I particularly like Starmer's profile as a late-comer to politics but with a long and broad experience of life outside the bubble that still includes public service. The more we can get away from career party politicians the better.

All you fellow lefties on 18:23 - Jun 6 with 5751 views | bariotneblue | I'd like to see my local MP Neil Coyle as the next leader. He's extremely charismatic and a very good man as I've had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times in my local. He's well in touch with the community and seems popular within the party despite being an early opponent of Corbyn's leadership.

Possibly Hilary Benn but I think he is a bit two faced, plus he's got a silly girls name and other leaders might laugh at him. I'd like Alan Johnson but he's not interested. What about David Lammy? He's a nice guy but PM? Our politicians are a bit naff at the moment.

Lammy should never get anywhere near the PM job.

The notion of career politicians hides more specifics for Labour: red princes and over-focus on Oxbridge

i think thursday is going to be quite a shock for a lot of people - momentum's high water point has passed. a lot of people will realise that a huge tory majority isn't a success. some of course won't. but there may be more room for much of the party to draw together again than you imagine

All you fellow lefties on 18:38 - Jun 6 with 5623 views | brogansnose | Khan and Burnham are playing it smart by sidestepping the current shennanigans and looking statesmen like in their mayoral roles letting things play out and take their course. Both have got to be future candidates. Don't mind that Chuka Ummana bloke although he may still not fancy the gig. Can't see Jezza going after the election if they don't win as it doesn't look like Labour are going to get totally spanked.

They'd struggle grabbing the member votes. The real issue for Labour is the extent that democracy in the party is strengthened. If they go back to PLP dominance, and looking for a Stepford Politician to pander to Essex man, the NEC will add to Blair's lost voters

I like having a socialist leader of the Labour party. Before Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader, I always thought that David Miliband would return to British politics and lead the party in the future, eventually becoming PM.

Miliband is probably earning far too much money now to even consider coming back to The UK let alone politics.

All you fellow lefties on 19:27 - Jun 6 with 5485 views | EastTownBlue | I fear McDonnell. The right wing press will love dragging up his history. Clive Lewis will appeal to the newer members of the party while my preference Yvette Cooper will struggle in that respect. RLB or Angela Rayner might well go for the leadership role.

What's the 'too much baggage' that Clive Lewis comes with, in your opinion. I know him personally and it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts.

I guess we'll see - in a couple of years if the Tories are losing popularity, returning to the UK with a good chance of becoming PM might appeal. It's not necessarily what I want, just something I think could happen.

What's the baggage with Lewis ?...who would be my suggestion. Would give Cooper a listen to see what she has to offer.....(would depend how 'new Labour' she is)
