Stead Expects Summer Exit
Stead Expects Summer Exit
Wednesday, 7th Apr 2010 15:51

Striker Jon Stead says he expects he'll leave the Blues in the summer if Roy Keane remains as Town manager. The former England U21 international is currently on loan at Coventry City.

Stead said: "I think everything will depend on whether Ipswich make any changes in the summer and whether the manager is still there for next season.

"If he is, I will be moving I would have thought. I can't see him wanting to keep me if he has allowed me to go out on loan. I will have to gauge that at the end of the season. Once you go into pre-season, decisions will be made."

Stead says he will spend the summer back in Suffolk with his wife set to give birth to their first child: "The baby will be born in Ipswich because we have got a house still there and I don't know what is going to happen next season. We'll live down there over May and June and some of July and see what happens.”

The frontman, who has scored twice in nine starts and one sub appearance for the Sky Blues, joined Town from Sheffield United for £600,000 in the summer of 2008 and has another year left on his Town contract.

Shame to see him go, in my personal opinion he is a good striker, not a great one but he'll chip in with 10-15 a seson and he scored something like 7 in 15 games for us, better than Counago, and Murphy and Healy don't even play for us.

Pablo as an attacking midfielder? I reckon that could work you know

Crock - read it a bit more carefully.

Stead doesn't say he dislikes the Manager, he says he thinks the Manager will ship him out in the summer. Not the same thing at all.

Like Keane or not?? Doesn't matter on this one. Keane simply doesn't rate Stead. Sold him at Sunderland and shipped him out to Coventry. To be honest, never been a fan of Stead only because his goalscoring is not up to the level required. Decent bloke though !!!

I would never criticise Jon Stead for effort and for that reason I will always give him respect for trying his hardest whilst in a Blue shirt. In a way he kinda reminds me of Shefki Kuqi but somehow Shefki endeared himself to fans in a way that Steady hasn't. Both were not particularly gifted with control (and have a poor first touch). Unfortunately for a very tall man Jon's ability in the air also lets him down, plus he is not physical enough. There is a 17 year old at the club who can show him a thing or two about putting central defenders under pressure so sadly I think Jon doesn't give us much if he is not scoring goals. I do though wish him all the best as I think he is a decent person and that he would truly have loved to have settled at Ipswich.

Slight difference, Kuqi played up front with Bent, Stead had Counago/Priskin

im not being funny yea but at what point has he said he does not like Keane? you bunch of old crones.

not good enough so should go would be handy on the bench but is not on a bench players contract and would not want to be a bench player.

on other notes Priskin and martin could still be awsome priskin is slowly starting to look exceptional at QPR he could be handy alongside Murphy next year him and some other new hot shot battling it out to play along side him next year with Wickham as a fourth

Can understand why some people aren't a huge fan of his but personally think he's been good for us. Anyone who criticises his scoring record for us really needs to look at what they expect: 19 goals in 39 starts is very decent at this level in my book. If people want to include sub appearances its still 19 in 63 which is far better than any of the other strikers, with the exception of Murphy who still isn't our player. Have no problem seeing him go as long as Roy brings in strikers of suitable quality, but think he's nowhere near as bad as some on here say. Ok he's not the most elegant player but so what? The same people who think Stead's poor at this level probably also think Inzaghi's totally overrated just because both look ungainly compared to, say, Counago (though the Counago for attacking midfield suggestion made on here earlier is a nice idea!)

well done keane, you've just pushed the only player who could guarentee to score us goals (who is actually our player) away from the club :@ if he goes, and healy and murphy dont come (we dont want healy anyway, and settling wages for murphy will be difficult) we will be stuck with pablo (will not score enough) wickham (same story) and priskin, who although looks to be getting better cant guarentee 20 goals. Don't people say you shouldnt get rid of a player unless you already have a replacement in mind. And stead clearly wants to go seeing his comments, he obviously doesnt like keane or his management and i think not playing him and sending him out on loan was the last straw, so i will be sorry to see him go. Altough we could just solve this problem by getting rid of the manager instead?

Okay, maybe we keep Stead - for a little while. Murphy's situation is still up in the air. Healy has not really taken off. Pablo and Priskin- hmmmmm and Wickham is not yet the finished article. Murphy needs to be signed up along with another striker such as Chopra. Keep Wickham and Stead as back ups and sell Priskin and Pablo. Any takers?

Shame to see him go good player, given the right management. Keano didnt really like him much from the offset, so he was always fighting a loosing battle.

KeanoBlindFaith - I'd settle for that. I'm never a fan of having a too big a squad so if a quality striker was signed to accompany the permanent signing of Murphy, then Stead and Wickham would provide decent backup with one being a good team man with a decent scoring record at this level and the other an excellent prospect (plus Walters could always switch from midfield to attack during a game or in an injury crisis). Counago, in spite of his quality just hasn't had enough end product and Priskin hasn't settled at all. I met a Watford fan out one night who said we should keep faith with him, and he is certainly young and talented enough to come good, but just think it may be one of those moves that was destined not to work and is maybe better we cut our losses.

Would prefer Stead to stay - gives us more options but Keane has his likes or should I say more dislikes !

'ello fans...just like to apologise for not being able to get the best out of my players like Steady but hopefully i'll be a fully qualified clown come the end of the season and on my way to a club more suited to my clown coaching skills...maybe Blackpool..

well, if we cant keep Stead, then we shouldnt keep Counago either, as Stead is the better player

Blueoveru, thats more bl**dy like it. Your talking my language.

Never can understand why Keane pushed Stead out just because old "ole ole ole three goals" refused to budge.

KeanoTheClown, will you just do one and stop posting your nonsense. Or maybe i should just not rise to it myself and ignore you, rather difficult though!
On Stead, if we get better strikers in during the summer then let him go, if not he does chip in with the odd important goal, would like to see him retained more so though,

Agree with KeaneBlindFaith on this one aswell ... that would be ideal .. Have Murphy and Chopra as front two .. with Wickham and steady to come off bench... but i think Keane will sell the lad.
COYB !!

Why do we have "fans" such as keanotheclown, chambersm and crock. This club doesn't need you negativity, go 40 odd miles into Norfolk and you will find a city where most of the people look very similar and walk round in strange yellow shirts, you will have reached a place called Norwich, go support them and only come back to the mighty portman road when you come to the old farm derby to see Ipswich thrash the budgie boys, thanks
