Town boss Roy Keane has been keeping an eye on Cardiff City central defender Gábor Gyepes, according to reports in Wales. The Hungarian international is unlikely to be in Dave Jones’s first team and may move on in order to play regular football.

Cardiff, who are currently subject to a transfer embargo, are hoping to sign former defender Glenn Loovens on loan from Celtic by the time the season starts, leaving them with five centre-halves. The Blues are likely to be looking for additional central defenders with Damien Delaney out for three months with a thigh injury and Alex Bruce expected to move on to Sheffield United.

Budapest-born Gyepes started his career with hometown club Ferencváros, joining Wolves in 2005 after a trial.

A cruciate knee ligament injury in March 2006 led to fears that his career might be over and saw his Wolves contract terminated. But, after recovering back home in Hungary, Gyepes won a deal at Northampton Town in January 2008. The following summer the 29-year-old moved on to Cardiff for £200,000.

Gyepes, who is married to Hungarian figure skater Diana Poth, scored the second of Cardiff’s goals in their 2-1 defeat of the Blues at Portman Road in December 2008.

Capped 26 times by his country, scoring one goal, 6ft 3in tall Gyepes is contracted to Cardiff until 2012.

Gyepes is the second Cardiff player to be linked with the Blues this summer with Town's efforts to sign striker Michael Chopra still understood to be ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Blues continue to be linked with another Hungarian, Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop. Newspapers in the North-East expect an offer thought to be in the region of £1 million made by Town earlier this week to be accepted by the Black Cats. Fulop is understood to be weighing up whether to join the Blues with West Brom previously linked. Chief executive Simon Clegg is currently away from Portman Road but is still involved in club business by phone.

While Fulop looks likely to be on his way out of the Stadium of Light, former Blue Titus Bramble has completed his £1 million switch to the Wearside cub from Wigan.

Not good enough for Cardiff, Not good enough for Town. Simples.

Pull some Celtic Strings and get Loovens on a Season Loan, or better! Celtic may wish to sort out a placing for Loovens and Cardiff have way to many question marks over them at the moment.

I can't comment on this lad as I haven't really seen him play... but like others, I'd love to see Loovens down here... Quality centre half!
I do love the anti-brigade... so this guy has no links to either Sunderland or Ireland... oh gosh, it's now expanded to Sunderland/Ireland & Hungary RK will only sign from... for god's sake get a life guys...
2 things: the furlop and this potential deal might be pure press speculation... we've seen enough of them in the past! Secondly is is such a great surprise that RK may be looking at Hungarians? He has an expensive Hungarian forward on the books who appears very "down" at present, is unlikely to be sold as noone will want him based on last years performances (For us or QPR), does have the ability to score (year before at Watford) but may just need a little help in settling down... what better way than to bring in someone who speaks his own language... Remember we only got Taricco as a "matey" for Adrian Paz and he ended up a cult hero at Portman Road... As long as whichever Hungarian that comes in is better than we have (I think Furlop is... don't know with this guy, but given Delaney's injury he only has to be better than McAuley...) what's the problem? We may kill to birds with one stone!

Would be happy if he signed, but surely it's more important to sign someone upfront.

Hasnt played a full season since his time back in Hungary, I think there are far better options out there. Maybe as a loan signing just until Delaney is back but definitely not on a permanant!

I dont think the goally and defender are effecting our chances of getting a striker or two. Its just that these two have become available first.

But hang on, according to most of you Keane only signs players who are Irish or from Sunderland (conveniently forgetting about ALB, Troy Brown, Lee Martin and Tamas Priskin).

well he might make priskin feel more at home which might make him turn good but then again is he good enough

Maybe a journo heard that Keane only wanted to sign hungry players?

Don't know much about this lad, but he played 15 times for Cardiff (who finished 4th) between January and March this year, before being sent off against Leicester, so I think calling him Cardiff's 5th choice centre back is a bit wide of the mark.

Don't forget that Cardiff are strapped for cash, so they probably need to sell a few of their better players to balance the books. The danger is that if we pay too much for Gyepes, Cardiff will be under less pressure to sell Chopra...

If we can pick up Gyepes very cheaply, for free or on loan then he might be worth bringing in, as we are short of cover at centre back.

As was discussed yesterday, Fulop may be a very good goalkeeper and if we can afford to spend around £3M (tranfer fee + wages) as well as bringing in quality attackers then lovely. However, if buying him limits our resources when it comes to getting strikers then we should not buy him. We already have three professional goalkeepers and I thought Keane wanted to slim down the squad?!

I log on to this thread and the first FIVE posts are 100% negative. Just about sums up the so called fans of this club. People moan if we sign Irish players, they moan if they are from Sunderland and now they moan about this. Some of you people should be ashamed to call yourself a 'fan'.

I think Roy has learned from the few mistakes he made last season. There werent as many as people harp on about, Lee Martin was a mistake mainly in terms of transfer fee and contract length, but both issues surely in the remit of Clegg. Priskin was another error but he has scored goals at this level and Keane (with these Hungarian links and the fact that he is not one of the 8 transfer listed) is obviously trying to put an arm round his shoulder even if it is in his own unique way! Then letting Jordan go was an error and his constant chopping and changing of the side in the first half of the season didnt help.
However, he seems to be mellowing out week by week and does seem to show a lot of protectiveness towards most of the players, and for the most part will defend them and blame himself when things were going wrong.
This Irish / Sunderland thing is totally stupid. The best managers in the world have brought players that they have worked with before such as Brian Clough, Jose Mourinho etc, so why does Keane get so much stick.
We should remember that Keane is making his way at the management game and has moved his family to a brand new area, which he didnt do at sunderland.
He is also handicapped by pre conceptions of people, that his style of play as a footballer has made him a lot of enemies in the game, and so they wont deal with him now as a manager.
I for one still cant believe that a legend like Keano is on our side and in our dugout and I am sure he will get it right and make all the doubters and norwich fans on this forum eat their words.

Your post is so bright I think Ive got arc eye 123.
We should all remember that changing the attitude of the club in all departments was keans priority even at the expense of results till he found out who were the right types and then build from there which is what we are doing now. Just like Bob had to.
