The Ghandi gone on 14:22 - Jul 20 with 1704 views | STYG | What an odd photo. Asking the bloke who has run it brilliantly as a local for 32 years to look happy it's being leased to a national pizza chain. Had many a great curry in there.

The Ghandi gone on 14:40 - Jul 20 with 1618 views | GeoffSentence | Ghandi was definitely one of the best ones in Ipswich. It had a picture on the wall of the restaurant owner with Mahatma Ghandi, when one of my friends questioned him about it, after much toing and froing he eventually admitted it was taken at Madame Tussauds. There's already a pizza place down there, almost next door isnt there?

Thought The Shapla and Royal Bengal are both pretty decent. My two personal favs have now gone with the Gulshan and now the Ghandi.

Jorna never gets mentioned on these threads, which is a bit strange really - like you, the (few) curries I've had from there have always been very good... Maharani is good, as man Joe says. Jaipur out on Bixley is always solid. Chutneyz on Duke St does a good 'Indian' curry, as opposed to all of the above, which are your English Bangladeshi flex.

Disappointed last time I was there. Got my dad a prawn korma as he's not so keen and it was like a tray of tomato soup with half a dozen shrimps. He still insisted in trying to eat it with a knife and fork.

It seemed a strange decision to not cater to dining in, seeing as every other restaurant around did once they could. When you'd go past you just saw empty spaces where the tables used to be and wondered if it had closed, must have impacted business

I've been a bit disappointed when I've tried Chutneyz, quite pricey and everything is hugely overspiced. Indian village near me is always decent for takeaway, if I'm having a sit down then Maharani, Zaika or Passage to India tend to get my money.

Hell of a coincidence, bumping into Ghandi while he was also visiting Madame Tussauds.

I always used to eat in The Gandhi whenever back in Ipswich. We always popped in to see Mo after Covid, to see if he was going to re-open the restaurant (to eat in, not just takeaway) and he said that he had staffing issues, but was hoping to open up again soon. Such a shame. Was always a great meal, with good service.
