They are indeed well suited. The Irish have played McCarthy style football for many years. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They're more in need of an upturn in performances and quality of football. They're not going to get that. Feel sorry for them. From Martin O'Neill to MM is a horrendous move. MM only qualified for 1 tournament with the best squad Ireland have ever had, what's he going to do with this squad, which is possibly their worst?

MM Radio news on 16:51 - Nov 22 with 2350 views | bohslegend | Delighted with this. Thanks to those with the disparaging remarks about Irish football above too. When Big Jack retired, so too did several senior pros and MM was brought in to do a rebuilding job. He was largely responsible for bringing Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, Ian Harte and plenty of others through from underage (didn't get credit for that in the comments above where people say he had better players back then - maybe true, but they were his players). I do agree that MM has the temperament for international football though, and with years of, yes, over achieving with clubs like Ipswich with limited resources and limited talent, I am a very happy Irishman looking forward to him putting shape on our team if this is true. The difference between our two countries, as in most cases, is the expectation of success and what success actually means. We would be very happy to see some of our up and coming underage players (poss 2 years away from being ready if I'm honest) being developed through to the senior squad. After that, we want to be competitive again and at the very least hungry to win. We don't expect to win every major competition (sporting or otherwise) we ever enter only to be depressed about it when it goes t1ts up in the end.
