Keane Targeting Two Loan Signings
Keane Targeting Two Loan Signings
Monday, 28th Sep 2009 10:57

Boss Roy Keane says Town have two loan targets they are hoping to bring to the club before Saturday’s game at Barnsley. Keane is understood to have been involved in a meeting at the club yesterday which presumably also included owner Marcus Evans, who attended Saturday’s game against Newcastle.

The Town manager says he is getting closer to adding to his squad and hinted that one of the additions is likely to be a centre-half, with Alex Bruce likely to be out of action for up to a fortnight with a groin injury: “Maybe this week. There’s been a little bit of progress over the last 24 hours. We’re trying. It’s a touch closer.

“I’ve got two targets in mind and we’re working very hard and there’s a bit to go yet on the negotiations.”

Keane admits that there have been one or two setbacks as he has sought to add to his options: “We’ve hit one or two brick walls, but I think there has been progress over the last 24 hours, however, there’s still a bit of work to be done over the next few days. Nothing will happen before tomorrow night but by the weekend I’m a bit more hopeful.

“I’ve been saying for the last couple of months, there are one or two areas of the club I think we need improving. It’s very good talking about the problems have in certain areas, in terms of defending, particularly set pieces, but we need to talk about the solution and get one or two players in.

“Trust me, it’s easier said than done. I could draw you up a list of players, but it’s trying to get the ones we think will help improve us.”

The Blues boss dismissed weekend newspaper claims that talks have been ongoing with Sol Campbell since last week, but again failed to rule out a move for the former England man: “No, not that I’m aware of. I mentioned him [on Friday] because I was asked a question about him. Am I interested? We’re interested in all good players.”

Keane says he is well aware that there will have to be an upturn in form sooner rather than later: “The bottom line is, if results don't improve there will be changes. I'll be losing my job if results don't improve.”

While Alex Bruce is definitely out of Tuesday’s game at Bramall Lane, Gareth McAuley trained yesterday and will be involved in a light session today and could be available, havin missed out at the weekend due to a calf injury. David Wright and youngster Troy Brown are also expected to travel to South Yorkshire.

Striker Connor Wickham will remain behind after suffering with a groin injury in recent weeks.

"...and that will be 10 games with out a win and puts us in real trouble, and almost without a chance of challanging for promotion at any stage of the season."

Challenging for promotion?!! We're in a real relegation battle, of that I'm certain.

Seriously, some of you lot make me sick!! - What right have you all got to DEMAND success?? - Yes we have got off to a shocking start but it was only a few weeks ago that Roy Keane was the best thing since sliced bread.
I can't defend the results or the performances but reading all you lot moaning about him and slating him is laughable, try SUPPORTING Roy and the team, I read on here how you are all loyal supporters etc, I beg to differ! - You are all the same people that called for Jims head (I was also one of them) and now I come on here and listen to Radio Suffolk and hear the same people back tracking, its pathetic!
You people seem to forget what Roy took over, a mediocre team with lots of bad signings by Jim, Delaney aside, Roys signings look ok, but they need time to gel. We aint gonna go up this season but if it means that he can get a settled side that finishes strongly then that bodes well for the future.
You earn success, not demand it, wake up people and stop being so fickle and support OUR club!!

Yeah Kev, I would be to want to sign two useless players in a desperate attempt to improve a squad that is not up to scratch at tier two level that we have wasted millions on. I never thought we would be promoted, I did think we may see some mild improvement for the money spent. Keane left too much, too late and if his Sunderland revelations are anything to go by hes a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. No wonder Dean Whitehead did not want to sign for us, if he got hit in the head!

I know we need more players in but do we really want anymore of Keane's choices at our club?...For the last 2 or 3 weeks I just feel like i've been waiting for Keane to just go so we can get someone more suited to the ipswich job in ..ie.Curbishley,Coppell or Burley.

I'm sure Matt Holland could do no worse than Keane's doing - just look what a fantastic job Eddie Howe has done at Bournemouth and he had no experience at all.

I think something's going to give in the next 7 days - either we'll be 6 points better off or looking for a new manager.

Havinit69 - im with you.............

There are a lot of fair weather supporters on here.........

The real ones are the ones that get behind the team and the gaffer and see it out, rather than moaning and talking rubbish knowing nothing about football.

Am i upset by the start to this season, yes i am. But i want sit there moaning about it, suggest a few of you get off the gaffer's back, the players are the ones paid to perform, the buck stops with them!

