Likely because of the fact that Rishi Sunak, who promised the country integrity, porfessionalism and accountability is waving through Boris Johnson's resignation honours list of loons, bigots, incompetents and criminals and she's getting a peerage.

Strange that Johnson should reward loyalty, something that is quite unfamiliar to him.

The way I read it was Rishi was about to deny her the peerage because he wanted to avoid the byelection it would trigger - and now she's forced one anyway.

I thought it was very considerate of Boris to basically put together a list of cronies for the police to go through in his honours list.

It’s surreal isn’t it. Not that we should be surprised after Johnson Junior, Frost and Hannan ended up in there. Pay day for life with no need to even attend (especially if you’re the son of a former KHB agent who’s blacklisted in proper countries).

Bloody irresponsible of her. How much will it cost for a bi election less than 1 year before a GE. She should bloody pay for it.

Sunak lied. There was never any point talking about integrity when he and his crowd don’t actually know the meaning of the word. If he wasn’t just mugging the plebs off perhaps he’d care to explain his actions and in some case lack of them since he slithered through the door of Number 10.

What would have been honest is to say ‘we’re at the trough filling our boots while we can. Our primary aim is to do as much as we can for the five percent we represent before we are thrown out’.

They should just do away with resignation peerages altogether. Load of nonsense.

I think the Houchen one annoys me most. Being investigated for what on the outside looks to be some incredibly dodgy business dealings but he gets a peerage!?

Yep. I feel slightly embarrassed at even giving him the chance to live up to his words. Should have known what he was like based on his crap job as Chancellor. I thought we’d get less culture war bollox from him, and I suppose we do directly from him. But he’s happy for others to carry on with that, happy to continue lying to us and Parliament, happy to continue their mission to reduce democratic freedoms.

In short, he’s not a piece of sweetcorn. He’s part of the matrix the (increasingly rare) pieces of sweetcorn are buried in.

And people complained about Olympic champions - who are at least contributing to Britain and its image rather than these grifters who are actively destroying it.

A Conservative hold at the by-election though unfortunately

eh ?

Amersham, 16,000 majority overturned with 8000 spare

North Shrop, 23,000 majority overturned with 5000 spare

Tiverton, 24,000 majority overturned with 6000 spare

These are the last three by elections where a Tory was the sitting candidate. All three wiped out with massive swings.

Did you not see the 2022 and 2023 local elections ?

Voters are well aware of how to vote tactically (as in 1997). And like in 1997 the polls do not reflect that tactical voting pattern.

And the absurdity of the Prime Miniature, a ridiculous figure in trousers too short and a multi millionaire to boot, telling 'the north' he is the answer to their problems.

As most know it was him and Johnson and others before who were responsible for the problems the country is now facing. Inflation is higher than most other places, as is food*. Further interest rate risers are causing house price falls, and everywhere there are staff shortages.

Christ knows, what would happen were the Brexiters loony idea of border controls to be introduced. Even the not too bright Stick Insect blocked those controls as he admitted the cost would be heavy for UK voters.

Another rat has also jumped ship today. - Health Minister Will Quince. Perhaps, as in 1945, they could find asylum in South America.

and to think brexiters swallowed the all too obvious lie that food would actually be cheaper after brexit - like if you gave up your cash and carry card, so you could travel 100 mile to buy your groceries from a small corner shop

I wonder when, in her quietest moments, she might come to grasp that she has been used by a serial liar. She might then join other brexiters in realising that brexit was nothing more than a giant scam perpetrated by the wealthy to ultimately cut wages and lower standards.

But as I have always said, the UK will slowly return to the EU. And a comment from Barnier makes that appear ever more likely.

"Britain can reverse Brexit and rejoin the EU any time it likes Michel Barnier has said."
