It was even better before the away supporters got moved. Enjoyed all of my Tuesday evening visits there (except the 5-0).

When Keane took over here, they were in the mire financially and only had a youth policy to recommend them - which wasn't enough to keep the highly rated John Bostock. However, they got their one decent season under Freedman/Holloway, got up and I look at them, for the size of club they are, and think, "We could have done that".

If there's one thing Ipswich specialise in, it's not having that 'one season'. We always do it the hard way, wouldn't it be lovely to have a relatively untroubled promotion season for once Under Burley it was a struggle despite great football Under Royle it was a struggle despite being free scoring Under Jim it was a struggle once Evans came in Jewell and Keane were a struggle full stop Even when McCarthy got it right, we have always needed a bit more to take us to the next level. We are now paying the price for it not having invested really at all on genuine quality. Freebies and loans only get you so far, you can't reap decent transfer fees but fail to reinvest adequately. I wasn't against the sale of Murphy provided we replaced him properly, we haven't even bothered to replace him with a genuine equivalent. I accept some of the money has gone towards Lawrence, Williams, Huws, Diagouraga, Samuel, Moore, Taylor, Spence and Rowe but it's papering over cracks we should have dealt with whilst we were strong.

They have rammed it up in a way I would love Ipswich fans to do,but I remember on numerous occasions going to their place and Town fans completely outsinging them from start to finish,in fact they did not even have a recognisable end, just silence. But fair play their support has improved beyond all recognition, but it`s easier when you have something to shout about rather then 10 years of boredom and crap

I live quite close to Palace and work with Palace fans. I praise their support but they tell me that's only really developed over the past 10-15 years. It was started by a group in the Holmesdale End (probably not that dissimilar to our Section 6). The difference is they have managed to unify the stadium. That said, success brings crowds and improves the atmosphere. McCarthy is right about one thing: Most fans, if they're truly honest with themselves, care only about winning, regardless of how it comes. Palace played a prettier game under Pardew but for the bulk of two seasons they've been dropping like a stone. Allardyce has made them tougher to beat and belligerent and now they may stay up. I appreciate their football is still way better than ours but that has a lot to do with quality of player. But I bet the same fans who were dismayed at Allardyce's appointment and fuming after he lost 4-0 at home to Sunderland forgot about those moments when they were beating Chelsea and Arsenal.
