Civelli Finally Returns to Training
Civelli Finally Returns to Training
Monday, 28th Jun 2010 17:49

Midfielder Luciano Civelli was back in training for the first time in 15 months when the Blues returned to Playford Road for the start of their pre-season programme this morning. The Argentinian was stretchered off in the 1-1 draw against Burnley at Portman Road in March 2009.

Boss Roy Keane says the 23-year-old, who spent much of last season recuperating in his homeland, has been given the OK by his doctors: “Luca should be training today, I spoke with him in the last few days. He came in last week.

"Medically, he’s been given the thumbs up to get back into full-time training.

“Like every other player in pre-season we’ll gauge it, but he could be the surprise package, although he has been out for a long, long time and if we are going to be a little bit patient with any of the players, then he’ll be the one.

“But, as I say, he’s due to train with the rest of the players and we’ll look forward to it because, seeing the video clips, he looks like he could be a good player, but he’s come back from a pretty bad injury.”

Civelli joined Town for £1.1 million from Banfield in Argentina in January 2009 and made eight appearances before suffering his injury.

Also back training with the Blues for the first time in a year this morning was striker Kevin Lisbie, although the former Charlton and Colchester man joined the academy group including the likes of Josh Meekings and Josh Carson rather than the senior squad.

The 31-year-old, who is contracted to the Blues for another season, recently said that he was interesting a number of clubs, with Millwall previously having made their interest public.

Welcome back Luca.

The South American clubs have looked very impressive in the World Cup. I read that Leeds have seven Brazilians on trial. Perhaps Ipswich should do some more scouting in that part of the world to try to find some gems? The likes of Mauricio Taricco and Sixto Peralta were excellent players, even though Adrian Paz was not up to much!

I actually agree with one of Keane's decisions. Having Lisbie train with the academy players is justifed. The silly sod should have kept his mouth shut.

Anyway, welcome to Keane's boot camp circus Luca !!!!

Great news about Civelli, welcome back.

I hope Lisbie doesn't have a negative impact on the academy players! What a complete useless lump of lard he is, the sooner he gets lost the better.

While I'm happy if the lad is now on the way to full fitness (for his own sake), I find the overly optimistic comments on here astonishing. He was rubbish : slow and out of touch, a kind of foreign Darren Currie or Gary Roberts.

Lisbie with the academy team haha made my day that has,, he deserves it though, the guy is an idiot with no respect for us who are his current employer, or col utd (can't blame him) who he was with last year quoted saying "he would gratefully leave in January if a move came up". What a selfish tosser who doesn't deserve to be even training with our academy boys.

He will be like a new signing.

I can understand DaileyITFC's comments but heprobably only watched the first 2 games, he really started to come into his own and got better and better with each game.It was a real shame he got injured but hopefully he can get fit and I really believe he could be the missing piece for Priskin to get scoring. Priskin thrives on good service (so does Counago), so with civelli flying down the wing (Ala Peta, Uhlenbeek) we wil see the goals flying in.

Come on you blues and come on all you negatives ninnies. The season hasn't even begun but I am so excited (Despite being half way across the globe) This could be our year and until it is matehmatically impossible I will be keeping the faith.

COME ON IPSWIH, COME ON IPSWICH
