Yeah that's an interesting question. I would speculate that although footballers might retire from playing professionally they often stay as part of the whole football eco-system, whether that's as a professional coach, coaching in the amateur game, punditry etc. So retiring from playing professionally doesn't often allow a true escape from the environment that made it so difficult to come out. On top of that, the older someone gets, the more complicated it can be to come out. They might have built up a family or social circle that’s always seen them as straight, so breaking that image can feel even harder than it would for someone younger. [Post edited 3 Dec 2024 13:24]

Considering that nearly 4% of UK men identify as LGB, it’s likely that a significant number of footballers are LGBTQ+. Sadly, many don’t feel able to come out publicly. Just because there aren’t a significant number of professional footballers who are openly LGBTQ+ doesn’t mean there isn’t a considerable number who remain in the closet and may be deterred from coming out. Given recent events, I’m concerned about the club’s ability to recruit LGBTQ+ players for both the first team and youth teams. If ITFC is approaching gay players for our first team or academy, they might question whether the club captain will be welcoming, as his decision not to wear the armband doesn’t reflect a supportive attitude toward the LGBTQ+ community. If he chooses not to wear it, as is his personal right, he should take steps to show that, as our on-field leader and representative of the first team, he is genuinely welcoming and supportive of LGBTQ+ players. Otherwise our ability to attract gay players in the transfer market might be hindered, and any LGBTQ+ youth players coming through the academy might be tempted to look elsewhere. |

Two big units but god they were totally impenetrable yesterday. Barely gave Delap a sniff. Definitely one of the best centre-back pairings we've come up against this season. |

Not feeling confident about Harry Clarke having to face Eberechi Eze. We've seen him struggle against top wingers in the past. I wonder if KMC will go O'Shea at RB and Greaves and Burgess at CB. |

I expect Halo. Local company, can probably afford it given they also sponsor McLaren. Will want to be trying to advertise to US market. |
 | Forum Reply | Booing any anthem is a scumbag move at 11:52 18 Nov 2024
National anthems at sporting events are a totally ridiculous charade imo, so I couldn't care less about any of them being booed. Isn't it just football supporters engaging in the pantomime of it all? I don't see what makes a nation state's special song so important that booing it is any more of a scumbag move than me booing otbc at an EA derby. As you say, ours glorifies one of the roots of major social inequality (not to mention imperialism), the French anthem sings about watering the fields with the blood of the impure, the Spanish anthem was once the anthem of a brutal fascist regime, and I could go on. Most anthems deserve booing. |

If you're living in Suffolk and looking for work I'd recommend having a look at Halo as they're based in Stowmarket. They're expanding and looking to take on a lot of new staff, and its the tech industry so its a good industry to get into. From my understanding they're a more forward thinking company than most in Suffolk. |

Doesn't feel like there's a huge amount of excitement on here for Sunday's game. Maybe because of the disappointment of Saturday and that it's our third London away day in a row. I, for one, am very excited. I'm looking forward to visiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time. It looks like a great place to watch football and I expect 3k of us will be in great voice. And I think we'll give Tottenham a really good game. They've got a few injuries and playing them after Thursday night trip to Turkey couldn't be better timing. So, how's everyone feeling our first away game at the new Spurs ground? And how much of a chance do you lot reckon we have of getting a result there? |

Yep that's why we need to qualify for Europe and have a League Cup run. |

I highly doubt it tbh. He seems more interested in punditry and his entrepreneurial stuff than coaching. |

Good work for emailing. But the sponsors appear exactly the same when the cover is artwork or a photo. The justification isn't understandable whatsoever. |

This response makes little sense as the sponsor logos were separate to the artwork and appear in exactly the same format and position when the cover is a photo instead. Totally baffling. [Post edited 22 Oct 2024 12:52]

What gesture would you prefer? A raised fist like John Carlos and Tommie Smith in 1968? But you'd probably take issue with that too, because your real problem isn't actually with the gesture, is it? You'd just rather not acknowledge the existence of racial inequality at all. |
