Reading Linked With Rhodes
Reading Linked With Rhodes
Monday, 16th Nov 2009 08:52

Championship Reading are interested in signing former Town striker Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield, according to a tabloid report this morning. Rhodes has scored 13 goals since joining the Terriers in the summer.

The report claims the Royals will offer £600,000 for Rhodes, which it wrongly claims is double the fee Huddersfield paid the Blues for the 19-year-old.

The Yorkshire club actually paid an initial £850,000 for Rhodes with various top-ups based on appearances and a sell-on also involved in the deal.

This whole issue of 'Selling off the family silver' makes me soooooooooooooo mad!!
Keane must go and Wickham must stay, the damage done to our club by Keane and Clegg will take years to put right, only hope we can stay in the Championship while that happens.
Good Luck to Jordan Rhodes, he's having a great time and it was nice to see Bowditch score on his first game back since injury at Yeovil......these 'give aways will come back to haunt us!!!!!

Wouldnt surprise me if he's in championship next season. Probably scoring hat tricks against us. Should have been given the chance.

Mr Ipswich and friends if Rhodes had scored half the goals in the Championdhip that he's scored in Div One he still be our top goalscorer. from what I've seen this season there's little to choose between the top of Div 1 and the bottom of the Championship interms of quality.
Keane never gave Rhodes a chance, how come so many teams are interested in him now, or is Keane such an expert he knows better than eveyone else???

Wake up and smell the coffee Keane fans, your time is running out and your now in the minority on this site!!

Can't hack it at Championship level? Am I the only one who can remember him scoring in the championship as a 16 year old at town.

You all know he has the ability. I agree can't complain too much until he does this. But I don't think we'll have to wait much longer. It may not be January but we all know Rhodes has got a bright future ahead of him, whether it be with Huddersfield or a higher side.

Now if Wickham goes, especially before we can sign him as a pro, then it just shows how much the new regime at Ipswich cares about youth development. Not a lot.

Lets hope this doesn't happen. Or it could be the beginning of some hard times here.

still rather have Rhodes, an out and out goalscorer, over wickham, but I think wickham is great to but goals win games,

In the same way Rhodes has not proved himself at Championship level Keane has not proved himself at Ipswich but we are repeatedly told by pro keaners to give him time and our run of wins will start soon and we will move up the table . If we are allowed to speculate the future with Keane and how well he will do surely we can do the same about players ? - Rhodes will be a great finisher at any level it is natural talent

"The Yorkshire club actually paid an initial £850,000 for Rhodes with various top-ups based on appearances and a sell-on also involved in the deal."

Do we know that for a fact? I thought at the time it was reported to be £250K rising to £850K if all the top-ups come in? In reality we are probably guessing as it is undisclosed.

I wouldn't have thought Huddersfield would sell him for under £1M+

Just because we're talking about this doesn't make us less of a town fan than anyone else.

My point was I find it a concern that some of our brightest young players are either being sold or look likely to be sold in the very near future.

Not saying I'm not behind Keane etc, just feel that we can't ignore facts right infront of us.

Rhodes to Reading adds another dimension to the worst case scenario for Town - QPR promoted, Norwich promoted, Reading saved from relegation on last day of season at the expense of Town thanks to goals from Rhodes - and then the following season the 2 tiered Premiership comes into force and Town are shut in League 1 until we go bankrupt!
