good signings, but his first task will have to be the re-building of the players confidence- which is pretty low right now. I'm right behind him!!! He is a good manager with a likeable friendly personality Good luck Paul!!! Welcome aboard |
