Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 17:44

Boss Roy Keane says he will be looking to add to his striking ranks when the transfer window opens in January. The Town manager feels the Blues have found goals hard to come by throughout his time at Portman Road.

Keane says he’ll have to look at bringing in loan or permanent attacking signings in the new year: “I think I’ve been more than loyal to the strikers. I think Rory Fallon actually did quite well for us last week, a boy just coming in on loan. Jason started and Priskin came off the bench last weekend.

“But we still don’t score enough goals. That’s not necessarily down to your strikers, but it does help if one or two of your strikers are more of a goal threat. When they get the chances they’ve got to take them.

“I watch matches every week and teams get half the chances we get and it’s in the back of the net, whereas we seem to get four or five chances and even then don’t take them. And unless you put the ball in the back of the net, you’re going nowhere.”

The Town manager says he is yet to hold talks regarding the January budget and targets, although chief executive Simon Clegg has already confirmed that funds will be available: "Every window that we have gone into we have invested in the playing squad and I don't see that changing in January.

"If the manager wants to bring in players in January then he will have the opportunity to do that."

Get Rhodes back, he's only a million quid now - or give Wickham a few games!

Charlie Austin at Swindon (might be difficult though as Celtic are sniffing) great goal poacher which we need. Scores in most games for them. be about £1m

Charlie Austin I wish....we'll probably be knocking on the door of Staines Town asking if they have any reserves in need of match practise...

We don't need strikers, Scotland is a goalscorer and so is Wickham, but they just need to be fed well by a midfield which stays the same!!

he means he is going to sign Fallon permanently!!!!!! If we played Scotland in a true poaching role with attacking full backs and true wingers he woudl score goals... we could get in Torres but without the service goals will not come. For some long he has been playing a lets play negative football and hope we sneak a goal - how is that the strikers fault? As for Prisken no wonder he isnt scoring he doesnt know he A** from his elbow, MOM several weeks on trot and firstly gets taken off early and then is dropped to bench. Keane it isnt the strikers fault its YOUR FAULT.

Its all about quality Roy. Problem is that jkind of quality dont come cheap - and certainly doesnt want to play at this level.

Play Connor wickham and Priskin every game, no matter what they do. Given 'em a run of 10 games or so . Its the only way to build up a partnership.

Why havent I mentioned Scotland as a main striker ?

Because he's too bloody slow, and appears to have "lost" that initial yard on defenders.

I'd love to see it Blue Lady. He loves us and we love him still!

He's match fit from playing for Derby & Swansea don't want him. It might give Keane a bit of time - if the he re-signs a fans favourite too....!?

Karlos - even Chopra wont score without an attacking formation!!! it has to be time for a new Chopra rumour though doesnt it! Maybe that is why Keane is upbeat its a done deal???!!!! :-)

Can we get David Johnson upfront and get Jonny Walk in midfield? That would get us goals! We could have Stewart from the bench too...

blue_square Shefti is definately one of my all time fav's, still remember his face when he tore his hamstring last time he was here on loan, he was devistated as he so desperately wanted to play for us again - you cannot buy that passion. Hasnt he publically said recently he'd love to return? did i imagine that?

We need a decent playmaker to go with the striker and they should be bought not loaned. Nowadaysyou have to put a "downpayment" for a loan player so with 6 of them we must be forking out a pretty packet for these. ffs dont buy fallon after loan finished.

Le Fondre from Rotherham and Lallana from Southampton.

Screw the stikers, can't we sign a new manager? Keane must be on a MASSIVE wage, let's get Graham Turner in.

Agree, but will it be a Chopra at the expence of a Wickham!!!!!! with a Townsend as a make way.

If they want attacking players and proven goalscorers they will have to pay top notch for them, so as Keane said one or two will have to go, and a Wickham would make us some money to do that, but I would love to see him given a good run in the team

I struggle to think of anyone that we might be able to afford. Ellington on a free? A different option to what we alreay have...

Keano couldn't sign his own name. We have about as much chance of signing Chopra as we do Torres or Drogba.

Definitely a lower league loan signing and the 2m we get for Wickham will go stright into Marcus' pocket.

Find yourself half a brain 2M for Wickham you really do talk out the wrong end.

Maybe Darren Ambrose could be an option. A genuine goalscoring threat from midfield.
His recent loan spell diddnt work out too well a few seasons ago but he has really improved with regular games the past 2 seasons. I would love to see him back, getting on the ball and creating chances and scoring goals.
As far as I know, he hasnt signed a new contract with Palace and we could get him relatively cheap as his contract is up soon.
