Town Turn Down Loan Bid
Town Turn Down Loan Bid
Friday, 23rd Oct 2009 10:18

Boss Roy Keane has revealed that Town turned down a loan bid earlier in the week. The Blues manager wouldn’t be drawn on either the club or the player involved.

Keane said: “One came the other day which we turned down for one of our players.”

Derby boss Nigel Clough confirmed that his club had made an enquiry regarding Jon Stead earlier in the week, but this seems unlikely to be the move which was rebuffed.

Keane says that if clubs want his players, then they should make firm offers: “They can make enquiries all they want.

“I was on to a manager last night for a good half an hour. You chat, you discuss players, you discuss possibilities, but if clubs are interested in any of my players, then they should make an offer.”

Keane says his own search for two loan players goes on: “It continues. There have been some calls over the last one or two days both for players from our club and I’ve made enquiries for one or two others and there may be news next week. But nothing will happen today.”

Town will be without striker Jon Walters at Plymouth on Saturday due to the sprained ankle he suffered on Tuesday. The injury is not serious and the former Chester man should be back in training within days.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham, who also misses the Plymouth game as he is away with the England U17s, has been speculatively linked with Chelsea. The Premier League side are said to see him as a potential target with their transfer ban set to be suspended until after their appeal to the Court of Arbitration in Sport has been heard.

Elsewhere, the Portman Road gym is reportedly being kitted out as a call centre for the Liberal Democrats in time for the next General Election. Club owner and chairman Marcus Evans is a long-time supporter of the Lib Dems, while chief executive Simon Clegg is reported to have said that the club is willing to rent similar facilities to the other parties if asked.

Why does keen say "they should make an offer"?? The report suggests they did make a firm loan offer?? Obviously he can't mean perm transfer as the window is shut?!?!

If I have to listen to anymore of Keanes b**locks at press time I'll go mad!!!
I don't care about who's rung who, you promised us loan players, now you seem intent on letting players OUT on loan. Get it sorted Keaneo we need a striker and a CB at the very least, other clubs seem to manage it...why can't we??????

Also letting the 'fence sitting' Lib Dems use our Gym as a call centre, seems to me we've sold our club & changed it to a corporate venue, no interest in the FACT we're bottom of the league or football. These are indeed sad times for the club!!!

It's criminal that we've got a very good young prospect/talent in Garvan wasting at this club..if only we had a manager who could get the best out of him.

And i'd rather keep Stead and ship out Priskin to be honest.

"speculatively linked " - won't get too excited about that then - as it means nothing and there is no indication as to who is actually doing the speculating (bored/lazy journo?).. ..could be my auntie.

Which is not to say that clubs won't be sniffing around CW - only to be expected.

Grow up callumgarryskeemer im getting sick of 'fans' asking for rk to be sacked. Yes we've had an awful start and yes rk's made some dodgy signings but things are improving. If you'd have been there on tues which I doubt we can see that things are going in the right direction. I'm sure if I was seeing the results come in at home I'd blame the manager but performances have been getting better. Roll on Plymouth

Roy Keane aint no mug.Stop the negative vibe.If we could bring in a Norris or Civelli or even both, our squad would look very strong. From the start RK said two years and no fans were moaning then, quite the opposite.Roy got Sunderland up,why not us?
I for one still have to pinch myself when I realise we have such a potent boss as Mr.Keane.

When we have Norris and Civelli back I would go as far as saying our midfield would hack it with several of the premiership clubs!

Civelli leadbitter norris edwards - sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

We all need to be behind Keano and the boys! If we start getting on their backs we are sure to go down. We need some of our bad luck to reverse and with a couple of wins who knows what can happen. We really need a win this weekend or my life is not worth living when I go back to work on Monday.
Come on you Blues, Come on Keano, Come on you Tractor Boys.

I dont understand all the bad luck stuff ? Why is letting a goal in injury time any different to any other time in the match ? It is just poor defending 5 minutes, 30 minutes or 94 minutes simple as that . Bad luck is having good goals disallowed ,dodgy penalty decisions go against us , a beach ball on the pitch ,lets stop trying to find excuses why we are bottom and realise we have only kept one clean sheet ,let in a lot and not scored enough goals .
The football against Watford was great and if we can follow that up tomorrow with the same kind of performance i am sure we will get a result and kick on from there against Derby and Reading .
But lets stop pretending that everything is fine and every decision Roy makes is great and continue to support as well as we have because that is what makes Ipswich so special .
Up the Blues 3-1 win tomorrow !!!

@callumgarryskeemer your whinging like a little girl. You have an opinion one which I see loads of fans are tired of hearing. Get behind the team for a change or go support another club either way get over yourself.

If the enquiry was for Garvan surely it would not have been turned down by the club. The club accepted a bid by Colchester, but it was Garvan himself that said no.

Wasn't Lisbie called back for Col U because of interest. Perhaps some one was in for him but wasn't prepared to pay a high enough percentage of his wages.

It may have been for Stead. It would be unlikely that he will be allowed to go with Connor on England duty and Walters out injured. We only have Priskin and Counago left. If only we had not let Jordan Rhodes go ....................

Bluetoba, I also "have to pinch myself" when I realise we have Keane as a manager. Unfortunately for me, this involves waking up from a nightmare in the middle of the night.

OK. For those people who still think that Roy Keane is a good manager (and before you say it, I've been following Ipswich for the last 20 odd years so don't tell me I'm not a proper supporter), we will address it commercially. Ipswich are not a rich team. We were lucky that someone put a bit of money into the club, and the result... Keane's signings. Leadbitter is a very good player. Edwards - maybe, neither young nor overly talented but does a job. And then... Priskin, Delaney, Martin. Oh and Healy and Brown. We haven't got money to waste and yet there they are warming their bums on the bench. Loyalty is one thing, following blindly is another. And just to pre-empt again, Redknapp done it with Tottenham
