Leicester Want Bruce Deal
Leicester Want Bruce Deal
Wednesday, 2nd Jun 2010 09:58

Defender Alex Bruce has confirmed that Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson wants to sign him on a permanent basis. Bruce spent the second half of the season on loan at the Walkers Stadium having fallen out of favour at Portman Road.

Bruce said: “I have spoken to the manager and he said he would like to do something, so I will have to wait and see.

"There are a few hurdles to overcome and a lot will depend on how much Ipswich ask for me.

"I hope they do get something sorted but, if they don't, I will knuckle down at Ipswich and win my place back."

The Blues are likely to want a fee somewhere around the £250,000 mark for the Republic of Ireland international, who has another year left on his contract.

Bruce’s probable exit is likely to see Town look for another central defender during the close season as there is currently no experienced right-sided centre-half cover for first choice Gareth McAuley.

The Northern Irishman could also leave Portman Road this summer with Bolton Wanderers and Rangers understood to be showing interest in the 30-year-old.

Mixed feelings about losing Brrrrooooossss! He gets stuck in and doesn't shy away from a physical tussle. But it seems as though he isn't in Keano's plans, so if he has to go, then he has to go. £250k is a reasonable sum for him, let's invest in new blood.

Bruce is , and always has been an almighty liability. Charging around making reckless challanges, beating your chest as the red mist decends is not the "quality" of defender we need. Best he makes his way and moves on. Good luck Bruce !

Such a shame looked very solid and settled at town 12-18 months ago and probabaly played better under magilton. What if mcauley and delaney get injured or are not in form? They both played well last season but we still need decent cover. In my opinion bruce is definetly good enough to play for town and i wish him well if he moves on to leicester!

Good news. When he played last season we conceeded goals. When he, Richard Wright and Pim were dropped - we didn't conceed as many. Coincidence? I think not.

That contract extension paid off well then.

Jim was right to get rid of him all along...
