Transfer window departure recap 08:01 - Jan 31 with 5385 viewsBluefish

Lots of posts at the start of the window criticising the club for selling players. Bart, McGoldrick definitely leaving and Evans was judged accordingly. Now we are on the last day and the only players that have left are our 4 or 5th choice centre half, a striker that was 4th choice at best having been mocked whenever he played for us and a 10th choice midfielder.

We have signed some young lads with potential, a prem loanee and championship experience and an experience central midfielder from the championship.

Without necessarily much to shout about it has been a successful window for Mick and his low budget.

We need to get an attacking wide player in that we actually own as we have to rely on a loanee there each season.

I agree it's been dull but we've also signed Drinan, the Neymar lookalike is joining, and Kai Brown is coming in. None are going to tear up the first team immediately but they fit with the five point plan of brining in youngsters with the potential to improve and be good for us or have a decent resale value. I'd have liked to see us bringing in an attacking wide player (probably a loan from the Prem) as I think that's the one area where we could strengthen and really push on, but as you say it looks like really pushing on isn't the ambition for this season. It does feel like even Evans just wants to get this season out of the way.

I'm relatively happy with the youngsters signing, but for me they are 'club' signings not first team signings and their development path will be dictated by someone other than Mick in both the short term and most likely in the long term too if he leaves in the summer. Even though Drinan is a bit closer, if we had a fit squad he'd be nowhere near from the snippets I've seen. He hasn't even been warming down after games when he is sub, like Chris Smith and Adam McDonnell weren't which suggests he hasn't been warming up - if that makes sense!

It's not been a bad or good window in reality, nothing of any note has really happened - the selling of Moore seems a bit pointless to me and whilst I can understand Smith going I'd rather he stayed personally but can see why club have allowed it to happen.

Something needs to happen ASAP for Mick's future, before the ST packs hit the doorsteps, or the death by a thousand cuts this season will become will be even worse than it looks like it's heading into.

Smith was fit for the Leeds and Sheff Utd games and Knudsen played ahead of him. I stand to be corrected if he wasnt fit. I didnt go to the Fulham game but consensus was he didnt have the best game so maybe that coincided with the interest from Colorado and Mick decided he would play Knudsen ahead of him.

He wasn't in the matchday 18 so presume he wasn't fit/available

Jonas is ahead of him at cb with kenlock covering

Wrong - please find any game where Tommy Smith has been in the matchday 18 and been on the bench whilst Knudsen has started at centre half.

I appreciate we are all chasing shadows here but one could just as validly presume that Mick decided to play Knudsen ahead of him unless he was indeed not fit. Who knows when the Colorado interest firmed up but that may have helped make Mick's decision for him to an extent.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

But if we are indeed desperate to win every game, then there's no way you would not have him on the bench ahead of Chris Smith if he either isn't fit, or is being protected for a move that suits all parties.

I can't believe that mick would prefer to play Knudsen and Kenlock over Smith and Knudsen all things being equal. And the fact that we signed CCV to enable Smith to go, rather than another left back as cover

One shred of evidence for this please? Was it the time against Fulham that a not really fit Smith started at CB with Knudsen LB and Kenlock on the bench?

He was unavailable for both games, not even on the bench. Mick said he was ill although it's possible it was more a case of the Colarado move being in process. Either way he wasn't open for selection. There has literally never been a time when Knudsen has played CB ahead of Smith when Smith has been available. I admire you and Truce for refusing to back down in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Dont get me wrong, I am pleased Palace didnt come in for him. But thats not the most exciting football event on the planet.

It is exciting for us mind! We need to keep our best players and in this instance our best player (who we actually own) is Bart. He proved his worth against Wolves, super performance.

I am not saying he has always been behind Knudsen but I am saying he is now. Jonas has filled in and gone ahead in the pecking order. We can't say smith is head of Knudsen because Smith started games months or years ago, we are talking about now. Tommy is still not reliable ot consistemt enough and has gone, he will never be better than chambers or Webster and Jonas and CCV adequate cover.

I admire you for thinking a player can't slip down a pecking order and consistently going back to old teamsheets. If You want to believe that Smith was 3rd choice you carrybon but he no longer was. He onviously was at times but so were many other players over the years that no longer are either

FFS man, Smith started at CB about 4 league games ago against Fulham with Knudsen at LB and Kenlock on the bench. 4 games ago, in 2018. Smith was very clearly first back up at CB for us, it's not even debatable. We signed CCV to take on that same role before allowing Smith to leave. It's not complicated.

Oh dont get me wrong, I literally dont care about this argument and am giving it the amount of attention it deserves. Being unfit is one thing, being unavailable is another. The fact remains, for now, that Knudsen played in the games I mentioned and Smith wasn't even in the squad, Mick said he was ill but plenty of players play when they are ill. So there hasnt "literally" never been a time as that would be a statement of fact when all we have is deductions not facts. It may well be that he chose Knudsen ahead of Smith in those games especially given that Smith allegedly had a very poor game at Fulham.

CCV is first choice CB ahead of Webster according to the last game.
