Cook and Balance were doing the right thing, albeit a little too slowly. Bavuma's catch to dismiss Cook was excellent.
It's been a bit rubbish since then albeit with the ball doing odd things all over the place (it was notable Friday just hoe low it stayed at times).

We have every chance of bowling them out for sub 180. They have done what they've done today a bowler light (Philander). And for one glorious moment, a fielder light (Philander also).
However, the hard new ball and a heavy roller may create a more regular bounce to start with and the Saffers maybget off to a similar start to Cook and Jennings in the 2nd Innings. It will then be all about Root holding his nerve and being able to attack in the third session as the ball ages and the pitch misbehaves, but as the lead is whittled down. Will he have the catchers in position when the inevitable uneven bounce comes into play?

Whoah! Elgar, Amla and De Kock. Three class players. Anything less than 300 and all it will take is two of those to get together and put on a stand. They won't need to score particularly quickly or take risks. They could play very conservatively and accumulate enough in the time.
The odds are still hugely in our favour, but the route to a South Africa win is not quite as unlikely as you are making out. Basically bowl us out for less than 200 and then two of the top 5 grinding out a 150 stand.
