Healy Deal Complete
Healy Deal Complete
Monday, 1st Feb 2010 16:58

Town have confirmed that Sunderland striker David Healy has completed his loan move to the Blues until the end of the season. Healy, consistently linked with Town during Jim Magilton's time as manager and again throughout the summer, joins his Black Cats team-mate Daryl Murphy at Portman Road.

Killyleagh-born Healy started his career with Manchester United, during which time he spent spells on loan at Port Vale and Preston, eventually signing on full-time with the Lilywhites in 2001.

After a loan spell at Norwich, Healy moved on to Leeds and then Fulham, before then-Sunderland boss Roy Keane paid the Cottagers £1.2 million for his services in August 2008.

The frontman, who has never replicated his Northern Ireland form of 35 goals in 78 games at club level, has made only three starts - none in the league - and 18 sub appearances since joining the Black Cats, scoring just three goals.

The 30-year-old, awarded an MBE for services to football in 2008, is contracted to Sunderland until the summer of 2011.

For all you 'fans' moaning, how many past Ipswich players have a hat trick against Spain to their name?

If message boards were around when Sir Bobby made his signings I wonder what the comments would have been....

Giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, perhaps these boards are an outlet for this season's frustrations? But to judge before these two have even pulled on the Blue and White is somewhat short sighted.

Chopra - would he WANT to sign for us?
Priskin - QPR loan is a master stroke, he can use them to recapture his confidence, return to us a "proven" goal-scorer and if not, well we can just off load him without the risk.
Sunderland reserves - do you think it is easy to sign first team Premiership players (or Championship for that matter)?

Personally, I think that Keane, et al, have done very well to land these two and only time will tell. End of the season, truth will out.

To the naysayers - if you are so certain you are right, please can you supply this weeks lottery numbers to me?

cheerios

Strange case Healey - done well for his country in the past but never held down a first team place wherever he's played - even at leeds.Hope theres not something wrong with his attitude etc.
And oh yes - a master stroke sending Priskin out on loan after paying out all that money for him

Two good signings today, I think they'll really push the team on and we'll get goals now. they're both the kind of players in my opinion who are probably too good for the championship but not quite good enough for the Prem, and probably why Healy hasn't ever replicated his international form at club level as he's slightly out of his depth. think he should manage 8-10 goals at least!

Now before you negative posters all come back at me with it will never happen, i say this with tongue in cheek, but i think my point is valid....

If both started against 'Boro and got a hat-trick each....
There would still be you miserable b*stards who would
1) harp on about how much you miss Jordan Rhodes
2) go on about how Alan Curbishley would have signed them both months ago
3) complain that 3 goals each is not such a good return in Just 1 match
4) rant about how its about time a Keane signing "made good"
5) rue the fact that we could have signed ex-Ipswich players who are quite frankly past their sell-by date
6) blame Keane for not signing Gio
7) whinge about our new super signings being 1 match wonders
8) complain that even though they score 3 each, they were after all only S'land subs, so they must be defective.
9) 2010 team is nowhere as good as '62,'81 etc and because of this you feel you need to go on about it ad infinitum
10) harp on about missing Jordan Rhodes.... Again, again and again!

C'mon, they have not even pulled a blue/white shirt on yet, shall we try and give them a chance before we slag them off?
You never know they might get those 3 goals each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its incredible isn't it? They haven't even put on a blue shirt, let alone play and one half is having orgasms and the other half think its the end of the world.

For heavens sake, lets see them play a couple of games first before going overboard.

Just Denis Healey to go then : or maybe Tim. Both would be a better bet than the crap we are bringing in.

ITGIRL, top, top quality post: you are spot on.
Paul Mariner - not proven at the top level.
Alan Hunter - just another Irishman.
Muhren/Thijssen - who? Never heard of 'em. And who are Twente Enschede? Never heard of 'em. Why can't he get a proven League One midfielder?
etc. etc. etc.

Are you all fans of ITFC on this site 'cos that's what I thought it was for? I am certainly not overwhelmed by what has transpired today but for god's sake - some of you are already willing Healy and Murphy to fail (mainly because you want to see Keane fail it seems!) Come on, give these two lads a chance. I don't give a toss what they have done elsewhere, I just want them to do a good job for Ipswich, ensure as high a league position as possible (21st at least!) and move on from there. Whilst I can see the point made by some who think allowing Priskin to go to QPR could see the boy regain his confidence, I still think he would have come good with a run in the team. All those who say he has had his chances (10 starts and 9 as sub) don't seem to acknowledge that his appearances - especially starts - have been two or three in a row here and there - not good for a striker's confidence. RK's error was not to give him more starting berths during in Golden Boy Stead's absence ('cos his scoring record is absolutely stunning isn't it!!!) Anyway, onwards and upwards. Get behind the team as the success of Healy, Murphy and RK means the improving position of our beloved football club. Finally, good luck to Alex Bruce, he appears to have been forgotten in all of this.

ITGIRL - In the good ol' Sir Bobby days etc........ Sir Bob never made a bad signing as far as I can remember.

I am, so far, underwhelmed with RK's transfer business. Some of us on 'ere appear negative moaners BECAUSE we love the club so much and are, frankly, worried about what's going on at the mo'.

Injured Animal - lets seriously hope they do get a hatrick each on saturday.
Personally, im not overly enamoured by the 2 of them, but feel they could do a job in a Championship team, especially a mediocre one like we have become.

Of more of a worry is how Keane is going to manage them - will he rotate them in and out of the team? Will he actually play them in their preferred positions? Will he have other players around them out of position? Will he change formation to hand the initiative to the oppostion when its not needed? These things are more of a concern, and all have been happening regularly with Keane at the helm.

But both players have potential.
