Down under. Possibly with a couple of stops en route.

Probably better doing that through a specialist like Trailfinders. They do plenty of volume on that route so seem to find good prices.

Worth pricing it up from different departure airports too. Can often save a fair bit (and far more than the cost to get to them) if you're happy to go from Birmingham, Manchester etc rather than just your closest one.

A bit tricky but it will look at breaking a journey up to save money. You have to then contact companies direct to book however.

There are two websites that will sort your life out. Skyscanner and Trivago. That is all you need in life.

Also, click through from something like Quidco to get cashback on the purchase as well. Takes you through to the same place to book from, but you get something back as well.

One website.

Google.

https://www.google.co.uk/flights/

Even has a nice little map with the prices to all destinations on the map for the dates you've chosen if you can't decide where to go.

I'd be worried I was only being shown flights from companies that had, shall we say, made it worth Google's while to be put on the map.

This could also be true of Skyscanner of course but I have found them to be consistently good at providing economical flights. Quality is another matter and Trailfinders can come up trumps (if we can still use that term neutrally) here - using them for my recent jaunt meant that I avoided the rock bottom prices, and correspondingly a rock bottom, to fly Singapore Airlines to Singapore (economy but comfortable), Air New Zealand to Auckland (economy but excellent) and Vancouver (economy but decent) and Air Canada from Vancouver to Heathrow (truly awful). Caveat Emptor - Trailfinders saved money on scheduled and well branded flights but they could have pointed out that our ROTW could have included Buenos Aires in summer rather than Vancouver in winter!

There is no evidence that Google do that, in fact when they have sponsored links they make it abundantly clear. As you say, that could be a problem with any opaque flights search engine though.

I use Skyscanner a lot as well.

Shame, Buenos Aires is nice with truly excellent steak but 2 days is about enough time to be there.

glad to hear someone's using trivago. They launched over here a while back with a ridiculous blitz of TV advertising. They must have spent millions.

And as I said above, worth checking if these chosen airlines are on Quidco too, just for a little extra bit off the price in the way of cashback. Emirates have currently got 1.25% cashback (which I know isn't loads, but for an extra click, probably gets you a couple of pints at least),

Etihad is offering £25 cashback at the moment (but that offer expires in a day)

Qatar is offering 2% cashback

Use Airline websites direct.

Nearly all major airlines guarantee you won't find a lower price than sites such as Expedia etc

Best value routes to Australia tend to be via Emirates, Etihad or Qatar Airways. New planes, good service etc

I use SkyScanner BUT in summer I called a London based firm who apparently specialised in cheap flights...£397/each to fly to Boston and back out of JFK. Super cheap. Just before I went to pay I asked what airline it was with...it was with Ukraine Air flying to some random city in Ukraine on the way out and way back

Booked with Icelandair in the end.

One employer made me sign a disclaimer as the airline was on the EU list of sh1t airlines. Happy days.
