Murphy: Blame Us Not the Boss
Murphy: Blame Us Not the Boss
Monday, 13th Dec 2010 13:53

Keeper Brian Murphy says he and his team-mates are to blame for the Blues’ current woes and not manager Roy Keane. Saturday’s defeat at Preston was Town’s sixth successive league loss.

Murphy told the club site: "There should be none of this pointing the finger at the gaffer, he puts the team out but it's down to the players to perform and at the moment - for whatever reason - we are not doing that.

"As players we have to look at ourselves. Each of us has to take responsibility for the performances. We're not playing that badly but we are making mistakes that are costing us and we're not putting the ball in the net at the other end.

"It's just not working for us but we've got to find a way that does work for us. We've got to dig deep as players.

“There is no lack of effort but we need something to go for us. We need that bit of luck but you create luck in football and in life."

Murphy, 27, has been back in the Town side for the last three games but Hungarian keeper Márton Fülöp could be in contention for Saturday's live Sky game with Leicester (KO 5.20pm) after his ankle injury.

Not really sure what town fans want - the Keane outers site the fact that Keane does not manage well yet the players come out and say that they support him and that they take the blame.

I am not a happy town fan at the moment but am not sure that getting rid of Keane is the answer - It has been mentioned before that he needs an assistant or 'mentor' that can have a fresh input and I would like to see us go down this route first

yes totally agree Murphy - Prisken, Towsend you lazy good for nothing sit-arounds you, how do you expect the manager to succeed when you sit twiddling your thumbs on the bench eh? Delaney you too have a lot to answer for, fancy taking a day off saturday when experience was lacking in defence?? dear oh dear these players really have a lot to answer for?

Keane picks the side, its up to the players to perform. The players Keane has brough in are not players, even Martin was a good player when we brought him, but for whatever reason, be it the style we play or the management style of Keane, they are just not performing to their maximum. Sure Keanes tatics and subs are a bit weird, its still up to the players to get the job done.

If we replace Keane, it has to be a man manager like Houghton, the Doncaster manager or Zola, to get behind the team and nurture our young talent and play some decent passing football. Did you hear the amount of completed passes barcelona did in on game? Our version is punt it foward, were lucky to get 4 or 5 completed passes during the game let alone one attack.

Keane has been here for 18 months and people now say - oh he needs an assistant , a mentor - Keane doesnt listen to anyone except Keane - he is not management material - If he was a total rookie just out of playing and if he didnt say 'any idiot can take a team to mid table in championship' maybe I would agree . Not with Keane - he has had a go and aint up to the task - enough fannying about move on - Life is tough and you live and die by results , it is a business - like it or not - Goodbye Mr Keane

I don't want to keep hearing Keane lament the lack of goals. I don't want to keep hearing players come out in support of him. I don't want to keep hearing people playing the blame-game. I don't want to keep hearing players taking responsibility for their mistakes and poor form. This is all obvious to anyone. It doesn't need spelling out. There's been enough talk recently. It's action, not words ,that is required right now.

Such problems were identified within the first few weeks of last season. The concern is, little has been done to correct issues that originally surfaced over a year ago. Why has there been such little progress? Why have stupid mistakes not been ironed out by now? The manager and coaches must bare the brunt of the blame. If it really was due to the ineptitude of the players, this spells serious trouble for the future.

We have heard it from Norris, Edwards & now Murphs.
I bet the team are drawing straws every game to see who gets to defend the boss & blame players. Unlucky Murphy got the short one this weekend.
I reckon Leadbitter will be next.

Did u guys know that Keaned banned hi-fives in the dressing room before games! He is killing the team spirit with his tactics and questionable motivation techniques? Maybe Eineen Druary (from glen hoddle england era) will be next weeks motivational speaker!

As fans we don't need anyone telling us that the team were an embarassment and that they let us and the club down. However I am sick and tired of being told by the players that it is not the managers fault. It's

YORKSHIRE - are you mad, what a crazy comment?!?!? If RK is not up to managing the club/players/tactics etc (which I firmly believe he isn't) why the hell would they/or should then, bring someone else in to do his job for him or 'help him out'???

What has Keane brought to the party that is worth hanging on to in any shape of form, meaning we'd have to bring 'someone' in to make him look/perform better???

Utter nonsense!

Think about it, if someone is brought in to help Keane out and things are turned around, then bin Keane and have the guy brought in, as the manager, because he will have been the factor for any improvement not Keane!

It's the players fault. Why bother having a manager? Surely they can vote for the best team as that's all the manager does. Would be a great cost saving.

I do blame you as the players Murphy, but i also blame Keane more, and Clegg, and the coaching staff who have us playing such awful negative football. Keane signed most of you and got rid of the likes of Rhodes just because he fell out with his old man it seems! Keep scoring Jordan your making Keane look even more of an idiot!

LOL - So what you're saying is after making another finincial loss, rapidly sliding towards the drop zone, motivation, unrest and support at an apparent all time low what we do is get a 'potential new manager' under the guise of 'assistant manager' and if we suddenly improve we sack Keane and make the new guy manager... Speechless, I really am!

Do you not think any potential manager worth his salt would not accept an assistant managers job, seems kind of a step down to me. Then as a deal clincher to take the position, we just say 'it's ok mate, if we win a few games we'll put it down to you being a better manager and just sack Keane, however we just need to use you as a fall guy to check if RK really is rubbish...'

Then do you not think RK would be reluctant to work with someone on the basis they were being used to prove he's crap????

Seriously... With the current circus managing ITFC, why the hell not it's about the right level of decision making. But come on guys, thinking caps on please!!!

How can he change things so dramatically in a few weeks when he has regressed us so much in 18 months!!

Its not a mater of if, but when!!

Do we really have to wait to next season for something to look forward too?

Wait until Keane goes and some of his "loyal" players will tell it like it really is !!!

Anybody care to celebrate with me? It's been a year since I told you all that Keane was a $hit manager. It's so nice to say that these days without being shouted down !!!!

I was on the fence regarding Keane, but I can't take any more of this. It's becoming a bloody embarrassment. He's obviously lost the dressing room and it's not because of the so-called trouble makers it's because he's a poor man-manager! Sack RK, sack SC and bring in Chris Hughton or Alan Curbishley or hopefully a manager who doesn't put the bloody fear of god into the players before they walk out on the pitch. They're so worried about F@cking up all they do is F@ck up!! This isn't the Ipswich I knew and loved!
