Jewell: Hull's Pearson Wrong On Bullard's Wages
Jewell: Hull's Pearson Wrong On Bullard's Wages
Saturday, 5th Feb 2011 08:24

Boss Paul Jewell has dismissed Hull City's head of football operations Adam Pearson’s claim that Town are paying £20,000 towards loan signing Jimmy Bullard’s £45,000 weekly wage. Writing in Hull’s programme for their 2-2 draw with Leeds on Tuesday, Pearson said that the Blues were paying £321,480 towards Bullard’s salary during his time at Portman Road.

Jewell said: “Everyone talks about his money and I have to say Adam Pearson’s figures have never been that good, but the figures that he’s quoted saying that we’re paying Jimmy are certainly way off.

“I’m a big fan of Adam Pearson’s, I worked with him [at Derby], he’s terrific, but he’s got his figures wrong there.”

Jewell says the Blues are not paying a loan fee for the 32-year-old, who remains contracted to Hull until the summer of 2013 as part of a £5 million move from Fulham during the Tigers’ time in the Premier League, prior to Pearson’s involvement with the East Yorkshiremen.

Town have not officially commented on their share of Bullard’s earnings but sources within the club have hinted at a figure close to the £10,000-a-week initially reported by the Hull Daily Mail which led to Pearson to make an earlier comment on the issue.

Jewell says it helps having Bullard’s optimistic and outgoing approach to life around a club: “He’s a very positive person, obviously he’s had a couple of bad injuries at Hull, but in the two or three years I had him at Wigan I don’t think he ever missed a training session. And you certainly knew he was in.

“He was just infectious. You want to strangle him at times, but he’s a positive person and he wants to play football. He’s missed a lot of football.

“He’s a positive person and he will have a positive effect on training and around the place, and more importantly on the game.”

Easy boys.

AmberAndBlack comes here and tells us what he has been told and believes is the truth. We've been told something different by our people and we (some of us) believe that. AmberAndBlack hasn't been abusive, only making a funny, alleged reference to Mr Jewell.

Let's start appreciating others' opinions (especially when they are politely given). If we make out that we're such a wonderful club, let's start behaving like one.

i think the fact money has such a huge part in todays game means that everyone in a position of authority in any club which doesnt have a crazy rich benefactor has to be seen to be saying the right things. Would you part with your cash for a season ticket if you thought the top guys were blowing the cash 24/7?

as with any business agreement, it has to be believed to be a win win for both parties from the outset, the finer detail ought to remain between the two parties.

However, once media speculation gets involved, its very hard for people not to come out and defend their corner, which is understandable.

I do believe in this case though, both clubs should publish the actual deal, or keep schtum.....

its doing no one any good with all the bickering......

Thanks for that. We have just suffered one of the biggest lying, spindoctoring, slimy Chairmen of all time in Paul Duffen. He was incumbant when we won promotion but merely saw us over the line after all the hard work put in by Adam Pearson, the previous owner/Chairman and present incumbant. Point is we KNOW the difference between an honest man and a succesful "Eskimo Fridge Salesman".
I have a lot of respect for ITFC on so many levels, so it's a shame some choose to disrespect my club with tawdry comments about fans forums. If that poster wants to turn this into a "My Clubs bigger than yours" Battle then so be it, but I've always found such arguments exceedingly boring. Needless to say we sold out for Home fans every single match we played in the Premier League and haven't dipped below 20,000 once this season, and wont do for the rest of the season.

I agree with some on here that this is now boring as well as childish and wish there was some way the figures would be formally published as that would be an end to things.

Good luck for the rest of the season and I hope you are right about next season and we are both in the mix come the end.

SeeTheh!

What would he possibly gain by publicising the details of one player? Why not the whole HCFC squad? Surely if it is ok to publicise this then it is ok to tell us the entire ditribution of the HCFC wage structure? We have only got inklings of what our players get paid when such details leak out. I don't think it is the god given right for me as a fan to know. HCFC know that that is the ITFC position yet they comment on one player. I work in a school where pay is now based on performance and it is a very hot topic here and people are very secretive about what they get so as not to cause friction.

I do apologize for saying get off our forum as you are clearly not being mischievous. Please stay and give us your opinion (thank you to ClassyIpswichLass for being the voice of reason.

You are forgiven Worcester_Worrier ;-)

Well, I think you have to understand Adam Pearson. He is a very fair guy. If you poll other clubs who have had dealings with him they will tell you the same, especially Manchester United who we have an excellent relationship with.

However, Adam is either your best friend or your worst enemy. He's a dour Yorkshireman (God Bless HIM!) who likes looking after his brass! He hates Jimmy Bullard. He thinks the deal to get him to the KC was an appauling piece of business but Bullards behaviour in the Summer really burnt bridges between the two of them.

To relieve the financial pressure (and this was before the Meggabucks current owners bought the Club) Adam brokered a deal for Bullard to go on loan to Celtic. When they went up to Glasgow to dot eyes and cross tees, Bullard turned round and said he wanted a pay increase (YES, A PAY INCREASE!!!) from the £45k he was on to go up to Celtic. Pearson was livid and became Bullards worst enemy. This is notanything either will come out with and WAS embarrassing to Adam as he had his legs chopped from under him by Bullard.

So in answer to your post you cannot compare our treatment of Bullard with anyone else as he is an exceptional case. All I would say is Adam Pearson has secured the removal of 23 players from the Club in the last 6 months. Not one of them has left slating him or even on bad terms. The only one that has refused to see reason is Bullard who continues to hide behind his contract.

Good luck with him, I hope you fare better than we did. But remember he may be your hero , but we are paying for that. If you offered him a reduced contract, you wouldn't see him for dust.

AmberAndBlack. I must agree with your last point regarding Mr Bullard & not seeing him for dust if offered a reduced wage. However, i believe he will help us in the short term & will be money well spent dragging us away from the dreaded drop zone, especially as he has an excellent relationship wit Mr Jewell. Good luck for the rest of the season Amber (although not at our expense in a few weeks), i,m off to Portman Rd now to give our blue boys my undying support. COYB.

Amber and black
you would believe hcfc statement as we believe itfc statement.
But i know due to the lack of signings we make that we will not pay o.t.t wages or fee's, we hear so many times that we were unable to agree terms.

Can this story not be allowed to die, now? Will never be resolved and, frankly, is largely irrelevant.

"we don't give a toss about Bullard" ... you obviously do.

I thought he was a superb today, 'imposing'. With the state we were in 4 weeks ago money was invested in one loan signing. Money well spent or down the toilet? I know what I think. So far so very,, very good. Thanks PJ. Norris has lifted his game, that's great but if he wants to go he will. Not bothered, at the moment PJ looks totaly capable of finding a replacement. We move on, at last. Just my thoughts anyway! COYB

I think the point now is; Bullard is here - seems to have made a very good start to life at the club - regardless of what he's getting paid, it doesn't make any difference now - so time to draw a line and move on!

Hull city supporter here.
I for one am delighted that Bullard is back playing. When hes up for it, there is no one better and he is a delight to watch. Just too often of late he looked disinterested here, and the rumour mills buzz with talk of a lack of discipline. We cant sustain his wages so anything another club offer is a bonus, but really Jimmy needs to be signed by another team and playing regulalry.
Also glad delaney is playing so well, i was really dissapointed to see him leave the tigers. He scored a length of the pitch solo goal here which lasts in the memory, a good honest player. Glad your on the up, and have at last got a manaer who knows what hes doing. best of luck for the season.
