I'm probably the only one on here who spent any time on Christmas Island.
It was the fag end of my National Service and it was as a part of the closing down operation.
I want to correct this idea that it was only soldiers who were there. There were many of us airmen, many sailors, marines and contingents from the Fijian army. There were also many from the nearby Gilbert and Elliss Islands who were there to act as cleaners, etc.. [Post edited 26 Jun 10:32]
