Martin Liking Life at Charlton
Martin Liking Life at Charlton
Thursday, 19th Aug 2010 12:11

On-loan midfielder Lee Martin says he would love to join League One Charlton permanently if Town don’t want to keep him. The former Manchester United man has made a promising start to his Addicks career, scoring his first goal in last week’s Carling Cup defeat to Shrewsbury.

Martin said: “If I’m not wanted at Ipswich I would love to be at Charlton. In the two weeks I’ve been here I’ve felt more wanted than I did in my year at Ipswich. I’m enjoying my football and I’m looking forward to training."

Speaking shortly after the 23-year-old moved on loan to the Valley, Town boss Roy Keane said that the Blues could reassess Martin’s situation halfway through the season, hinting that he could be recalled if he impresses: “We were happy for Lee to go there to resurrect things because it’s gone a bit flat for Lee since he’s come here.

“He’ll get a run of games there and we’ll see how it pans out. We can look at it again in January.”

Martin joined Town from Manchester United last summer for a fee somewhere around the £1.6 million mark, signing a deal until 2013 on wages understood to be in the region of £13,000-a-week, much of which the Blues are likely to continue to be paying during his time with Charlton.

Rubbish, Charlton can't afford him - nor his wages. He's there on loan to get games and some form back. If he does well, great.

Warning: Not directly said he wasn't welcomed at Ipswich, but not far short. . . should be careful not to annoy Mr Keane? I can see him being recalled if injuries continue anyway!

i wonder if he would like it on Charlton's 3k rather than Town's 10k a week

Martin sadly didn't impress. Would be good if he could get some form, but alas, I am not expecting him to return as an outstanding player!

Maybe div. 1 is his correct level.

If he turns out to be half decent at Charlton then they might get promotion and sign him, someone else might take him in the summer or he might come back and challenge for a first team place.
However I fully expect he'll actually turn out to be kack for them too and we'll end up paying him to leave. Cannot argue with the anti-Keaneos that signing him, and more importantly signing him on 13k a ruddy week, was bewilderingly stupid.

Lee Martin Sir, at £12k/£13k a week, ITFC gave you a golden chance & welcomed you. I like many others thought Mr Keane has pulled off a great signing here, he knew you from his Old Trafford days, & knew what you could offer. Town fans I spoke to thought "What a signing" when you arrived, Howver, you have severely failed to live upto expectation, is that the fans fault?.... No, Is it Mr Keanes fault?..... No, Is it because you knew you could take such a huge salary for the next 4 years?...... Possibly, but mostly it's because you have shown no desire, no passion, little flair, little skill, little creativity, all things which we believed you were going to bring to our club. So, think on before you decide to have a pop at YOUR employers, it may come back to bite you on the arse.....

I had Sky Sports News on in the background last Tuesday, and for the first half, they kept having reports of "Lee Martin's brilliance sets up another goal... Lee Martin now scores one of his own... Scintillating, mazey runs of Lee Martin..." and I was grinding my teeth. Mind you, they then blew a 3-0 lead and lost 4-3 to Shrewsbury, so perhaps he forgot to cover back.

Probably because you've found your level to play at, you absolute pile of S*it. I think 90% of fans at PR would be happy never to see you wear the shirt again, you to55er. Hopefully someone buys this loser, to get him off the wage bill... Definately pound for pound THE worst signing i've ever witnesssed at PR...

Martin has probably found his level, a shocking signing by Keane and from the sound of it even worse man management after he joined .Maybe one of the reasons Evans has so far been reluctant to throw more money at Keane until his previous signings prove their worth ? Priskin,Edwards,Murphy,Brown,Healy have so far not done a great deal ,and even Leadbitter for £3.5 million has not set the championship alight ,so only Delaney for half a season is any real measure of success in bought players IMO
Although i think Fulop and Kennedy could be great signings this season

I don't know what you guys are on about, you're going about this all wrong! Lee Martin is an absolutely stunning, gifted player, with endless talent and true alegence to his football club. He is a team player and will always work hard and lift the team when performances are down. A key asset in any football team......
......so, all you major clubs out there, come and buy our prized player for £2mil and get this to$$er off our books!!!!!

Mr martin.

if you want to take a pay cut, then please go. And with RK saying he will reassess you half way through the season, your outspoken comments have probably applied another nail to your own ITFC coffin.

Sometimes I wonder why some people just cannot keep their mouths shut, or even think before they prattle on

I think he is just missing his Mummy. Alot of his family live in Beckenham , down the road so maybe its been enginered. WAS a top Man U reserve. What a fall from a great height to league 1 .

No one will buy him unless he is OUTSTANDING at Charlton , as he will now be linked to league 1 level and those collosal wages and contract length what are we going to do with him ?

I still think Keane's judgement must be called into serious doubt after buying this muppet as well as his other "major" buy Priskin. What the hell was he thinking? Unfortunately, I think he will be back as Charlton will wise up that he is useless and probably couldn't afford his wages anyway.

yes what a spoiled prat. He realises he wants out of ipswich so gobs off like lisbie and walters did so inevitably he will be told he will never play for ipswich again!! Why did he find the need to slag off Ipswich the club paying his wages theres no respect or loyalty with some of these players good riddance!!!

Was given a chance to relanuch his career at Ipswich (on a very generous contract for a player so unproven) & screwed it up, then given another chance by the club to go out on loan to Charlton and how does he repay us... by slagging off the club at the first chance.

Weigh anchor and leave town if you don't like it ... you're quite happy to sit there and take our money you selfish kn@b... wish I got overpaid for under-performing

Its a shame there aren't clauses in players contracts that can trigger hefty financial sanctions when they come out with tripe & disloyalty like this.

Well from reading the above comments - it looks like he is right!
See his wages are now £13,000 a week - they've gone up by a grand since the last report.
Still can't see what you all so uptight about - he only saying he wasn't wanted and if being transfer listed isn't saying you not wanted then what is!

"...I've felt more wanted than I did in my year at Ipswich"

Hang on, for 13k a week, I'd have sh*te thrown at me, what does he want, a cuddle and tucked in bed at night. I dont suppose most of us here on 'normal' wages in a normal job feel 'wanted' but we dont perform any worse and if we did we'd get the sack. And we're helping to pay his 13k a week too! Go and work at a call centre or fast food joint and you'll know what not feeling wanted is all about.

Good to know that Martin is enjoying life at Charlton but surprising to note that he “didn't feel wanted” at Ipswich.

So, who else was putting £12,000 in your bank account each week you little c*nt.

Allow me to rephrase your quote as follows....

“I'm trying hard to regain some form in an effort to rebuild my reputation at a club that have paid me an absolute fortune in return for next to nothing over the last year and whose fans I must have so disappointed. It's down to me to correct that and as a token of my commitment my September salary will go to the Treehouse appeal, a worthy cause that highlights the moral bankruptcy of my own profession, riddled as it is with greed and cycnicism”.

Didn't feel wanted. I ask you.
