Keane Frustrated
Keane Frustrated
Saturday, 5th Dec 2009 22:20

Boss Roy Keane was hugely frustrated at Town’s failure to take their chances as their trip to Bristol City ended in a 0-0 draw. Pablo Couñago missed the most clear-cut opportunity late on after Grant Leadbitter had hit the post.

Keane said: "I'm hugely frustrated because we had a lot of good chances to win the game and that was the best.

"Pablo should have scored and with that chance coming so late on, it would have put us in a great position, but we should have been ahead at the break anyway, possibly by two goals.

"We are making progress as a team and there were a lot of positives in the performance, but we can't afford to let opponents off the hook.

"I'm happy with a lot of things, but the position we are in requires wins and we should have done better than a point today.

"Now we have a big week coming up with two games and it is essential we take our opportunities against Peterborough on Tuesday night."

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson was pleased to have got the draw with his side below par: "We're disappointed and it's a point gained with how the game went. Dean Gerken had to make some good one-on-one saves and we won't be gloating about a clean sheet.

"We got in on a couple of occasions when Danny Haynes hit the post twice but we didn't really get our game going.

"Ipswich are a difficult side to play against, hence why they've drawn so many away from home.

"We can't be ecstatic about our performance and on the day certain players didn't play that well today. There's also a certain work-rate which I expect from my players and some didn't quite reach that."

After Sheff Wed result just two weeks ago it was looking a tad gloomy to say the least but now 4 points out of 6 away from home against Cardiff and Bristol City has got to be a positive thing has'nt it, especially with 2 home games coming up next of which you'd hope for 4-6 points from.
Still room for improvement but the season finally seems to be starting for us and the team and the majority us lot the fans don't seem to be as nervous before games and actually go in to them thinking 3 points is a posibility!
Delighted! COYB!

CGS whats happened to you? you're such a positive guy nowadays.
Agree with Keane, frustrating not to win a game where we had so many chances but at least we didn't lose as Haynes managed to hit the post.
Lost count of the amount of games we''re unbeaten now, would be nice to have seen a couple of them turned into wins but at least we're difficult to break down now.

Matt the blue - spot on!

I went to the match yesterday and was talking to some city fans. They asked me what I was hoping to get from the match? I told them that leading up to the two away games at Cardiff and City I was praying for 2 points. To already have three was one more than I expected, so win draw or lose I was up on the deal!

To get another point (4 in two tough away games) and keep a clean sheet with an untried keeper between the posts was a fantastic achievement. So come lets be positive things are looking up, and the superb support we gave the lads yesterday needs to be carried forward into the home games coming up.

Arran did OK, didn't even bother to try to save Haynes' shots as he new they were going to hit the post anyway. His two shots plus another good effort that Arran did well to save under awkward weather conditions was all we allowed City to have. This is a testament to the two central defenders who were immense. I have criticised both McCauley and Delaney in the past but their performance deserve and apology from me for that. They won everyting in the air and really battled to block everything coming their way. 10 out of 10 for both of them

Rosenior had a torrid time against there huge forward/winger (whoever he was) and had the better of it when he went off. David Wright played well until they brought on a really fast midfielder (didn't know who he was either), and was caught for pace once or twice.

Leadbitter was he normal busy and effective self in midfield and was ably assisted by Quinn who I thought was unlucky to get subbed. Garvan looked up for it, did a lot of running did not shy from putting tackles in and getting his head into the thick of it. He had a good game and deserves to keep his place.

Jon Walters seemed to be having an off day. Somthing was upsetting him and he lost it enough to get booked for thumping the ball away. Frustration that his efforts were going unrewarded perhaps

Stead looked good up front and with a bit better finishing and a bit of luck could have had 4 goals. I must say that from my first sighting of Stern John, he didn't offer much and just didn't really get into the game. Early days and he needs to strike up a pertnership with somebody. Stead did enough to earn a start Tuesday.

Counago's link up play was as good as normal but Oh that miss! I can't see RK forgiving that and he will be back on the bench.

I'm not too bothered that we can't score a goal. I'm just glad to see that we are finally making some progress. First we plugged up the defence. Next we have got the midfield working like a machine (and thats the one thing that i thought Keano would have sorted first, if he can't sort out the mid then what can he sort out) which is reassuring. Next up the goals will come. Its just part of the natural progression.

Taken a bit longer than i thought but finally seeing this team come together. I'd rather Keano hadn't taken us twelve steps backwards before taking us two forward, but hoping and praying that we'll be better off for it in the long run. Keane has had a very patient set of supporters so now he needs to reward us.

Come on tuesday! For once this season i feel that we are favourites. Good times ahead.

Good result, but after his miss can fully understand why RK doesn't play Pablo. Sadly, he is no longer good enough (and I am a big fan of his). One goal only this season, and several failed attempts. We still need a striker!

