Colchester Garvan Loan Club
Colchester Garvan Loan Club
Friday, 2nd Oct 2009 15:25

Colchester United are understood to be the club which midfielder Owen Garvan opted against joining on loan a fortnight ago, while Huddersfield United are also believed to be interested in the Republic of Ireland U21 skipper. Garvan is currently out of Roy Keane’s plans at Portman Road.

Last week, Keane revealed that Garvan had decided against a temporary switch to an unnamed club: “Owen had an opportunity last week, but he didn’t want to go and get some games.”

The U’s are said to be continuing their pursuit of the Dubliner, who hasn’t played for Town since the defeat at West Brom at the end of August.

Huddersfield are also believed to have showed interest in the 21-year-old, who recently expressed his determination to get back in Roy Keane’s plans.

Meanwhile, stand-in skipper Jon Walters has backed Keane to be a success with the Blues: “Without a shadow of doubt we have a manager who can take us places.

“Our training is first class and no one at the club wants to be in the position we now find ourselves.

“It is no reflection on where we want to be and look forward to being in the not too distant future.”

I don't think he'll make it I'm afraid. Hope I'm wrong but there seems to be an underlying problem here, he wasn't a regular for Jim and RK is clearly not impressed. He definatley has some talent but lacks pace and there are definatley questionmarks over the way way he applies himself. I think he played too much 1st team football and had too many accolades as a youngster and this has affected is outlook.

The truth is this, Garvan is good on the ball and has a fairly decent footballing brain, but he lacks pace and that'll never change....good for League One but he'll never be a top Championship player who'll be good enough for the Prem and that's what you need to be today..

I'm not sure if it is true that the players won't play for Keane, but I watched "The Damned United" this evening and the start of Keane's reign does mirror that of Clough's time at Leeds a little bit. Will it end in the same way?!

As for Garvan, I thought he would become a Premier League player but last season was disappointing and it is true he lacks pace. He needs confidence I think or his head drops.

why are you so concerned about his lack of pace, he's a cm not a winger. his job is to thread the balls through to the strikers, tackle and pass consistently. I agree pace is an advantage but it is not a neccesity.

btw - garvan is twice the player trotter is in my opinion.

Trotter & Garvan are different players with different strengths & weaknesses. Its rather pointless comparing them against each other. A midfield full of Garven's would be over run, and a midfield full of Trotters would create anything. Its the blend that counts.

I think playing Trotter in front of the back four is the right idea, and I think he's done OK in the last couple of games. If Garven were to play instead, we'd be even more leaky at the back. Garven is just not offering enough for me at the moment. We can't afford the luxury of including him right now IMHO.

It sounds more like a personality clash than a judgement of his playing ability, if he's not taking well to Keane's management style then a month or two away could be good for his personal development.

I get the feeling that Evans would be the type to sound out replacements before deciding to sack someone. If he feels the time's right for a change, he'll make it; if he feels things will improve he'll give it time. At the moment he's too unknown.

Why is anyone even worrying? Come January the only two midfielders that are getting any look in for first team places week in week out are Leadbitter and Norris, in which we'll have one of the strongest central midfield pairs in the league.
Garvan hasn't flourished at ITFC, and is now paying the consequences for his actions, case and closed.

Pace is essential in a CM. How is he supposed to close down a player if he has no pace? It is not always about speedy runs into space, a footballing brain will get you in the right place, but you need to be swift over the first few yards to get that tackle in, something I think he lacks.

Isn't it ironic that someone being sarcastic is mistaken for being pedantic.Still I think Garvan is a great talent just needs handling properly

Purple alien is correct. Garvan just doesnt fit in at the moment. Leadbitter is twice the attacker he is and garvan doesnt defend enough.

Garvan did well not to go on loan ,Keane obviously doesnt like him but he will be gone soon and a new manager can surely see that Gavan is better than Trotter, Quinn or Healy !!!

He ain't going because he thinks the manager is going to change very soon. A power struggle me thinks.

Garvan is showing the commitment to the team which others arnt. garvan and leadbitter in cm for the time being untill norris is available, a goood replacement in my eyes. Hes creative and goood on the ball. What more could you want from a young lad who wants to play first team football at the highest level.

Im starting to wonder if we'll ever get out of this but these next 2 weeks will prove if we are good enuff..... which we arnt!!!!

Garvan should be a fixed member of the squad he is by far the best footballer we have and therfore roy keane should actually consider him in his plans, i mean garvan didnt even get into the reserve side! Magilton did it with him and now keane is, he deserves better, he always puts in 100%!

chalkandcheese - "he is a big head and thinks he should start every game no matter what... thinks he is a steven gerrad, he needs to grow up, shut up and get on with playing football. his has let himself down and no wonder RK and the coaching team have not picked him....

loan might of done him good and open his eyes to the real world and how other clubs work..... "

do you KNOW Garvan on a personal level?
