Southgate Hoping to Add to Squad Before Town Match
Southgate Hoping to Add to Squad Before Town Match
Thursday, 10th Sep 2009 16:25

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed that he hopes to add one or two loan players to his squad prior to Saturday’s game with the Blues. Town defender Gareth McAuley is amongst a number of players being linked with Boro.

Southgate said: "We're still very active at the moment trying to strengthen the squad with loans.

"I still only want to bring in he right types and if we bring in loan signings it will be geared towards potential permanent signings at the end of it.

"There's a good chance we could have someone in for Saturday, although whether it will be in time for him to start remains to be seen."

Southgate is reportedly close to adding Everton striker James Vaughan to his squad, while McAuley is one of a number of central defenders linked, along with Blackburn’s Zurab Khizanishvili, Sheffield United’s Matthew Killgallon and Preston’s Sean St Ledger.

If McAuley is on Boro's list of potential signings, it's unlikely that the Blues would allow the move until another senior defender has been added to the squad and until after Saturday's match.

Elsewhere, former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos says he feels his career is starting to move in the right direction at Tottenham: “In the past things did not go the way I would have liked but the truth is I began working harder every day until I improved and, thanks to God, things have been improving.”

Dos Santos was linked with a return to Portman Road earlier in the summer, but Harry Redknapp recently said he would come into his plans at White Hart Lane this season.

Even if we got another CB in, we wouldn't let him move there just before we play them, that would be sheer madness.

Agree with bedsitfc, if any of our players - McCauley, Delaney, Garvan, Pablo etc. have a couple of bad games our so called fans on here slate them as if they are totally rubbish and some of the vitriolic comments are unecessary and childish.

Look at the quality players being linked with Boro! So why McAuley too? ... Do the maths boo boys, you're not a bad player 'cause you've had a couple of poor games ... 'Boro know this.. as do others.

I hope he stays. For the last time, He was our best outfield player in the 2nd half of last season... So what if he had words with RK? Shows some balls that would...

He's a good player, and Ipswich are better with than without the Big G! 'nough Said.

Realist ... are you? 1 Mill? if he goes, it's on an Emergency Loan for 93 days - we turned the 1m down... I bet your one of those slowing the players down by hanging on the backs and shouting crud . . .

We all pay to go in, some of us to support - some not.

Can't we keep the players the Boo Boys slag and get rid of the Boo Boy Morons who wouldn't know a decent footballer if they tripped over one. Let them swell the ranks of the budgies as the real supporters won't miss them for a second.

corsham blue, i do get behind and support the team. Just because it would be a good deal if he went on loan then signed perminent for 1 mill doesnt mean i dont support the team. I will still get behind the team if he is in it, however i will also point out his factual mistakes.

1 million a good deal realist????????

we paid 2 million i think, how would losing 1 million be a good deal
sounds like you were in charge of one of our banks when the credit
crunch started.
he is a top defender that starts off slow admit i would rather he was up to speed when the season starts but he will come good and if people got behind him it could only help.

If anybody on here thinks that Ipswich are in the position they are because of individual mistakes by McCauley , Delaney ,Garvan etc they are very deluded . We have no shape , no continuity ,different back four every game ,no team system and certainly no back up system , and most importantly no belief. This is down to the manager and coaching set up to sort privately without critiscing players in public as this cannot build confidence which we are lacking quite clearly.
I am a fan of RK and think he will do well for the town ,so lets stop slagging off individual players who are good players and have done well for us in the past and get behind the team and wait for the results to come .
We will beat Boro !!

Absolute disgrace if we let Macauley go. Give him a run. He is a good player.

McAuley plays well at full back for N.Ireland. We should move him there and put Bruce in the middle. Balkestian is my main concern. We need someone better than him desperately.

Let him go before the game we might get a couple of goals from our pointless long balls then!
