Cook's first couple of months in charge were clearly a disappointment, as the responses to this question illustrate. Having taken over with Town on a positive run, Cook's record of played 16, won four, drawn seven and lost five was a long way from what was expected and what was required to get the Blues into the play-offs.
The new boss was thoroughly less than impressed with the squad he inherited and made that very clear in some of his media comment, which presumably didn't go down well with those players, players he still needed to do a job for him in the remaining weeks.
But few fans would argue that a clearly of the decks was required after three seasons of relegation and then mid-table League One mediocrity.
A losing mentality seemed to have been instilled within the squad and that probably couldn't have been eliminated without making sweeping changes.
Individually most of the players might slip into other sides in League One, but collectively there was a soft under belly and a lack of steel when the going got tough, presumably as a result of several seasons of failure.
