Season Ticket Total 12,800
Season Ticket Total 12,800
Friday, 23rd Apr 2010 13:13

Town sold 12,800 season tickets before the early bird deadline which passed earlier in the month. That figure is 800 up on the same time a year ago with the total eventually reaching 15,950 for the current season.

Chief executive Simon Clegg says the numbers will grow over the summer but doesn’t foresee last year’s figure being matched: "We would expect more purchases through the summer, as is normal, so we will be over the 13,000 mark overall for 2010/11.

"Like for like, we are up around 800 on this stage last year but obviously when you take in the final figures following Roy's arrival last year, there has been a drop.

"While that is disappointing, it is also very understandable and falls in line with the figures we have of other clubs in the Championship who are similar in size to us and have also had similar seasons to us in terms of not being able to reach the play-offs.

"There is also the continuing financial pressure given the current economic climate, but it's worth noting that we are averaging over 20,000 at home games this season, amongst the highest in the Championship.

"Those figures are on the back of what has clearly been a disappointing season so it shows the potential that is there if we start to win games on a consistent basis."

Season ticket prices have been frozen for the season ahead with the Blues also continuing their Premiership Cashback offer.

That's shocking, we should be getting atleast 20,000 season ticket holders

Taking the final two games as an example and looking at standard adult prices, Newcastle are charging us £25 a ticket and we are charging Sheff Utd fans £31. Sheff Utd v Swansea tomorrow is only £10 a ticket.

Now all the pro-Keane fans have renewed, I wonder how many anti-Keane fans would also renew if we changed manager now and ran a promotion like last summer? We got 12,800 under Magilton and it increased to 15,950 with Keane's appointment. Would someone like Burley or Mowbray coming in re-energise disillusioned fans and sell some more tickets I wonder? What can we do to avoid a half-empty Portman Road next season?!

It's nothing to do with the recession Mr. Clegg, please do not deceive yourself. It is all to do with the boring, unimaginative rubbish that has been dished up this season by our clueless manager and lets face it he is hardly likely to suddenly become a good manager during the close season.
Also, leaving ticket prices the same as last year and making out you are doing us a favour is an insult. The season ticket prices should have been reduced to reflect the loyalty of all of us that had to sit through this season, that would also have allowed more flexibility to reduce match day tickets, rather than use the excuse that it wouldn't 'be fair on our loyal season ticket holders'.
To be honest I don't care if the guy next to me has got in for a fiver as long as he gets behind the team.

Totally agree with the ticket prices being way too high, especially when you consider the sh**e we have been served up in the name of entertainment.
I can not think for the life of what Simon Clegg is doing at the club, surely it is his job to fill the stadium and maximize income.....Taxi for Clegg and Keane

well mine costs £368 which makes it come to around £16.00 per game, but i know somebody who goes to every game and hasnt got a season ticket! he pays around £30.00 to watch every game ! So im happy paying £16.00,but that number 12k does sound very poor

I think the main problem is the Roy Keane factor allowed extra sales last year. Lets not forget sales were less than 12,800 when Jim was in the last remaining days of his three year tenure. I can't see how people can just focus and blame Roy. Sure, this season has been hughly disappointing, but game for game I have enjoyed the matches more than the last season Jim was in charge, which was IMO, some of the worst football I have ever seen.

The other point is for many money is even more hard to come by this year. People have to make a decision - can they justify spending 500 on a season ticket and the petrol costs to every game etc. I travel 125 miles (round trip) to every home game. It is costly. Luckily I am in a position to justify the cost, but fully understand that some may not. Is this Roy's fault? No.

Having expressed the opinion to Mr Clegg earlier in the season that we need to lower prices in order to encourage higher attendances, I think the official line is that this is unlikely to happen because it would be difficult to maintain spectator numbers if prices then had to rise again. I must say, I don't really understand this, and it's something I feel strongly about. I think we should aim to fill PR every match (note: "aim to") and that lower prices would be a gamble well worth taking to achieve that. Most people would probably accept that if we got into the PL, then prices would eventually rise. I know we are a business, but surely there are economically viable opportunities for some more creative pricing while in the Championship, and what about the spin-off benefits of larger crowds (more vocal encouragement, shop, bar sales etc.)? Family tickets, bring-a-friend free or for £10, or whatever. Naarwich is a bigger place than Ipswich and together with Yarmouth and N. Norfolk they probably have a larger catchment area. So they will probably get in more people than us when they are doing well. But I agree with someone above that the diffgerence in our attendance figures is becoming "embarrassing." There is also a special problem for people like me who can't buy a season ticket and have to spend a fortune to travel to PR. Surely we can do something to lower prices and increase attendance? Any suggestions? Why not mail Mr. Clegg!

even without the current financial climate £500 is a lot of money but are you all really moaning about the cost??? or moaning about paying £500 to watch what at times has been truly dreadful football? Please bare in mind that Mr Evans is trying to run a business, 15,000 tickets at an average of £500 a throw is £7.5m, half that to £250 and get maybe 20,000 will only give you £5m, yes there will be more food, drink & merchandise sales but will that really cover the £2.5m shortfall???
I would personally like to see a significant reduction into matchday ticket prices to encourage the part-timers to come more often. Currently £37.50 is bringing in an extra 5000 bums on seats and a total income of £187,500. Slash that by £15 per head to £22.50 with a view to encouraging 10000 will bring in £225,000. Generating extra income in both ticket sales, food, drink & merchandise.
