Wright Linked With Manchester City
Friday, 9th Jul 2010 08:51

Released Town keeper Richard Wright has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester City. The 32-year-old was let go by the Blues at the end of the season.

Wright has previously been mentioned in connection with West Ham, Crystal Palace and Charlton.

The former England keeper is reportedly seen as back-up with one of Shay Given or Joe Hart the first choice and the other expected to be sent out on loan.

Meanwhile, former Town striker Sam Parkin is training with St Johnstone after being released by Walsall and is expected to sign for SPL side, while ex-loanee Giovani Dos Santos has been linked with a move from Spurs to Blackburn.

Tell him to go to Man City and we'll have Shay Given on loan. Simples!

I thought they had just signed another young goalkeeper from overseas?

Nice little 2 yr £20k a week retirement plan, although he has been on a retirement plan since he joined the Gooners.

What a waste of a potentially great career... training with England at, what, 18? And now, still only 32, he's struggled to make an impression at Championship level and his best hope is as a reserve keeper.

Why? Has Shay Given been moaning that the bench is cold? The only keeping Wright will do is keeping the seat warm. As MyBlueHeaven said.. what a waste of a career.

I am grateful for his contribution to that first season in the Prem and wish him well. Yes he is being paid a fortune to warm the bench, but given the chance wouldn't we all?

hype313 added 10:32 - Jul 9
Er no i wouldnt Tractorog - do you sit at work twinddling your thumbs doing nothing whilst getting paid? I think not. me personally, spending ten years sitting on the bench regardless of how much money i was getting would drive me insane. But some of us have goals in life and then some of us would dream to be a benchwarmer on £20k a week.

Hype313 - no you're not twiddling your thumbs at work, you're writing on football forums instead, thats much more honourable

Come on, the chance to go to a Man City and earn a lot of money, I think most people would go for that

You're spot on, MyBlueHeaven and BergholtBlue, this is terribly sad. What a great young keeper Wrighty was and now more likely to spend the rest of his career picking up a big salary to sit on a sub's bench. What a waste.

Ten years sat on a bench wasting ?,he was our player of the year before Keane came to Ipswich ,and was great at Saints who also wanted to sign him the season before that .Such short memories our fans have .
Perhaps City think he is good enough to play if needed and in the meantime could add a lot to the young goalkeepers whilst there as a coach ,shame we didnt think the same

Ah, there's the home-grown player rule doing it's thing. When a club of galaticos needs a third-string goalie for their European squad, they will look for some token Englishman. But, Plug, remember what happened to last season's third string, that poor old Faroes Islands bloke–when his chance came, it was declared an "emergency" worthy of a rules change by the PL. He was never seen again...

Wrighty must think he has won the lottery!!! First of all he gets away from the worst manager in history. Second, he is going to get massive loads of cash for sitting on Man City's bench behind Given and Hart. Eighty grand a week to pick splinters out of his ar$e. Not bad !!!!

You are getting really boring IpswichElvis. Just give it a rest. I think everybody has got the message that you dont like Roy Keane but I dont think you have any factual evidence that he is the 'worst manager in history'. Go and join the Budgies or something.

And as soon as the one they keep is injured, the other one will be recalled from his loan club and Wrighty will be back on the bench again. He might be given a few Europa League games, of course.

Im sorry but nowadays Wright couldn't even catch a cold. I have no idea why Man City want him, he will definatly be behind Given/Hart who knows he might even be behind Faroe Island's Gunnar Nielssen! But seriously the only thing I can think of would be Given's injury might not be healing at a fast rate and they need backup.

I love ipswich with all my heart, i really do, like all of you i get frustrated with lack of activity in the market and other stuff that goes on, but why feel the need to critisise a very good goalkeeper, if it wasnt for wrights earlier form last season we would have lost a lot more thn we draw, he wasnt to blame, it was our strikers not scoring enough, he has been a good servant to town, and he is upset to be leaving again, Good luck Richard wherever you go.

Good luck to him. If Man City are prepared to pay him £12K to sit on the bench - then good for Richard. We clearly can NOT afford to have an expensive back up. Rightly released, but I wish him well.
