Keane Doesn't Rule Out Move for Celtic Defender
Keane Doesn't Rule Out Move for Celtic Defender

Boss Roy Keane has refused to completely rule out a move for Celtic left-back Lee Naylor. The 29-year-old was mentioned in connection with the Blues earlier in the week.

Although dismissing claims of an imminent move, Keane hints that Naylor could potentially come into his plans before the January transfer window closes. Asked whether reports of Naylor’s immediate signing were correct, Keane said: “Not at the moment, no.

“Lee played [for Celtic] last week. I always look at the Celtic team anyway and obviously I would have looked last week particularly because Colin Healy was playing [for Falkirk against Celtic]. There’s nothing in that. But that’s today, next week might be different.”

The Blues boss says there is nothing new to report on the transfer front: ”I’d like to add one or two but I have no news on that.

“We’re hopeful, but our mentality at the moment is that that we won’t be getting anybody in because I don’t want to get too disappointed or give any of our supporters false hope. Something might happen next week, but we’ll wait and see.”

Keane says Southampton interest in Kevin Lisbie, who is currently on loan at Colchester, is news to him but wouldn’t shock him: “Not that I’m aware of but it wouldn’t surprise me if there are clubs speaking to him or his agent, but something will happen with that next week.

“Clubs are aware that he’s at Colchester and that he’s on loan. We have the option to call him back or if a club comes in with the right offer we’ll look at that. We’ll wait and see. I’ve not really thought about it too much, to be honest.”

With Colchester admitting they would be unable to afford a fee to sign Lisbie permanently, the former Charlton man says he would consider a switch to St Mary’s: “Very much so. If they are interested I am only on loan at Colchester, so obviously anything is possible."

“I have not asked to go anywhere. But if you ask any player they would love to be settled at a club that has signed them and to be settled somewhere would be good for me."

The Town manager is still struggling through the red tape which has delayed the signing of American trialist Devann Yao. The 19-year-old winger has played youth football with Metz, Livorno, Pisa and St Mirren and Town are working through issues relating to compensation due to some of those clubs.

Keane says he hopes the deal will be sorted soon: “There’s still no news on that. You should come in my office and see the paperwork. There’s lots of stuff because he’s been involved with lots of clubs.

“He’s back training after the bad injury he got in the reserves game against Luton [a cut to the leg]. That was a nasty injury he got but that’s settling down and he’s back on the training pitch doing some recovery. Hopefully there’ll be news this week.”

Though not a keane fan I am at least relieved to see that he has learned the lesson on transfer speculation. Much better to say nothing and then pop up with a signing than sign posting everything before hand so that prices go up and fans get upset when they don't come off. Perhaps our leader is starting to learn how to be a better manager!

shut up moyardmadman, Keano is the man to take this club forward!

I really hope we sign Naylor, quality LB.

Is Keane suggesting he travelled up to Scotland just to watch Colin Healy in action?! :-D

It makes sense not to build up transfer hopes and I prefer cautious comments rather than the "We have to have at least 2 players in by the next match" that we got earlier in the season, only for no one to join.

Naylor would be a good signing I think, and it would be great if Lisbie went to Southampton to get his wages off the books. Let's hope for a surprise striker signing though!

I seriously think we should enquire about Jack Wilshere

1. We can gaurantee him games that he might not get at a fellow Prem club couldnt
2. We are literally an hour down the road from London, which means he will be closer to his family opposed to Bolton or Burnley, he is only 17 after all
3. As we are so close he could even still train with Arsenal a couple of days a week
4. Half a season at Championship level will toughen him for a season in the prem next term

The only stumbling block might be Keano's relationship with Wenger!!!

People are giving Keane far too much criticism regarding transfers. People need to look at how few transfers are actually taking place at present across the country. The simple reason is a lack of money in the game.

The fact that we have had such a poor season so far, is also going to be a big stumbling block for Premiership quality players.

I would defiantly like to see us sign Kevin Philips, and a forward with some pace. I think Lee Naylor would be a useful addition as well, he is an accomplished defender, who will be very tidy in the Championship.

Great to see the youth side win, gives some hope that we can still churn out great youngsters.

moyardmadman, what are you on about!? I'm sorry but Keane has proven that he is a quality manager, yes he took a while to get the team going but that's natural sometimes! We are improving all the time.
Rosenoir even commented saying Keane was the best manager he has had in his career!

I may have read it wrong but did moyardmadman mean I wish Keane would move it, would be good for the club, meaning hurry up and sign hiom (naylor) as it would be good for the club?

If you did actually mean for Keane to move, well, you simply are a tool.

brockley - I think what can'ttypedidn'tgotoschoolmoyardmadman means is "I wish Keane would move it (as in get a move on), it (Naylor transfer) would be good for the club."

If he means RK move (somewhere else) - it would be good for the club.....etc then yes you're right, definilty a tool.

Naylor WAS a good player and someone who Burley would have liked to have signed for Town, but I fear if he is not good enough for Celtic in that pathetic league then perhaps he is not what we need now.
