Broadhead latest…
at 15:02 31 Jul 2025

So roughly speaking, at the end of the transfer window we want to have 9 fit players across the front four (plus Burns). Broadhead (and/or AAH presumably) will be first out of the door if we end up with more than that?

Is there any sense that Burns has a part to play in the first half of the season? It was positive to see him in training gear in a number of ITFC social media posts.

Ao Tanaka, Leeds dont think good enough for premier league
at 10:34 28 Jul 2025

Potentially feels like a good option for a loan signing. Leeds might want to hold onto him if they get relegated, and we might not want to keep him if we get promoted, so could work out all round?

I imagine that might be where one of our loan signings come in? Its quite a challenging role to sign well for - you need someone who is happy to sit on the bench for at least half the season, but is good enough that you don't feel too concerned if they need to start 10+ games in a row

Will we see Jack Clarke with Young behind against Charlton?
at 16:22 27 Jul 2025

As someone who watched a lot of Premier League football between 2002 and ~2014, and then not much until last season, hearing Ashley Young being described and a defensively minded full back takes some time for me to get my head around.

What's your greatest ITFC 11 not including anyone who played for Alf or Bobby?
at 10:02 25 Jul 2025

I've defined "greatest" as different to "best" - i.e focusing on players who are at or approaching "club legend" status rather than necessarily the highest quality or strongest side:

GK: Wright
RB: Wilnis
CB: Woolf
CB: Mowbray
LB: Clapham
CM: Morsy
CM: Holland
CM: Magilton
RW: Dyer
LW: Hutchinson (or Reuser)
ST: Stewart

Worth noting that u21 loans don't get exempted from needing to be named in the 25 man squad

The curious case of Jack Taylor
at 11:20 21 Jul 2025

I reckon he is still a decent choice off the bench, particularly in games where we have control and he can push a bit further forward than whoever starts in the Luongo position. Agree he isn't a starter. I can see him stick around as back-up this year, particularly given the overhaul elsewhere in the midfield, and then leave next summer.

James McConnell on loan?
at 11:18 21 Jul 2025

I think that U-21 loans still count towards squad sizes, so we would need to buy him outright if we wanted him to be outside of the 25 man squad.

Without knowing much about the lad it seems like a good pick-up. If we can bring in someone like Hackney as well, a trio of McConnell, Taylor and Humphries feels like sufficiently strong back up for a promotion push.

I'm not sure he would be coming here to be 4th/5th choice.

If we get £40m for Omari that is a quite brilliant bit of business from Ashton

Why do you think we can only spend the profit on signing new players, rather than the amount we get minus any profit sharing?

If i buy a house for 300k and then sell it for 500k two years later, do I only have 200k to spend on a new house?

Lessons from last year
at 16:22 18 Jul 2025

Unfortunately he won't - from the EFL regulations:

"‘Under 21 Player’ means a Player under the age of 21 as at the 1 January in the year in
which the Season concerned commences.

For Season 2025/26 an Under 21 Player is someone born on or after 1 January 2005."

Cam was born in 2003, so wouldn't have made the cut last year, let alone this year.

Edit: it seems that the PL has different rules and judges "under 21" from a year earlier. So last season Cam would have been classed as an under 21 in the prem but not in the championship.

"What constitutes an Under-21 player?
For the 2025/26 Premier League season, Under-21 players will have been born on or after 1 January 2004."

The reality is though that we won't have a completely Prem ready squad this season, even if we do have ambition to do so. More realistic is to be in a position where, if we get promoted, we need to add 4-5 players to the squad rather than 12.
