McCormack-Stead Switch Talks Continue
Wednesday, 11th Aug 2010 12:09

Town and Cardiff are continuing to talk about a proposed swap deal involving Ross McCormack moving to Portman Road and Jon Stead joining the Bluebirds, according to reports in Wales. News of the Blues interest in the Scot first surfaced earlier in the week.

Speaking after last night’s game with Exeter, boss Roy Keane refused to comment on specific targets. On Monday, Keane said that there could be news on Stead’s future later in the week.

McCormack would be a great signing.

Dont really want to lose Stead as he is a useful squad player, however I think we need to let him go to free up wages.

Hope he does not go as he is a very useful player to have around. If all else fails get McCormack and keep Stead I say. Can't see Stead going to Cardiff myself but who knows.

McCormack would be an absolutely superb signing. I like Jon Stead, but McCormack can play in two positions, was valued at £3m+ just over a year ago, has scored over 20 goals in a Championship season and is only 23. There's no comparison.

Go get him Roy.

As my login name, I would be dissapointed to lose Stead, especially after coming off the bench on Saturday and scoring and earning praise from Keane with his effort last night. I think he clearly wants to win Keane back over and stay with us as he has already turned to offers down after offers were accepted.

McCormack & Scotland would be Great signing's but I would also like to see Stead stay.

People talk about Stead's wages but McCormack will hardly come for peanuts a week. At a guess Stead is on £10,000 a week, Macca must be the same?

McCormack to replace Walters at RM but seems a strange one to replace Stead.

No question in my mind that McCormack is a young and useful player, so for that matter he's most welcome. He's had a mediocre season when looking at the goals, the season before that (21 of age btw) was very impressive. Funny to see that with Chopra, it's just the opposite.

Also I must say that Stead is a type of striker that any manager would love to have on the bench. If you want to play long ball, I can't see any of the remaining strikers being the target man that Steady can be.

Wait and see...

The fact they are both likely to be on c.£10k per week is exactly the point!!... would have to clear one out the bring the other in!!

Unfortunately, I think Stead will have to go to free up wages, would like to see him stay as he's proved he can still do a job for us in the last two games. On the other hand, though, I'm confident that young Ronan can make an impact from the bench - a role that Stead would be relegated to if Priskin/whoever is to be our starting forward.
My pre-season nerves are settling down nicely now, thankyou.

Like others, I think McCormack would be a good addition, but I would keep Stead - and then I don't think we need anyone else (up front, at least). With McCormack, Priskin, Stead, Wickham and Murray (and maybe Walters still), I think that's healthy enough competition for what is often a lone striker role.

Signs are this season that more advanced midfield roles for Norris and Leadbitter, hopefully combined with improved delivery from the flanks from Edwards and Civelli, will provide our strikers with more chances. The strikers we have are decent enough to put away a good proportion of those opportunities - I don't think we need to push the boat out on a Chopra or a Scotland.

After last night's whole hearted, battling performance by Stead (and the rest of the team) it would be a shame to lose a player, who can contribute so much in terms of his all round play.

The Exeter game showed several players willing to put their bodies in the firing line for the Ipswich cause - and he was one of them. Jon Stead had the heart, the spirit and the energy to run for 120 minutes... just the sort of character RK wants in the team.

Got a feeling that Stead would like to play on a regular basis, but it seems that Priskin and Wickham will be the first in line and if we get Scotland, Stead would slip further down the list.
BBC web site states that Blackpool boss is on a crash course with the charman as he wont brake the wage structure at Blackpool and they have lost out on four signing because of this. Stead name was mentioned.

It looks like they want Stead gone because of his wages are high and will be a fringe player and the money saved will go towards Scotland,McCormack, a defender etc IMO

Stead should only be sold if we get a decent replacement. Any chance the Bluebirds would take Pablo????

I cant see Stead signing for Cardiff if I am honest, as much as I think this deal is good for all parties involved I can see Stead seeing his contract out here.

The only thing that might sell it to Stead is the fact that Cardiff will be around the play-offs come the end of the season, whether the cash strapped club can offer him the high personal terms that neither Bristol or Blackpool could remains to be seen!

I hope either way we can get McCormack in, a front three of Walters, McCormack & Wickham is mouth watering!

i think swapping mcCormack for stead would be a great bit of business. if we r looking for promotion we need to start building now, stead generally failed in the premiership, and i dont think that would change if he was there again. mcCormack has another goal in him to push us close this season, whilst he is also at an age to improve and possibly be good enough to score goals in the prem if we did get promoted. obviously on the other hand stead seems to be r most in form striker at the mo, so its a difficult one reli

Stead is looking very keen and fit this year and can score goals if given a run ,i believe he offers more than Priskin and would be a big loss .Keane says our squad is paper thin then we need to buy not swap like for like or the numbers stay the same .And if we are losing Stead to get Scotland that could be a big risk as he is low on confidence and may not work out ?

I would think that Cardiff are in the same boat of having to free up wages so I can't see that they would offer Stead a similar wage to one he is getting with Town. Considering he (Stead) has already turned down 2 possible moves due to personal terms I wouldn't be surprised if this deal falls over.

Mcormack is better than Walters, let alone Chopra, great signing if it happens.

Scotland is worse than Ian Marshall. What are we thinking there.

Given the start we have had I think too many changes might be just what we don't need. You can't buy togetherness.

Mcormack is a decent player but i wouldnt swap him for Stead as i think Stead is performing well so far this season. He played a main part to help us beat both Middlesbrough and Exeter and i think if we kept him then we would go close swap Lisbie or Counago they both are surplus to requirements.

my prediction of what will happen=nothing,it wil dribble away like the other 50 supposed signings, and "were realy close to getting",players. Its all becomming very boring, and dull.

Bluroo... You clearly dont know your history. Ian Marshall, whilst looking a little ungamely had a great touch and was a class finisher.

Please take your derisory remarks back.

I went to the Exeter match yesterday and stead was on of our better palyers. he was closing the keeper down and the defenders. he was really working hard for the team.

I dont want stead to go , but McCormack would be a great signing. If we get him we should keep stead .

And the boys how say scotland would be a bad signing, he was a great player at swansea and is really good at chamionship level.

marshallsmullet......we all know Walters will be gone by Sep 1st so potentially we will be without Stead and Walters. Agree in signing Mac but not releasing Stead. If ME is serious about getting into the top 6 we need to keep Stead.

Bluroo - Ian Marshll was quality, may have looked lazy but he still delivered. The Mathie-Marshall partnership was just as good and exciting as Kuqi-Bent.

Its funny how ideas and posts change. People couldn't wait to get rid of Stead and now, 2 games in he is invaluable. The club know what they are doing and if they get their men then all the better, if not then we have a good enough team to push on this year, that is if we don't sell anyone.

Went to the match last night, first one in a year and a half so im obviously not the one to listen to here.

However, for what its worth, for all the running Stead does, he can't win a header to save his life. The guy is huge, yet for every ball that was hoofed up to him, he just seemed to jump and hope it would bounce off his face.

Can't deny his work rate, but if the option was there for the pace of McCormack and the physical presence of Scotland in exchange for Steady, I know what i'd take!

But hey, like I say, ive only seen 1 game in a year and a half, so what do i know?!