Unfortunately I think we need 3 new players a couple of central defenders and a play making midfield player. Its OK to bash our strikers but what kind of service have they had this season. Colback and Quinn work hard but have they created the link bewtween the back 4 and the strikers - sadly no hence the back four hoof the ball forward to strikers chasing a losing battle. Again I will say I am sick and tired of MaCauley being trashed on here he is in my IMO better than Bruce and Pim will ever be. Can you wonder he loses confidence if he reads these notices. The poor bloke should never have carried on against Forest after suffering his injury but because we have nothing better he had to soldier on. He almost won some of the POY awards last season and does not become a bad player overnight for heavens sake leave him alone and give him some encouragement. Although Leicester went down a couple of years ago they had one of the best defences in the division they just could not score. The problem is not all MaCauley its the players who play next to hm i.e. Bruce, Smith and Pim all IMO worse than MaCauley. Sorry for the rant I guess its the frustration of our scenario at present as I am really worried about my beloved Club.

The Truth.... These are the same supporters that will be saying how great the man is if and when he turns it round.

Like the end of last season for example!

No supporter likes watching their team get beat, especially when they aint even so much as competing. But at least with Roy you get honesty, he knows we've been awful and is brave enough to take the bulk of the blame, but how is it his fault that Delaney couldn't mark Nolan for the first goal, Pim making a schoolboy error for the second etc...

Mark my words, we WILL come good and I look forward to coming on here and hearing everyone saying how great Roy is... Because its going to happen whether these "supporters" like it or not and I for one want to give Keane EVERY opporunity to take us to the promised land.

The players are scared to make mistakes and so they can't relax and play football...That is obvious with the defense !!! People keep going on about the defense because we let in goals ( clearly we do ) , but the midfield is basically non-existant ...and if they can't hold the ball ..then the defense is under pressure all game and we can't get the ball forward to the attack to score goals....it was sad to watch on sat ..when after 83 mins....Pim had a shot that went 15 yards wide and the whole crowd stood up and cheered as it was the first shot on goal !!!
It isn't a matter of IF RM is a good manager or not ...if he has lost the changing room then it will never come back ...and he will have to go ...i guess IF and WHEN we get a win .,..we will see quickly if the confidence will come back or not ....if it doesn't ...then we will have to leave .....and Roy will know that ....

Why oh why did he bring in Pim. He was useless earlier in the season didn't even make the bench in the previous 2 games.
I think a lot of the defensive problems stem from the midfield problems. We were completely over run in midfield which resulted in lots of pressure being put on the back four. Delaney was useless, Pim was worse than useless but the midfield made them look even worse by exposing them.
Please please just get a settled back 4 and stick with them. Smith was better than Pim by a country mile when he came on and last season McAuley was solid so please Keano just give those two a run in the team whilst Bruce is injured and perhaps you might just find they get a bit of an understanding and we can sure up those cracks until we can bring some quality in.

Ok, let's assume we can't attract big players. Let's follow the logic. That means if we want to get promoted then young players have to get bigger at this club and we keep them for some years before selling them on. It also means that we have to build a team over years, as did Robson and Burley under very patient chairmen.

Marcus Evans, Roy Keane, Simon Clegg, and loads of fans want Town to be big club sooner rather than later and no one wants to wait.

The irony seems to me that all the team needed when Magilton came in and then when Keane came in was a stronger defense. Instead, they reshuffled the midfield pack yet again, signed a bunch of journeymen no better than the ones there to start with, then they scratched their heads and wondered why the team continued to leak goals with the added handicap that the midfield didn't know what to expect from each other.

The big money short-termism we're all caught up means that no manager is ever going to have time enough to do anything except produce a one-off promotion chaser that (luckily) goes up, collects the Premier League bounty to pay off all the investors, then slides back down into the laps of us working folk who just want to see a competitive side playing attractive football, and not necessarily a team completely littered with overpaid megastars.

I worry about this stuff but will continue to come because I love this team and only want to see the same commitment to it from everyone involved.

I am sure a lot of the comments on here come from Britannia stand occupants, demanding success at the drop of a hat, love Jim Magilton, Love Owen Garvan, oh why did we sell Jordan, he would have fired us to the premier league.

Carry on eating your prawn sandwiches..........

SlowTractor,Havinit69 good comments. We all saw on Saturday how far behind we are to likes of Newcastle,Boro and WBA we have played all three and been battered scoring one (pen) and conceding 9 could have been 19!!!
With you Havinit69 RK did say it would take time,we expected promotion this year having won our first two games under RK. How bad have we been for somtime? RK will sort this, have faith
Will continue to follow the mighty blues, lets get behind them on Tuesday.

Thetruth added 14:13 - Sep 28
Lets be honest now......... and yes Crawler I am RK how did you blow my cover?

We didnt have much chance of promotion this year, the teams that came down have too much for this division and will be the 3 that go up.

So lets all get off the promotion train and take a breath and relax a bit.

Money dosent buy success, Magilton proved that, he had a massive budget in Championship standards with 12mil. We finished 9th 6 points off the play off's, there are many on here that think that was amazing????

