Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 17:44

Boss Roy Keane says he will be looking to add to his striking ranks when the transfer window opens in January. The Town manager feels the Blues have found goals hard to come by throughout his time at Portman Road.

Keane says he’ll have to look at bringing in loan or permanent attacking signings in the new year: “I think I’ve been more than loyal to the strikers. I think Rory Fallon actually did quite well for us last week, a boy just coming in on loan. Jason started and Priskin came off the bench last weekend.

“But we still don’t score enough goals. That’s not necessarily down to your strikers, but it does help if one or two of your strikers are more of a goal threat. When they get the chances they’ve got to take them.

“I watch matches every week and teams get half the chances we get and it’s in the back of the net, whereas we seem to get four or five chances and even then don’t take them. And unless you put the ball in the back of the net, you’re going nowhere.”

The Town manager says he is yet to hold talks regarding the January budget and targets, although chief executive Simon Clegg has already confirmed that funds will be available: "Every window that we have gone into we have invested in the playing squad and I don't see that changing in January.

"If the manager wants to bring in players in January then he will have the opportunity to do that."

He was making the right noises as he is going to sign Fallon on a permanent deal, he needs to get a midfielder that can create some chances, go and get the one we could have had last season, Darren Ambrose.

I think we need one more striker someone like Billy Sharp or David Nugent. Then one or two creative midfielders maybe such as Darren Ambrose or that Hammil guy that scores for fun. Theres just times where i wish i could be the person who buys the players but nothing else. Anyone agree with the players?

It's funny how we were told in the summer 'we have to save money for wages etc' so supposedly we had to get rid of stead in particular and now he is just going to go out and buy more dross. It's pathetic. Good luck everyone btw with your wish-list because our manager doesn't like creative players, that is why we don't score goals - the formation, the game plan etc. boring, negative, defensive, unimaginative and I quote: 'try not to give a goal away and see if we can nick a winner'. Pathetic for an ipswich manager, go see if blackburn are interested you muppet!

Strikers? If Keane bought a box of Swan Vestas they'd all be duds.

I think it will be a case of window shopping January sales for the unemployed, by the unemployed.Cant see us going into New year with Keane, its a bit of a dilema .If we lose against Leicester, would Evans take action or will he wait till after Christmas by which time we could be really in the sh#t.I suspect that will be the case, cant see us having a managerless Christmas.[not that it would have an adverse effect ]

Still can't believe this numpty let Rhodes go for peanuts without having a proper look at him.

This article just about sums up Roy Keane as a "manager"..can't get the best out of his players (Scotland netted 50 goals in 2 seasons for swansea),so he has to go and bring in a few more etc etc.

Keane, you are very fast becoming a total disgrace..as i've said before, show even some slight dignity and pi55 off...you are a joke.

..and just to add..if there is any justice in this sport of ours you will be long gone before you get the chance to waste anymore of our owner's precious cash.

Clown.

I hope we don't sign Fallon. I wonder if Roy will be here to sign anyone? If he is, then a striker and CREATIVE midfield player are a must.

lightening boy, do you know for sure 100% it was Keane saying Jordon your not good enough im going to sell you? Like i said before i think you will find it was a lot more political than that and had a lot to do with who Jordons father is and his relationship with the club. Im not sure on that particular occaision Keane had much choice, but i too could be wrong. Thats the trouble with not being close enough to really know what goes on behind closed doors....

bluelady..I think Keane did say that he didn't have room in his squad/side for 2 youngsters (Rhodes & Wickham)..which is why he let Jordan go.

..how many goals has he knocked in for Huddersfield now in the last 18 months?..must be nearly 30.

Yet another window beckons & we see the same old names as ever; "linked" with him " rumoured" to be signing whoever. Truth is Evans would never pay all that much out to sign ANYBODY, even if Keano did see that "look of character - someone who really wants to come & play here" etc. Lets be realistic, then we wont get anymore dissapointments. We "may" just about squeeze in one of these up n coming lower league hot shots - if we are lucky & the board doesnt think they are "over valued", like it usually does !

Reading alot of possible strikers, but here are some players who would help:

Jan Koller - big man, superb record of scoring, would cause havoc on set pieces, yes is ageing but just right for championship .

Jason Roberts - proven goal scorer at perm and champ level

Why is it that his only response is to buy his way out of a problem? ( No need to answer that). You dont get fantastic players at this level but any decent manger who is successful at this level gets them to play as a team or has to be tactically astute. Unfortunately Roy is neither. For goodness sake we have got Norris, Colback and Leadbitter doing the same job and its no coincidence that we play better with at least one of them on the bench.

Its not the strikers its the negative formation we play. use wingers and a holding midfielder as we did at the start of the season to let Norris and Leadbetter get forward. also the further we fall down the table the less chance there is anyone decent will want to come here.

Don't give him anymore money to spend, he has wasted the money he has had to spend. Agree with most posts on here, its a playmaker we need in the middle, we had a good one, In Owen Garven. We have the strikers, its the tactics, formation and the constant changing the team. Send the loan players back and get a new manager in like O'driscoll, who can get the bargins from lower league. Austin from Swindon would be a good punt.

who ever he gets in is normally played wrong, its like getting a rottwieler for a guard dog then pulling its bloody teeth out. I think it has to be new manager first then a shake up ,and yes dare i say it get rid of Keanes ''dead wood '', and wait for it START BUILDING !.yes folks the past 18 months soon to be 2 years has been a complete waste of time and money .The only thing Keane has achieved is to make Jim Magilton look good.

Play a better system - Prefer he gets an attacking midfielder and a Full back - Right - give O Connor a run out with Townshend and use the width - i think we would score goals if only he had a system and told the players about it - sadly - as has been shown him and his coaches are clueless

If we now need more strikers, why was Jon Stead allowed to go when he started the season well ? We then pay £750K for Scotland who looks well past his best and now we want to pay out more money in Jan for another potentially poor signing by good old Roy. I don't get it.

A lot of you talk about Chops coming here?
Isnt he on 20k a week at Cardiff ? If so then we have no chance. Keane had to sell Stead as he was ok 14k a week and Evans has a wage cap of roughly 12- 12.5k a week.
