Keane: O'Dea 50/50 for QPR Clash
Keane: O'Dea 50/50 for QPR Clash
Monday, 13th Sep 2010 14:03

Town boss Roy Keane says defender Darren O’Dea is 50/50 to make tomorrow’s home game against QPR. The on-loan Celtic man hurt the same knee at Portsmouth that he damaged while away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Keane said: “He’s 50/50 as last week. It’s not from the injury he got last week, it’s from the kick he got when he missed the chance and he collided with the post.

“You’re always a bit more wary when it’s a loan player, you have to be respectful to the club that he’s coming from. He’ll be very doubtful.”

The Blues boss says he has various alternative options: “Mark Kennedy could come in, although it’s not ideal, we could do with him having a run-out for the reserves on Wednesday. Tom Eastman could come in, Damien Delaney could come in at centre-half, Tommy Smith could go to left-back. We’ve got plenty of options.”

A weekend newspaper report linked West Brom left-back Joe Mattock with a loan move to Portman Road, but Keane says that’s not the area of the squad he’s looking to strengthen: “We’re not in for any defenders. We’re fine in terms of numbers for defenders. We’ve got Troy, Tom Eastman. As usual, the reports were 100% wrong!

“I think we’ve been linked with another number of players over the weekend, all of them completely wrong!”

Keane says there has been no progress on his loan target: “Not really no. I think we’re respectful of the club’s position and we’re OK at the moment. We would like someone to come in to give us competition in one area of the club, as simple as that.

“Everyone seems to be making a song and dance about it and second guessing who the player is. We’re relaxed, if the deal happens it does, if not, we’re coping OK, we’re getting players back from injury, we’ve got some good young players, so we’re OK.”

Keane reported no other injuries from Saturday’s game and says that the likes of Damien Delaney, Connor Wickham, Mark Kennedy and Luciano Civelli will feature in the reserves at Colchester on Wednesday if they don’t play a significant part against QPR.

Will be a buzzing atmosphere tomorrow. They are there for the taking if we go at them from the start. This game reminds me of the wigan game we played a couple of years ago when the winner would go top. Remeber a last minute darren bent goal hopefully wickham will do the same.

A repeat of last seasons home game with QPR will do nicely, thank-you.

As long as it is another 3 points, going to be a tough game though. COYB!

I think it is a big mistake not recruiting a right back. Though a talented and willing player who can be an asset going forward, Peters is not a defender by instinct, and if he is persevered with could scupper the promotion chances this year. If Brown can adopt to right back, would be more solid, though poor going forward.
In all other respects you would have to be very happy with the squad and management at the moment. Though not as strong as other clubs on paper (including Portsmouth), at last there is some real character, together with mental and physical toughness.
Expect a big peformance v QPR. Hope O'Dea is fit. Would like to see Priskin flanked by Edwards on right with Wickham coming in from left. Scotland still not quite fit or sharp enough IMO. Slight doubt about Townsend in a physical contest, though a great player to come in second half.

It will be a very tough game. One where the crowd will have to play its part. So lets all get behind the team no matter what.

Baines goal was a great goal but Benty's last minute lob in front of the north stand from outside the box was even better!

From Keane's comment it implies it is cover/competition for Hyam we are looking for, so i'm not sure who that could be in terms of a loanee?

Well i've just done my prediction for tonights game and i've got us down for a 2-1 win, I think the way Keano has got the boy's playing at the minute is a credit to himself as they really look like they want to play for not only the club but also the manager. i think we now have a nice balance between youth and experianced players in the team and that is starting to show,
As for getting lonees in, I think Keano is under the impression that if he floods the team with them then at some point in the season they will have to go back to there repected clubs and then we have to start building a team again but at the minute i think we only have two or three (O'Dea,Townsend) which when you come to think about it bowds well for us in the long run. I think that if we do get lonees in then we should be looking at them for a loan to start with with the potential to a perminant move....... Don't try and fix something that's not broken and as Kean said we have alot of exciting youngsters coming through.

Very encoraging for the future of the club i think and the wage bill has gone down as well.......COYB

ChambersM i think you probably need to get a life! Why do you manage to put a negative spin on every single post? Did someone tell you santa didnt exist at a very early age and you've been bar humbug ever since??! A tough game today when all players need to give 110%, and the fan definately will play a part, i will be singing my heart out in Britannia!!