He signed a lot of this squad, i didnt like them last season and i dont like them now. Keane has made a couple of bad ones, Delaney and healy the 2 that stand out, but the guy needs to be given a bit of time to sort it out, i mean come on we are at the end of September??? We all think we can do better than Roy Keane, we have all taken Ipswich to the heights on football manger!!

The guy commands respect, he dosent go on the p*** with the team, he dosent play you because you let him win at golf, and he dosent put up with people who thinks its okay to turn up late for training, I like that, its what we needed. He is an honest man, knows the wrongs, and hopefully is going to get the players in to sort that s**** excuse of a defence out.

All this talk of losing the dressing room etc etc etc is rubbish. We didnt need that game to come so quickly for us, it didnt help, and tomorrow night is definately not going to help.

PROMOTION is over, relegation will not happen, its going to be another dull ache season at Portman Road. But Keane deserves a go at this, he signed for 2 years, and deserves 2 years. Why would you want a new manager??? You all wanted Keane when town signed him, you all wet yourselves and smelt the premier league, you all believed we have a right to be in the Premier league. The answer is we dont, it needs a lot that the players in this side dont have at the moment, time will tell if they can cut it, but give them a chance.

Our problems are simple, defence and strikers that couldnt hit a barn door, it has nothing to do with service, these lads have been shocking?? Roy Keane as a player was nasty and gave his all, unfortunately these lads have not got the same metal, so it is obvious to some of you, lets get Keane sacked, he is rubbish, hes lots the dressing room blah blah blah.

if we did hit league 1, i guarantee like the scum north of us we wouldnt have 24000 attending!! Why are there not 27000 every week? Simple, they only coming running when there success is here or something special is happening. Jog on and find another club!

Lets look at the facts - We moaned about Jim, he caused the club so much problems etc etc - Can i Just say Jim so far this season is better than our current RK. I understand some of you are unhappy with RK. The facts are he has taken on Jims side and has to get rid of the players before he can move on. I really do believe he will turn the club around, but the state of the club is very poor and will not be done overnight. I feel us supports should get behind him and give him time to turn it around. If we don't go up this year and its looking likely to be the case, we need to give RK time to build a side for next year. I know its hard times but don't jump ship. I was up set Saturday as well, At least we are not in the position of our Norfolk Neighbours.

RK is the man for the job - so if your a true fan entrust your support to him and the club and he will produce.

I can see a couple of gems from RK out of the blue you see !!!!!

Sadly, finishing 9th and 6 points off of the play-offs sounds pretty to me good at the moment..I hope Jim takes QPR up this season - that'll shut a few people up.

And for future reference - I am not one of those supporters demanding instant success - If I was in charge i'd give Alan Curbishley & Matt Holland the job and a big fat 5 year contract (at the very least) and tell them to build the club up from scratch ala what George Burley did 10+ years ago.

Keane was a risk - an exciting risk at that - but I feared from day 1 that it wouldn't be long til there were "where did it all go wrong" headlines.

I hope for the club's sake he proves us all wrong over the coming weeks.

havinit69 added 14:31 - Sep 28
Lightningboy... So you'd give Curbishley time but you won't give Keane time to do the same job ? - I think I rest my case... Fickle ! - Always has to be a scapegoat.

Can you not see that it was Jims side that RK took over ? - He aint gonna change that overnight. So, Like ur George Burley, give him time to make an impact and get off his back !!

The truth ... we are not saying get rid of Keane but you seem to think he is blameless ,he has spent a lot more money than most managers in this league and there seems no improvement, saying the problems are simple the defence and forwards ,they are his signings and selection -Saturdays game 6 new signings all poor , 2 players Jim was trying to get rid of as he thought they werent up to it ,Pim a squad signing at best and Wright and Walters our best performers this year.I wanted Jim out and will continue to support the town and Roy but it is worrying . And if we do get relegated we can always use your "we werent ready " card from your earlier post !!!

SURCO 72

For me its simple, im a supporter. I wont be on here moaning and groaning calling for a mangers head who is 10 games into a season.

You can not judge players on Saturdays game, we were playing a premier league side, who are a class above anyone in this division. I knew we would get a taste on Saturday and thats just what happened, they are too much for us. We are not a club who attract 57000 supporters in the premier league and who have a team of high paid quality players. So you can save your judgements on our players for another game, because one thing we are not is premier league quality.

What frustrates me is the utter rubbish posted by some people on here, we gave magilton 3 years, we didnt get promotion. Then someone says lets give curbs and holland 5 years???? Lets give Roy Keane 10 games and call for his head!!!

I know one thing if we do get relegated then I for one will still be there, thats what supporting is about, thick and thin, something that we lack judging by our crowds.

If you demand success then buy a season ticket for Man Utd, your not welcome here!
