Healy Deal Complete
Healy Deal Complete
Monday, 1st Feb 2010 16:58

Town have confirmed that Sunderland striker David Healy has completed his loan move to the Blues until the end of the season. Healy, consistently linked with Town during Jim Magilton's time as manager and again throughout the summer, joins his Black Cats team-mate Daryl Murphy at Portman Road.

Killyleagh-born Healy started his career with Manchester United, during which time he spent spells on loan at Port Vale and Preston, eventually signing on full-time with the Lilywhites in 2001.

After a loan spell at Norwich, Healy moved on to Leeds and then Fulham, before then-Sunderland boss Roy Keane paid the Cottagers £1.2 million for his services in August 2008.

The frontman, who has never replicated his Northern Ireland form of 35 goals in 78 games at club level, has made only three starts - none in the league - and 18 sub appearances since joining the Black Cats, scoring just three goals.

The 30-year-old, awarded an MBE for services to football in 2008, is contracted to Sunderland until the summer of 2011.

Unsure on keepers, but pretty much agreed AFCC. Garvan, Edwards and Peters all seeing action from the bench involving reshuffles with Walters, Murphy and Stead.

i was also concerned about defensive cover but i imagine there are some recall options in there for bruce and or smith. i would however not have kept priskin instead of daryl murphy as murphy can play left midfied and i imagine thats where he will play

AFCC & Keanish...agreed. That team will have Balance and the bench covers a multitude of positions..Colback deserves a place somewhere too on the bench, maybe swap for Pim, although cover at CB is now a bit thin.
I hope Roy plays 4-4-2 from now on.

Lee Barrett has earned his place for now. Still need a left full. Peters probably not up to it defensively, but his pace would work well offensively with Murphy.Wright is good cover for right full. Any chance of a return for Thatcher. Edwards deserves a few games while Walters is out.Other than that agree with team above.

barrett has been ok but but is very suspect sometimes im hoping brian murphy does a gd job when hes fit again he will be in and unless he makes a complete hash up will stay in i expect wright will leave in the summer and another keeper will be signed of some shape or form unles mcloughlin looks worth it as eane has said before he likes 3 senior keepers

you lot really cant see it can you? The manager has no idea how to manage,we play far too deep and invite teams onto us in every game ive seen this season.THIS IS DOWN TO THE MANAGER!!!!! its so clear in my eyes yet you cant see it,its hurtful to watch such negative tactics, these 2 signings will be keanes last stand.....mark my words, look at all the other signings weve had......leadbitter the only one worth anything in my opinion.......hes disliked and we need a new manager.....someone with some history with the club!!!!!!! what has happened to the youth set up,,,,what a disaster this season is.....and it hurts the hell out of me to even say it........bring back burley....now!!!!

This is one Healy I'm not so sure of (or another). His club career has gone quiet and he hasn't scóred for Northern Ireland either in 10 matches. But I hope he still does it. Scores goals in this league. Should be a player type we didn't have and given the right service (through balls to run after) he could do fine.

As much as I am happy with the new signings, I have 2 questions.
1. Why no permanent signings? That's now 4 regular first team players who are loanees. Not quite up to Naarwich levels of last season, but a slight concern.
2. Why can Keane seemingly only attract players who have played for him before?
Despite these minor quibbles, if Healy can replicate his international goalscoring form for us, then I'll be a happy camper.

David Healy moan all you want he knows where the back of the net is, lets hope he proves it.

If you look at David Healy's performance at Championship (Preston, Leeds) level, he's on about 1 goal every three and a half games. That's better than anything we have at the moment.

blue floyd, loan players are a sign of the times, the clubs are finding things harder than they are used to.No big permenant signings anywhere,so in that respect we are not alone, that said,i do share your concerns about the tunnel vision RK seems to have when getting player,s in .It do's worry me that he still thinks members of his old squads ect can do the same job today, living in the past. This must be the last throw of the dice, for the new signings to fail would be a disaster ,its not like we are mid table with room for error.I dont want to see our team relying on results of other teams on last day,but it could be the case . Look Everyone, we are in a relegation dogfight, like it or not. If these guys help out to keep our status in the league then grand, if not send them back at the end of the season. Simples.

Let's not forget this guy is a scummer though. I need not remind you how other Scum signings have panned out but hopefully this is different!

Agreed Dirtydingus - most of the transfers yesterday were loans, regardless of the clubs involved. Any big money signings were restricted to a few Prem clubs generally.

For those that complain about Keano only signing ex-Sunderland players .... isn't Strachan doing the same at Boro? If the manager knows the player and feels they can do a job at his new club, then why not? This is no time for gambles - the manager is right to stick with what he knows and who he knows. A couple of his signings HAVE been a gamble that haven't quite worked out (yet) - Martin and Priskin are 2 examples of that. Murphy and Healy he knows and trusts, so let's back him on that. And hopefully they will gel quickly with Leadbitter and Edwards, having played with them at Sunderland.

Welcome aboard lads - get us some goals please!!

COYB!

Well, we needed strikers and he's bought two in and let Priskin go of to find his shooting (scoring) boots. let's hope these two can find the net

Marshalls_Mullet added 09:06 - Feb 2
Lets get behind them and hope they can do a good job.

My major concern is still the keeper situation, what makes people have faith in Brian Murphy? His CV is cr4p.

I hope for a return from Plug!!

SomershamBlue added 09:15 - Feb 2
I think that it's completely understandable that RK should go for players who he knows - especially in the current situation.

Let's get behind the team and give them our full support. Clearly they are going to need it!

The Loan signings of Daryl Murphy & David Healy are a POSITIVE - we need goals and thats why we've taken them....who cares if they have come from Sunderland or one of them played for Norwich.
