A Song for Ipswich
A Song for Ipswich

Tom Hark by the Piranhas and The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger have both been used as Town’s goal celebration music in recent seasons but now the search is on for a local artist or band to create a new piece of music to accompany the inevitable post-goal jumping around and screaming.

With music copyright laws changing, clubs are facing increased demands for fees and royalties, therefore Town and a number of other clubs are looking to provide their own music for goal celebrations.

This is an opportunity to not only give the Blues fans a new piece of celebration goal music, but also give a budding or established artist or band a great chance to gain media attention and put themselves on the musical map locally.

Those interested in providing material, which should consist of a piece of music about 30-45 seconds long, should send it to Barry Calver, who is on the Supporters' Club's media committee, at the address below before January 31st 2011.

After this cut-off date, depending on the number received, the entries will be played at half-time in two or three home games later in the season to gain supporters’ general opinion.

Town will then call on fans to make the final decision by casting their votes via the matchday programme and various websites.

All entries to be sent on a CD to:

I always liked the idea of Phil Lynott's Old Town - memories of the time when we were a top team.

The way they are playing now Send in the Clowns might be more appropriate.

Seriously a silly idea, mad, and stupid. - if we ever do qualify for Europe again will they be running "A song for europe"?

Asa Jennings- Let's Go To Town. The only choice, in my opinion.

What about 'Get Back' by the Beatles. As RK will make sure we don't come out of our half again if we DO actually go one nil up.

Or 'Whe're on the Road to Nowhere' by Talking Heads to remind everyone how far we have actually come in the last nine years.

This posting has really had some interesting comments - at the end of the day its the fans choice and if the vote is "no music" then that will be the choice as agreed by the club.I wish to point out I am a supporter through thick & thin like everbody else on this board and don't work for the football club.

I don't think we will score many so having music is not crucial!

BlueistheColor: It's from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. I think the song is called O Fortuna.

Could always find something written by (Trad Arr) from long ago which is out of copyright then wouldn't have to pay anything.

Lets go to town?? seriously?? why not just keep it as it is?? the reason chelsea dagger is used is because its got a catchy bit people can sing to, you cant really have a song which has singing that would be pointless

Bit w@nk by looking to dodge royalties, or indeed a one-off payment. Bands trying to make it get short-changed enough as it is. Royalties via MCPS are one of the few ways of getting a few £££ back to the actual artist.

Anyone who accepts the bleet that it is good free publicity and will help the band in other ways is wrong. If your bands track was chosen, how well would future sales go in Norfolk? Exactly. And not just Norfolk but the wider football/band loving fan as a whole.

I think Barry Calver is just a humble supporters club bloke! Poor man is gonna have abuse hurled at him.

On a more relevant note...the club's song of choice should be 'Downtown'. '

'Going down, Town.'

surely this will fall flat, fans(whichever club) pick a tune that then gets picked up by the whole crowd, it never works when we are given a song to sing, fan powert will have its way...
anyway how about irish rover by the pogues ?

Surely we do not pay much, we would only hear it once a year anyway!

NO MUSIC!!

It ruins the atmosphere when we score, there is nothing better than the sound of a crowed roaring.

Sibelius8 added 16:38 - Nov 23
No music please!

Such intrusions to our goal celebrations cheapens us all, diluting our mutual joy, and can only be detrimental to the general atmosphere at PR.

What possible point is there? Whatever next? "Musak" throughout the game?

Background music is already a very annoying distraction with televised football highlights such as "Goal of the Month."
