Is suggesting Berra is on his way back to Scotland in this transfer window if exit package can be struck.

If Smith is back this month then let him go if we can get any sort of fee for him. Good servant but is starting to look past his best and too error-prone.

A great servant to us and a real pro. However, I do slightly get the feeling he doesn't really want to be here any longer and wants to get back to his family, which is completely understandable.

If he did go we would need a decent backup, especially if we want to crack on with 352, which I think we should.

Trying to negotiate tearing up the last six months of his deal apparently.

Seems unlikely that we'd allow that, but you MM has always said he won't keep an unhappy player.

Problem is, we really need to hold onto him until Smith is definitely back and up to speed. If not, leaves us short of cover and ends the 3-5-2 experiment.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I was thinking that, unless Digby is played in a back 3.
I have been thinking that Christophe Berra would certainly be gone in the summer but we cannot really afford for him to go this month.

Berra hasn't been the same this season to be honest; whether his body has gone, his head has gone or both I'm not sure but he won't be as big a miss as he would have been in the past. We will need a replacement, though.

Very surprised if we let him go this month, especially for no fee and given our lack of options.

Someone said Moore can play CB?

I think an article somewhere said he started at centre back? I might be confusing him with another player though!

Agree with this, if he goes we could do with bringing in some defensive cover too.

A good mate is a Col U fan and he mentions Greg Halford every time a player is played in a different position.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Well, Naylor in reverse - started as a centre back, now centre forward!

Could explain that RB from Scotland we were linked with last week? Chambers back to middle. Smith as cover?

Nothing to say hes unhappy, more likely hes planning to leave in the Summer and there is a question mark about whether that can happen earlier.
Id expect that question to be answered with a no, though. Hes not going to get paid the same amount at Hearts and unless hes prepared to write off that difference for 6 months, I doubt Hearts will be able to afford to make up the difference (likely 200k?). Equally, we have a decent international CB for the next 6 months, where are we going to get another one of them for no fee- and why should we- which is going to suggest we will want some compensation too (unless we are feeling generous).

I dont think Hearts are in any sort of position to deal with it financially right now, unless ITFC are prepared to write off a fee and Berra is prepared to write off salary. Suspect all would agree it makes more sense to just sit tight for 5 months and he can go there anyway.

It's just about weighing up whether any compensense is acceptable.

If above, say, £250K OK? Otherwise let him walk at end season?

Berra going does mean Chambers gets to play in his favoured position with the the promising Emmanel having a real chance to improve/solidify.

Poll: W or W

Hearts have no money, so no fee coming our way. It would need Berra accepting we rip up contract i suggest to let him move for nothing

Shay Logan...contracted to Aberdeen until 2018. 28 years old, part of Brentford's League 1 promotion team. I thought being linked with a RB was odd, but Berra leaving would explain it.

But Chambers was in the middle yesterday so he can hardly move to cover Berra? Obviously once Smith is fit it's an option but it's a big ask for someone who's been out for so long to return playing 90 minutes week in, week out.

Out of contract in 5 months good age wouldn't cost a lot either.
