Norris Out for Up to Five Months
Norris Out for Up to Five Months
Tuesday, 11th Aug 2009 08:56

Midfielder David Norris has been ruled out for up to five months with the knee injury he sustained at Coventry on Sunday. The ex-Plymouth man collided with team-mate Jon Stead during the second half of the 2-1 defeat.

Norris underwent a scan on Monday and will see a specialist later this week. It is expected that he’ll require surgery.

Manager Roy Keane says Norris’s absence is a blow: “It will be a big loss. He is a battler and he breaks up the play well and gets things going from there.”

Yesterday, Keane was quoted as saying that he had finished making his transfer window purchases but Norris's injury may persuade him he needs more cover with Dundee United's Morgero Gomis strongly linked with the Blues in the last couple of days.

GUTTED! He is possibly my favourite Town player, and I had high hopes for him this season. He will really progress under Keano I feel....

Get well soon Norris!

So .... will it now be a case of go with what we have, or get a new face in? Maybe Quinn will get a reprieve and force his way back in. Maybe Trotter will become a regular. Maybe Peters too will now stake a stronger claim for a regular place.

Its a shame as I thought we would see the best of him this year. At least we're not short in the midfeild department. Glad to see Peters back in the side by the way.

Turdy luck, deffo leaves us a bit short in midfield for me, time for a loan methinks Roy.

bad news. he is the closest thing we have to a true tough midfielder who can break up the opposition play. - obviously will have to see how healy turns out.
I wonder if roy will reconsider going back into the transfer market now. We are in real need of a top quality midfield 'battler' as RK said. that is the common denominator with promoted teams, not a '20 goal a season striker'. Get the wallet back out Marcus.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr, agree with all above, probably going to see the best of him this season, we need a tough midfielder, someone to get stuck in, "take their head off" (love that).
While we have boat loads of midfielders, they're all creative ones left now, garvan, trotter, peters, Martin etc. no winners.
The only good thing is the timing, we can go out and get someone to replace him.

I'm a big fan of Norris, love a player that gets stuck in like he does, such an unfortunate injury as well on the first day of the season.

We need cover here now I feel, but im worried about loaning players in to cover such a blood and sweat position like this, we are going to need Garvan to step up to the plate and become a permanent reliable fixture perhaps?

Get well soon Chuck - and as the story says 'up to' five months let's hope it's not that long. Jon Stead must be really gutted.

That's not a good start to the season! Let's hope it's a quick recovery.

Why does everyone seem to be forgetting Colin Healy? He's back from his suspension now, and judging from pre-season, he ain't afraid to go and put himself about, and let the players know what he thinks.

Either way, losing Norris is still a huge loss to us. =/

The RK concept would seem to be fairly rugged and so Gio, although his return would be nice, and even Garvin, would not really be a replacement. I think we might see RK look for a loan player or maybe "a character" he has worked with before who might fulfil the Norris role for a while.

A big miss, he has infectious drive and determination which has a habit of rubbing off on other players. Don't think replacing him with Gio is the answer, lets hope Healy can fill the gap. Almost wished we'd signed Whitehead now, and that's saying something...
