Stead Red Card Upheld and Ban Increased
Stead Red Card Upheld and Ban Increased
Wednesday, 30th Dec 2009 14:51

Town striker Jon Stead has been handed a four-game ban after his appeal against his red card at Crystal Palace was not only dismissed by the FA’s Independent Regulatory Commission but viewed to have had “no prospect of success”, adding an extra match to his three-match suspension.

Stead, who was sent off for a tackle on Freddie Sears, will now miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Blackpool, if it goes ahead, the away game at Leicester the following Sunday, the Coventry home match and probably the previously postponed Scunthorpe away game, which is likely to played during that period, or alternatively a fourth round FA Cup tie or the home game with West Brom.

Ridiculous. Who do I contact to complain about this? I want to give them a piece of my mind.

I think the FA Appeals Commitee should be given a 6 month ban for bringing the game into disrepute and for being "frivilous"

This was always going to happen. What was the point in appealing???

I don't know why we bother appealing - it's rare for the FA to undermine the ref's

Never have liked Paul Taylor - he is one of those ref's that likes the sound of his own voice and is filled with his own self importance.

That is absolutely ridiculous! Are they blind? That tackle was clearly a yellow card at the most!

I'm genuinely shocked at that. Having seen it on replays it was a foul, and probably a booking as well. No way a red. And to increase the ban as well??? "No prospect of success" of appealing a card which even the Palace players and manager said shouldn't have been? And we all know what Warnock is generally like, if he speaks out in support of someone who's been sent off against his team then you know there's something wrong. Idiots.
Typical... finally a striker looks like coming into form and we lose him for a month.

Was always going to happen : the committee no doubt viewed the appeal as a cynical ploy to allow him to play on Monday. Scoring 2 goals would have worked against him in this instance. Clubs, including us, need to accept that appeals will always fail if it can be seen that a foul (even if most people would consider it a minor one) has been committed : the only chance of success is where the referee actually sees a foul which isn't there. Shame the numb-nuts who run our club didn't take this on board beforehand.

Absolute joke! I really thought this one would be rescinded. 4 game ban for a tackle that barely waranted a yellow card. What is the game coming to. It will be interesting to see if similar incidents are treated consistently.

What are the appeals board there for?
Terrible decision....

If we were Chelsea or another Premier League Big boy with a little bit of weight, the outcome would have been much much different.

What a Joke! If the Appeals Board haven't got the right to say that the referee got it wrong, then what is the point! The referee should be the one who is suspended, yet he will do the same thing on Saturday and cost someone a run in the FA Cup! We are so gonna miss Stead, although I didn't think I would ever say that!

Stead Out, Lisbie Back - What am I thinking !

This is totally unbelievable and I am in extreme shock

To levy a 3 game ban and add another 1 game to the player for daring to appeal just goes to show what a total joke the FA appeals panel is

Maybe a Facebook campaign is needed

DISGRACE FA

Having watched the incident on TV a number of times i just cannot see why it wasnt recinded as it was 1 footed but not dangerous. Can only think that the F.A are turning appeals down purely to not make the referee look stupid. It seems to me to be a ridiculous decision but hopefully it wont cost ITFC too much results wise

Typical FA. A commitee of pencil pushers who have never played the game in their lives. They obviously didn't like the fact Stead played on Monday due appeal and decided to exact revenge. Everyone who knows anything about football realises it was never more than a yellow

What a joke, the fact they have increased it as well!!!! Who sit's on the board? Paul Lambert? Delia? Or is it because Keane is our Manager?

Although this appears to be bad news,it is these types of injustices that bring togetherness and that seige mentality in teams. The best way forward is to take our frustrations out on the opposition I'm sure Keano will use this to his advantage in the same way Murinio and Sir Alex would.

Very worrying - if we can't renew Stern John's loan, we need Priskin to find some form in a hurry or we'll be relying on a 16 year old to lead the line for 3 tough away games...

DoobDude added 15:33 - Dec 30
The correct decision, we only appealed so he could play Monday and then after Steady scores twice it was inevitable. Never mind we still have Tamas who was just coming into form before he was dropped.

BlueBoots added 15:35 - Dec 30
Oh...and a 4 match game when I've seen players get away with less for headbutting / giving a smack in the mouth to an opponent is a disgrace

SomershamBlue added 15:39 - Dec 30
DoobDube - the correct decision - really?

If the FA rules permit a player to play whilst appealing a decision, that should have no bearing on the outcome.

u can complain of the fa website i did so when liam trotter was sent of against portsmouth...and they do reply

DoobDude - Which Priskin is that then? The one I saw for us was incredibly lazy and not on form when he was dropped!

BlueBoots - I spotted Stewart from QPR give Leadbitter a cuff in the face on Monday, right near the ref and he did sweet FA. It seems as long as you bring your own whistle knowledge of the rules are optional when refs are employed.
