Trotter Hoping Loan Will Get Him Back in Town Team
Trotter Hoping Loan Will Get Him Back in Town Team
Thursday, 7th Jan 2010 11:38

Midfielder Liam Trotter says he hopes he can win back his place in the Town side if he impresses during his loan spell at Millwall. The 21-year-old has joined the Lions on a month’s loan.

Trotter said: "It's about getting the games to impress anyone and everyone. I'm coming here for a month, hopefully doing well and, if I do, perhaps Ipswich will recall me and I'll go into their team.

"But equally, if I do well, Millwall might want to keep me longer. For the moment, it's a case of doing the one month and trying to do well to make sure everyone's happy.

"If after a month Ipswich are still doing well then they might not want me back and hopefully I can stay here. As long as I'm playing and doing well I see no reason why I couldn't."

Trotter was previously on loan at the Den in 2006 when he made just one start and two sub appearances. The Ipswich-born midfielder hopes for greater involvement in his second spell: "I very much hope it'll be different this time around.

"Last time I came I was only 18 and made just three appearances but I must've been on the bench seven or eight times and just didn't come on.

"It was still a good experience for me to be involved with the first team, even if it was just on the bench.

"Whatever happened here in the past wasn't much of an issue. This time I'm here to play and that's the most important thing."

Wishful thinking Liam. He must be dilluded if he thinks he can get in ahead of Garvan, Leadbitter & Norris. Better off playing at a lower level

Not for me sorry...no coincidence that we've picked up greatly since he's been dropped and Garvan re-introduced...not good enough at this level Liam, far too slow on the ball..League 1 is your level i'm afraid.

...to be fair only one cnt mid at town is good enough for prem and that's leadbitter!

As for Trotter....playing with 20,000 ppl on your back is tough.....confidence is key for a player and i dont think we have seen anywhere near his best.

he has 20,000 people on his back because he simply isn't good enough yet was still given a chance time after time ahead of Garvan.. Now RK has seen sense, results have picked up. Obviously not Trotters fault but he isn't good enough at this level

I'm getting pretty sick of Liam Trotter being made the scapegoat for our poor early season form - anyone with eyes in their head could see it was down to conceding stupid goals.

So many of our defenders were making individual errors, or for whatever reason just having absolute shockers in various games (McAuley against Boro, Bruce against Newcastle leap to mind...), I find it appalling that some so-called fans seem happy to lay all the blame on one young player who's willing to work hard at his game to play for our club.

Rant over :^D

Candyshop i am a Leadbitter fan and think he has brought a great deal to the club but IMO he is not a premiership standard player yet which is why he was released by a premier team and no one else came in for him. He has hardly set the championship on fire compared to other midfielders in this league and was taken apart by the Newcastle midfield who do look like premiership players . He has scored one more goal than Garvan and has one more assist in nearly three times as many games .I was expecting more for 3.5 million, hopefully this will come
As forTrotter he started 11 times for us this season and i dont recall 20,000 people constently booing him ,he just wasnt up to it at that time which hopefully will change and should have been replaced in the team a lot earlier

Trotter is an excellent young player, with all the attributes to be a top-class footballer. He has height, movement, vision, tackling and can score goals. Like most football players (and performers in general) he is suffering from a lack of confidence, and playing within a team that was leaking goals like it was going out of fashion. Now our defence is sorted, I'd love to see him playing again, perhaps on the left-side, with Garvan and Leadbitter in the middle.

Garvan's early season was quite awful - I remember seeing him at the Shrewbury game, and he didn't even look like a Div 2 player there. But look at how confidence and an corresponding up-turn in performance can change people's views.

Norris is a great player, but I wouldn't have him playing next to Leadbitter unless we're 5 across the middle away from home. They're too similar, and our midfield will lack guile and height. It's all about balance, not just sticking your best players on the pitch.

surco72 the comment you made "He has hardly set the championship on fire compared to other midfielders in this league and was taken apart by the Newcastle midfield who do look like premiership players" .

Well i been impressed with him every game and you got to spend sometimes overboard to get what you want and i see you have be impressed to with what else you said in the post and i agree the price beening a bit much. But in the newcastle game he did not peform well but tell me who did no one springs mind in that game and i do think he could peform well in a premiership team imo around the mid table area.

Blueboots, totally agree that its worrying to see so many fans jump on the back of Trotter and single-handedly blame him for our poor start to the season.