UEFA81 - You DO need to go to games if you want to call yourself a proper Town fan, I know plenty of people who live away from here that make the time to come down here for home games or go to away games near where they are. Also why does it take people calling you a goon or a budgie before you actually put forward some sort of constructive argument? Maybe if you did that with your original post instead of some sarcastic post MAYBE people might actually start to have some respect for you.

Second point, will people STOP GOING ON ABOUT SELLING JORDAN RHODES!!! I don't agree with it any more than you do, but we're just debating the topic to death for no reason because here's something...HE'S ALREADY BEEN SOLD! Move on ffs...

Agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion, BUT some of the comments on here are so negative and shown a lack of understanding. Howe can people be so negative with 8 games unbeaten? Roy has had to tear apart a team that failed to deliver under Jim and is building a new one. Yes, we are in the bottom three, but if you go to games, you can see a vast improvement from 2 months ago.

Being so negative does not help the team. Constructive criticism is good - particularly after say the Newcastle result, but goodness living in the past and talking about Jim (who delivered nothing) and Jordan Rhodes (untried at this level) is to a certain extent pointless.

If, if, if. Why do people keep harking on about Rhodes. There is a chasm of difference between the standard of the Championship and Div 1. Even Gary Roberts looks good at Huddersfield right now and look how good he was for us - useless. In my opinion Rhodes has found his level and will struggle in our division. I'd try Wicham and John up front on Tuesday as Stead cannot win headers and Pablo has had more than enough chances now - a shame because I like him but the got has a massive attitude problem. Tuesday is a massive game for us and a match we must win. Just hope supporters turn up and treat this like a cup final. if we lose we are back where we started - in real trouble.

Bergholt, i thought Wright and Rosenior looked comfortable with those two City boys you were taking about. The left midfielder didn't have a left foot and kept checking inside. Not once did he get in behind Rosenior to whip a ball in. Played a decent ball through for Haynes, but nowt Rosenior can do about that if he's drifting into the middle of the park.

I think the lad who came on to the right of midfield had a lot of purpose but again never had any penetration and just ran across the front of the back 4 without any end product, always marshalled by Wright.

As i said previously, the back 4 are playing well at the moment. No doubt in my mind we'll pick up 6 points in our next two games.

Uefa1981 :"draws count for nothing ".

Ipswich 1991-92 season, Oxford Utd away. Need I say more. Had we not have got 1 meaningless point at theirs, we may not have won the league.

But no your right I'm sure the close to 15-20 points some teams gain in a season for picking up draws never really counts for much.

everyone seems to think a win on tuesday is a given your a optimistic bunch, still nothings a sure thing. i might get some good odds on boro the way keanos got town playin this year theres every chance we;ll lose keanos a nutter sack him quick before its too late

bjc - It's not just optimism, it's the fact that we're 8 games unbeaten and Peterborough are playing worse than we are - hence why they're now occupying the bottom spot and we're not.

Why does everyone keep harking on about Rhodes, he has moved on not only that but he is in a lower league, look at when we picked Parkin from a lower league wasn't exactly prolific was he!
I agree with most comment on here, we are starting to gel nicely and realisticly we are only 12 points from 6th place, a couple of good home wins and a continued ubeaten run will see us rise very quickly.

So lets get behind the boys and look forward COYB

BJC's clearly another fan who doesn't attend games. We're looking solid in all areas except up front at the moment. One piece of the jigsaw left to solve before we start flying up the league.

Boro, beat us Tuesday? Bet you'll get very long odds on that seeing as they haven't had an away win this season!

dubblue added 10:26 - Dec 7
Well we should be out of the bottom three if we get 6 points from our next two matches - Tuesday's should on paper be straight forward, but our failure to take chances could be costly.

Haven't read all the above comments, but has anyone else who doesn't, or no longer attends games, noticed that we can in no way take 3 points for granted against Peterborough? Our home form seems so unreliable. Great to get 4 points from 2 away games, that's fantastic and well played, well fought. It's pure speculation from me, but home games have been the 'Achilles heel' regardless of the opposition, especially considering the comments I read after the Watford draw. Every single game will be a battle from now on, our opponents are always 'up for it', no-one gives you the three points on a plate, and you have to 'win ugly' when you are near the bottom of the league table. I live near Peterborough, so pick up the vibes from the local press. The new Peterborough manager is the ex-Kettering manager, who has brought in a big tall Kettering central defender to try to stop them leaking goals - although I don't know if that player is starting games for them now. Their defence will not be watertight, but they do have class midfielders and strikers who might take their 'one opportunity'. So it will be a battle to get the three points. Peterborough also have passionate away support, as I don't think they've been at this level in the league before, a bit like Hull City in the Premier League last season.

Can't argue with clean sheets, unbeaten run & not many win at Bristol. Looking so much more solid now we've got the proper first team playing. Surely we've got to roll Boro over & then we're really starting to climb.
