I genuinely had to read that header twice to make it didn't say 'Norwich City', that's how tinpot this is.

I've never really liked the idea of retiring shirt numbers anyway, apart from instances like Sala i.e a tragedy. Why not try and encourage young players to emulate those that have come before them. Who wouldn't want to be Man United's no.7, for example?

Birmingham City on 15:28 - Jul 23 with 1953 views | Pablokuqi | He only just turned 17 so he hadn't signed a pro contract yet as of a few weeks ago. He would therefore been entitled to leave for nothing or a very low fee unless I am mistaken. I wonder did he sign a contract in order to allow Birmingham to cash in and hence why they are so happy RE retiring shirt.

He signed it a while ago, as you can sign them early and they kick in - but it was very much to ensure Birmingham got a proper fee for him, he knew he would likely be going relatively early so a great thing to do to reward them. There is an argument he helped save them on the pitch this year, especially over last few weeks, and has also (when not necessary to do so) now saves them off the pitch It’s a very big and important contribution to them as a club, but seems remarkably OTT. Changing the name of young player of the year to the Jude Bellingham Trophy, or naming something after him in the academy seems more fitting
