Town Up Chopra Offer
Town Up Chopra Offer
Friday, 4th Jun 2010 23:12

Town are understood to have made an increased offer of £3.75 million to Cardiff for striker Michael Chopra. The former Sunderland man is Roy Keane’s number one striking target as he looks to end the Blues’ goalscoring woes.

Chopra played for Keane at Sunderland and the Town boss is a huge admirer of the 26-year-old, who started his career at Newcastle.

The Blues were reported to have made an initial offer of £3 million, subsequently raising their bid to £3.5 million and now £3.75 million.

Keane is believed to be looking to pair Chopra, who is valued at £4 million by the Bluebirds, with Connor Wickham next season.

I really hope there is sme weight behind this story as Chopra could be our missing piece in the jigsaw... granted a fairly large piece

That's a lot of money. Just hope RK knows what he's doing and that this pays off

Holy sh*t. This will be the deal that we look back to in three years and say: that was the crazy deal that led to bankruptcy. How can we possibly afford this?? This runs counter to everything this club stands for. I hope Cardiff turn down the offer and sanity returns.

ARC - I understand your worry, but if we are to make some impression on the promotion push then Chopra is the striker we need, we cannot afford premier strikers and we could take a risk with lesser known players but that is a risk we can ill afford. Chopra is the best striker outside the premier league so lets go with it and fingers crossed, there is no guarantee with any signing.

This is what we need to pay to get a striker that should do the business for us. I for one hope this comes off

From Wikipedia: "Chopra credited Roy Keane for helping him to sort out his private life". There's clearly some sort of bond here, so it may be quite probable that we land Chopra. He is clearly quality at this level, and I'd meet Cardiff's £4m valuation to get him. Remember, that's what we paid for Matteo Sereni...

STC = you really think so? Chopra will make ITFC a promotion contender

I'm not normally one to advocate throwing money at a club, but this summer we have to give the manager every penny he wants to get us promoted. It doesn't matter if we get stuffed every match the following season, the new parachute payments coming in mean it's essential for us to go up next year or it's doubtful we ever will. Get Chopra, get new fullbacks, get anyone he wants, for one year only we have to try to buy our way out of this league.

Well said Manic_Blue (although your name gives me no faith!) lol, but yes we need to make an almighty push this year, we have a young star in Wickham, but need the likes of Chopra (spend what ever it needs?) to get us up there, Murphy as back up, the defence is good, ( no sales please) but obviously recruitment at full backs, and a creative midfielder and we have a good team. Quite easy really.. hahahha Mr Keane please do what is obvious in the fans heads, it will keep you in a very good paid job, we make these decisions for you for nothing other than passion, just remember that pal! we are fully behind you whilst you you do the best for ITFC. Thank you

Worth every penny if he bangs in the goals to fire us into the Prem!!

Come next May, Chopra scores the winner in the PO final, then what will the doubters say??

i find it completely baffling to hear people complaining about our lack of fire power, how we need a new top drawer striker in...and when we actually go after one, they start complaining.

wake up, top players that are needed to get out of this division don't come cheap, we have a very solid financial backing thanks to mr evans....stop complaining about every single decision made.

a potential chopra and wickham strike force gets me very excited!!

Right move Keano. Similar to what we spent on Finidi George but I'm hoping for a higher return from the chop.

I still think everyone is being overly harsh on the strikers we have/had. Everyone seems to be arguing that Bent never got a real chance in the England squad but this is how I feel about the majority of the strike force at ITFC. It doesn't matter if you are on the field or not, if you aren't getting the supply then it isn't your fault. Whilst Priskin looked lazy at times, I think it was more him being demoralised by the lack of supply. I believe he is proven at this level at Watford, so why do people think he isn't worth anything? I really do not understand this logic.

The best part of £4m seems quite a lot of money aswell for one player. As much as I would love to see Town in the Prem asap, I do think we are trying to rush it. The 'Magilton' Plan didn't work out so well and so with Keane I think we should restart a 5 year plan. Part of the problem is that half the fans think we DESERVE to be in the premiership, when in reality we have been in it 2 of the past 15 years - this is no divine right.

I understand optimism as I would love to see Town in the premiership in the near future, but at the same time people need to realise that we are not a Wigan, Bolton or Fulham and did not stand the test of time; so building the foundations is more important than having one good season and being the whipping boys the following year in the Premiership.

As others have said, We have to address our striker issue, I'm pleased that ME has the desire to back the talk with an offer like this, I agree we have to "push the boat out" to land Chopra, IMO he is a far better option than a "Prem League reject" ....... IF we land him, this will be the Championship signing of the summer!! COYB!

Well if we're going to be up there next season then obviously we need to bring in proven players that'll make that happen. Chopra would be a huge capture because that could lead to other players(still think we'd need possibly three!!)wanting to be part of what we're trying to do here...we still have a huge way to go IMO, we could buy Chopra and in the first game he could get injured and be out for three months, it's just one player....when Keane took over I said he'd need £30m to get us promoted, hmmm....he may just do it on £20m, lets hope so!!

Big Fee 4 Chopra - but as has been previously published we had more shots than anyone last year but did not take the chances. Chopra, Priskin, Wickham, Stead will get us the goals next year season to fire us to glory! Like to see Keane sign a holding midfielder in order to allow Leadbetter to get forward more as he is a fantastic talent that needs and can score more goals.

COYB - Keano

This seems to counter Simon Clegg's comments in the week which seemed to suggest we had to sell before we could buy. If Chopra keeps his head there is no doubt he would be an excellent acquisition for Town, it could prove to be a fruitful partnership with Wickham. However, if we pay him stupid wages, how does that make the rest of the squad feel? If his purchase would cause disrest amongst the squad it just won't be worth it for the club. I have quite mixed feelings on this and the word out of Cardiff is that Chopra wants to step up to the Premiership so this may all turn out to be an OTT rumour.
