TWTD Questionnaire 2023/24 Q15 Best away fans at Portman Road this season?
While the Maidstone tie may not have been a great day for Town, it was a great day for football and the FA Cup. Although the Blues were the ones on the end of an embarrassing defeat, it's shocks like that which keep what was once the greatest competition in football still relevant.
It would probably have hurt more had we not won promotion to the Premier League, but the defeat was far removed from the Lincoln City cup upset in 2017. Then, Town were just awful. Against the Stones, the Blues were unlucky and the National League South side made the most of their two chances. On most other days Town would have won handsomely.
Their fans were superb, except perhaps the one who rolled himself down onto Blues supporters below him, clearly deliberately, and thoroughly enjoyed their day at Portman Road with Town, to their credit, allowing the Stones' supporters, players and staff as long as they wanted to bask in their moment of glory.
Huddersfield presumably get a nod for joining in the final day celebrations having not been particularly upset to have witnessed the Blues preventing local rivals Leeds from winning promotion.