"No coincidence that weve picked up greatly since hes been dropped and Garvan re-introduced"..... being one such example.

What about this? We have only lost once since we lost at Barnsley. And Richard Wright hasnt played for us since we lost at Barnsley. So, maybe its his fault. Or maybe our form has improved since Delaney has played at centre back, which has also helped McAuley. Or maybe our form has improved since Lee Martin has stopped being picked. Or maybe our form has improved since David Wright returned to the team. Or perhaps since Stead has been given a run in the team.

So, to make it as black and white as Trotter v. Garvan is absolutely ridiculous. Garvan has only played in the last handful of games anyway. But its an indication of the favouritism that Garvan is awarded, in contrast to the criticism that Trotter is awarded. Neither is justified.

I disagree that people were making Trotter a scapegoat - people were simply stating an honest opinion. Mine is the same as around 20,000 others - Trotter is not good enough. Too slow, can't pass, looks like he'll get sent off and out of his depth at this level. That's no disrespect to him and I certainly don't blame him for our poor start - he gave 110% and tried his best. But sadly the fact is he's not good enough and I suspect unlikely to play for us again.

Nunny don't struggle......

Norseblue....thankyou for being someone with a REAL football head!......i was not defending or saying that Trotters form this season has been good, i was pointing out that he does have the POTENTIAL qualities to be an excellent player. All the simple people who don't have a good football background jump on his and other players backs without considering the factors.......confidence, being in a losing struggling side, having supporters on his back....and before anyone says thats not true i remember the moans when his name was read out or he had the ball during the game....
Oh and Surco72.....swap Kevin Nolan with Leadbitter that day and he would have struggled exactly the same!!.....if your in a struggling team your up against it fella! Leadbitter is a fantastic player (our best by far) and he reminds me of a poor mans Paul Scholes at the mo....with potential to be big player if we reach the prem in next couple of years.

He needs to do more than impress at Millwall, he needs to show some effort, pace fight and commitment. Early season he was off the pace, sluggish, lazy-looking, didn't get forward, couldn't tackle. It was embarrassing watching him at times.

Olimar .. since Garvans return 8 games 4 wins ,3 draws and 1 defeat with a man sent off , scoring more than once on 4 occasions before that 1 win in 13 games and scoring more than one twice all season ,he has scored one and set up 4 goals that is why praise is justified .
The defence has looked decidely improved since Wright has been back in defence and people stopped slating Mac ,whoever has been in goal .
And upfront Stead looks like the scorer he is because we are not just hoofing the ball upfront to his head like we did at the start of the season and agree since we dropped Priskin,Martin ,Healy ,Quinn and Trotter

Liam Trotter is an enigma. But if you want a direct comparison to his game look at Tom Huddlestone. Admittedly Huddlestone is better, but he has taken time to get his game going at Spurs. Everyone develops at different rates, Liam I am sure will come good. It may take a couple of years, and possibly a positional change..centre back? But I hope its with us.

Dalty added 15:22 - Jan 7
Great comparison FriskinPriskin1, though as you say Trotter may not be in his class there are several similarities with Huddlestone in attributes (passing) and weaknesses (pace). I'd hold onto him for a bit, he's a good quality fourth choice centre-mid for now who may blossom into something better in the next couple of years, a loan move will be good for him at the moment.

candyshop: dude, the player is fundamentally flawed. I've not seen the potential you talk about. I felt it from the very first game I saw, and he ossifies my opinion every time he plays.

Well, well out of his depth. But, take comfort: if you're right, in the future you can boast.

Finally, not directed to Candyshop: Confidence in sport is so, so much. It is more than an edge, it is requisite, and separates men from boys, and professionals from amateurs. If you do not have it, you will never succeed. In fact; it goes for most things in life. :-)

Agree with FriskinPriskin about the Huddlestone/Trotter comparison, have thought they were similar for some time.
Hopefully the Loan will make him a better player, hasn't been anywhere near up to our standards but wish him luck with whatever happens after his loan; be it extended or given a chance here.

I know it was reserves, but Trotter scored in the penalty area and he started with the ball from his own (he didn't take it with him the whole way of course!) but that proves he can go forward!
Huddlestone is a good shout, he's only made it in recent years, and it's taken time. Trotter if keeps his head down will turn into a good player, I hope so, not only for him but to prove you all wrong :P
