Town Linked With Summer Move for Cardiff's Chopra
Town Linked With Summer Move for Cardiff's Chopra
Tuesday, 20th Apr 2010 14:54

Town boss Roy Keane is being linked with a £3 million summer move for Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra. The 26-year-old played under Roy Keane at Sunderland and the Blues have been linked with the former England U21 international on a number of occasions.

The Town manager brought Chopra from Cardiff to Sunderland for £5 million in the summer of 2007, the former Newcastle man netting eight times in 24 starts and 18 sub appearances during his time at the Stadium of Light.

Chopra’s record in his spells with Cardiff is more prolific, the frontman scoring 22 goals in 44 games in his first and 25 in 63 starts and 11 appearances from the bench since returning initially on loan last season.

Earlier in the season, Keane said he would have been interested in signing Chopra last summer but was aware that his £3 million move back to Wales was already all but done by the time he took over at Portman Road.

The Town boss is said to be ready to make his move if the Bluebirds fail to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs and find themselves needing to raise cash in the summer.

Do we know how Priskin has done at QPR, can't remember hearing many rave reviews about him?

Is Lee Hughes really 33?

Since Marcus Evans took over we have needed a quality striker, and Chopra would seem to fit the bill. £3M could be money well spent, and it was around what we shelled out on Leadbitter.

He is a tosser, remember he kicked out at Garvan? Coward.
He goes on long long barren spells. If we have £3M to spend lets entice Rickie Lambert, good on the ground, good in the air and has a wicked free kick. We need a good dead ball man and one who bangs in 20 plus would be good. Time we took a chance on someone like him. Did anyone see the goal Simon Cox scored for the Baggies at the weekend, what a peach. They snapped him up from Swindon last summer. £1M I believe. Now thats good business and at the price not a huge loss if it backfires.
Chopper...No thanks.

I'd like to see Chopra come to Town, seems to fit the bill for what we are after. Works well with a big CF....would be good to see him alongside Wickham

Doesn't it make a pleasant change for us to be robbing poor teams rather than other teams robbing us of our quality players??
Quite like the idea of Chopra, Murphy, Wickham and maybe keep Pabs for those game turning moments??
but like all the other comments above, this is all speculation, probably all gonna be about strikers, wingers, and defenders, where we need sorting!

I would love us to get either Chopra or Hooper as they both have a good scoring record at this level. I guess this story is just the same rumour that has persisted all season but I would love it to be true. If Cardiff stay down and make Chopra available, then i'm sure we will be 1 of many clubs interested. Matching the fee hopefully wont be a problem, wages could be a different story, we will then see how much he wants to repay Keane

This would be a great addition as i havent seen a prolific goalscorer in a town shirt for some time but I do think its unlikely we will attract chopra

If Cardiff don't go up then they will be in serious financial trouble. HMRC may well take them out of business altogether. They will be desperate for cash and at that stage we should consider trying to sign some of their better players (Chopra, Bothroyd, McCormack, McPhail, Wittingham and Ledley)

i heard that the only reason cardiff weren't already in admin was because they'd claimed to have a foreign invester but the guy has now walked away or something? (let me just state i dont know that for fact before anyone attacks me! but i thought it was in interesting talking point) so now hopefully they'll be looking to offload a few good players, maybe they'll even give us their manager? hes better than ours lol!

Chopra would be a good addition. He is proven at this level and Hooper, Wickham and Priskin would be a useful quartet to say the least. I see little point in having a large squad. Both Burnley and Newcastle have gone up successfully with small squads. This has also been a feature of those clubs which challenged the top four both historically and presently. If a lot of wages can be saved plus a few fees in surely there will be enough made available to bring in Chopra and Hooper who are proven at this level ? Hope these rumours become more factual before season end. Perhaps cardiff are deep in it financially regardless of being in the play-offs or being promoted.

I agree with comeonthegoodtimes, Lee Hughs & Chopra we would be banging them in. The man done the crime and done his time and I'm sure everyday when he sits down what he did is always in his memory, so leave the guy alone and let him try and rebuild his life.

The guy is a psycho, terrible temper and throws his toys out of pram if things don't go his way. Terrible disciplinary record. He'd be nothing but trouble. Secretly Dave Jones his manager would want to get rid of him if he could. Probably no-one reading this saw him on the Welsh channel S4C take out Gav Williams who was warming up by the corner flag before Williams came on later to score superb late equalizer (Bristol C v Cardiff, FA Cup this season). Chopra's intent to break Gav's leg failed. He really is not the type of player Ipswich Town needs.

Do Town fans not remember how Chopra tried to end Garvan's season back in March!! Dirty player!! Town fans were suggesting that he wouldn't be welcome at Ipswich following that shocking 2 footed stamp!

Zzzzzzzzz, déjà vu. And I don't mean yet another rumour, but so many people on here seeming to think that one striker is suddenly going to turn us into promotion candidates. We'll still be a hardworking dull defensive team with no width and no obvious coaching or tactics, with not enough round pegs in round holes, limited creativity etc. I'm not sure if we got Fernando Torres it would make much difference, other than the odd wonder solo goal he'd score. The answer is not in the playing personnel.

I know a lot of Cardiff fans and most of them would be glad to get rid of Chopra. Very hit and miss this season and i think our money would be better spent elsewhere. He scored 8 goals in his first six games and 4 goals in one game against Derby at the end of September. Since then he has managed just seven goals - thats a good ratio of one a month!

i am an ipswich fan living in cardiff, cardiff still owe 3m to sunderland for chopra they are paying installments of 1m a year, also last transfer window they was alot of rumours that we were talking to cardiff about chopra(cardiff wanted to keep him just for this season because they are doing so well), there is ment to be investment coming in to the club, there court date in some time in may if investment dose not come in to the club and they don't get promoted then there is a good chances of getting him, if we can afford his wages.

Michael Chopra and Iron Striker Gary Hooper!

They are the players we need!

toxtethblue added 14:00 - Apr 21
Agree NW10 - they would be a great double act - with wickham waiting in the wings too. Get these two in and then if we arent in the top 6 by christmas then get rid of keane as any other half decent manager would have us flying with a team like that - by then patience would be wearing very thin if we were still underperforming and listening to keanes excuses week in week out...
