Wigan Put Scotland Deal On Hold
Wigan Put Scotland Deal On Hold
Tuesday, 17th Aug 2010 10:18

Town’s move for Wigan striker Jason Scotland is on hold while the Latics secure his replacement, according to reports in Lancashire. Over the weekend, Blues boss Roy Keane said he was hopeful of signing Scotland in time for Saturday’s game at Crystal Palace.

However, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is said to want to secure a replacement for Scotland before he’ll allow him to move on with Chelsea’s Franco di Santo a loan target. The Latics face Chelsea at the weekend, so the Argentinian wouldn’t be able to play for Martinez’s side until the following week. The Latics boss is also concerned about Victor Moses, who suffered an injury in the 4-0 weekend mauling by Blackpool.

Wigan confirmed that they had accepted an offer believed to be £750,000 from the Blues last week with the player subsequently holding talks with Town.

Meanwhile, ex-Blue Owen Garvan says he won’t be out to show former boss Roy Keane what he’s missing when his Crystal Palace side meet Town on Saturday: "I do not think I have a point to prove to him.

“You do not want to go down that route really, I am not that type of person. I am only interesting in prove a point to myself, the rest will follow.

“I do not really know if I had a good relationship with Keane to be honest but that does not concern me. Those days are gone and all that matters to me now is playing well for Crystal Palace.

"It will probably be a bit strange playing against the lads so early on in the season but it is a game I am looking forward to.

"I know the lads and what they are good at and they know what I am good at so it will be interesting to see who wins out."

Garvan will line-up alongside fellow former Blues Darren Ambrose, Alan Lee and David Wright on Saturday for the club now managed by George Burley. Ex-Town keeper Lewis Price is likely to be on the bench.

Elsewhere, former Blue Richard Wright is being linked with Middlesbrough, having been released at the end of last season. Wright has been training with Palace, where ex-Town keeper-coach Malcolm Webster is also now employed, since leaving Portman Road.

I'd pull the plug and move on to someone else.

Sounds like Martinez is playing silly buggers to me.

Christ didn't realise Palace signed Price and had Wrighty training as well as the other ex-ITFC lads. Hopefully they do well with our old guard.

Whether it is Scotland or any other target, we need these players signed now! Its not like we haven't had the whole summer to get things like this tee'd up! I have been so impressed with our start but that can crumble into insignficance if we don't make the additions sooner rather than later! I'm sure Martinez is pulling our plumbs too... Why hang on to Scotland... He can't score in that league?!?!?! Come on Keano kick some ass and get things underway....

This is on hold due to Kenwyne Jones injury.
Stoke are bidding £9 million for Wigan's Rodellega.

Not good timing as by the time Wigan ship another 8 goals against Chelsea at the weekend i doubt that Martinez will still be there anyway ! which is just likely to delay things even more!

Cant see Keane being to happy with this, says he is impatient at the best of times and we do appear to be getting d*cked about on this one. Lets move on to other targets, surely we can do better then a 31 year old who cant hit a barn door in the Premiership.

Why oh why arent we going for Jay Simpson! What happened to the Fryatt rumour-surely either of those are better?

this is ridiculous, we need to stamp our feet and tell Wigan it's now or never - this is not fair on anyone including the player who clearly wants to move on now! Mind this is only 'speculation'...

I blame Clegg. We have only had these long drawn out transfer saga's since his arrival.

seasonticketsteve- 45 goals in 90 games for Swansea only 2 years ago, to me that suggests a great player at this level. Certainly better than anyone else we could get for less than £1M, and better than the £4M-rated Chopra.

This is really getting ridiculous and so frustrating for us fans. The problem is we will not keep getting away with Priskin and Stead as our main strikers and the situation is becoming rather urgent now. Feel sorry for Keane being continually messed around by the 3rd parties he must be as frustrated as we are. No doubt Lee will bang in one on Saturday to add to our frustations.

whilst it would be geat to get these signings in the bag, done and dusted, and i believe genuinely that town are not at fault in getting them nailed down, im actually not overly concerned for one reason and that is how impressive the players we have at the moment have been so far this season, i have such confidence in them all i dont think it will be problem and im confident that we will cary on getting results with what we have, i have faith in what ever youngster plays and can see goals in our team from many quarters, any new additions will be appreciated but no need to panic, just keep going as we are and we will be ok.

1 goal in 32 appearances in the Premiership though and i quote " couldnt hit a barn door in the Premiership"

Also 23 of those goals were scored in League 1 when Swansea were promoted.

Keane said he was expecting three new players by the weekend with two leaving.
Scotland, the celtic defender and McCormack. Two weeks ago Scotland was so very very unbelieveable close to signing, would hate it to see us go for someone else then as it will take at least 3 months if 2 weeks is so very very close!!!!!!!
If Scotland deal is on hold and McCormack is going to Hull (reported) That means Stead is staying. so by Saturday Walters will be gone (Midfileder) and a defender in.
Or was McCormack never coming and have we got a different midfileder lined up

Cormack out of the frame and now it looks very likely that Scotland is out of it as well!!!!!. Who do we turn to now ????? just 2 weeks to deadline day !!!!!!!

What a surprise. I just came on here thinking - "I wonder if we've signed Scotland yet" and I should really have been expecting this story.

With Bellamy off to Cardiff, back for Chopra!

Is Rickie Lambert fit yet , Fryatt - yes - Wigan and Martinez - after Saturday vs Blackpool are probably at sea!!! Walters could be a key in a swap move somewhere I think which of course will drag it out even more

But, seasonticketsteve, we are not in the premier league and I really couldnt care less if Scotland scored 20 goals to get us into the prem, as he nearly did at Swansea, and then never scores for us again, I would be happy.

Also, he is better than all other strikers we have been linked with. Fryatt, with 91 in 265, again most in league 1, and Chopra, with 81 in 231, both cant compete with Scotlands goalscoring record , and they would both cost over double his price.

tom_the_blue i'm with you on this, and i also think people are over-reacting unbelievably. IF this post is true, and i have my doubts, then it just means the deal is held up whilst Wigan get cover. He didnt come up to scratch last season so i doubt very much Wigan will risk using him this year when they have a clear chance to sell him and use the money elsewhere. Thats my humble oppinion! Personally i am bored bored bored of all the speculation and will be happy when the window has closed and we can get on with the season ahead!

Cant compete with Scotlands goal scoring record-he has had one decent season in the Championship-very Lisbie like!

The majority of the time he has played in the lower leagues of Scotland and League 1-hardly the top quality striker we crave in my opinion.
