O'Connor Turned Down Hereford Move
O'Connor Turned Down Hereford Move
Monday, 6th Dec 2010 23:10

TWTD understands that League Two Hereford United were the club set to sign Town youngster Shane O’Connor on loan prior to the deadline a fortnight ago. The left-back or midfielder turned down the move, preferring to stay at Portman Road to fight for his place.

At the time, boss Roy Keane revealed that 20-year-old O’Connor had refused a switch but not the club involved: “Shane had an opportunity to go out. I spoke to him on Thursday and he wanted to stay and I’ve no problem with that.

"We feel that some of our young players can go out to get experience."

Meanwhile, New Zealander Tewi Te Pou is set for trials with Town, Watford and Reading, according to reports in his homeland.

The 19-year-old right-back or winger, who currently plays for Kiwi club Waikato, will spend three weeks in England trying to win himself a professional deal.

Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be eyeing League One Dagenham and Redbridge’s Romain Vincelot. The Blues, Charlton, Millwall and Reading are all said to have been regular visitors to Victoria Road this season to watch the Frenchman in action.

Vincelot began his career as a full-back but has impressed as a midfielder since switching roles last season. The 25-year-old previously played in France with Chamois Niortais and Gueugnon.

Does anyone still think Keane can turn this club around, his decision making always has been a joke. Perhaps this is another 'fall out' with yet another player, great man management Keaneo, Taxi.................

The O'Connor move just doesn't make any sense. Our best left back, what good is sending him out on loan, when after all, doesn't Roy keep saying "We're short of numbers"?

One of the mysteries of this season is the treatment of Shane O'Connor. A really promising young lad who earned himself a new contract and the number a 3 shirt who disappeared without being given a chance despite Kennedy's injuries. Centre-backs were played out of position rather than letting O'Connor have a game, and it doesn't make sense at all to us fans.

O'conner is quality. I don't see why we'd need a new right back, oh right yeah that's because Jamie Peters in Keane's eye's isn't good enough. We need to be looking for a new CM norris and Leadbitter are just tosimilar we need someone bigger like Trotter.

Good to be looking at youngsters in improving footballing nations. Developing players has always been a strength at Ipswich, see Shane O'Connor. Buying from 'new' footballing nations could give us the upper hand on talent. Wish Tewi Te Pou luck when he comes over. What happened to those Aussie triallists we had a feweks ago?
