Town Topic: The Greatest Town Goals Monday, 7th Feb 2011 15:24
Connor Wickham's goal against Sheffield United on Saturday is being hailed as one of the best ever scored at Portman Road, but which other goals are worthy of joining it on the list?

My favourite was Kevin Beattie, last league game of the season in 1975 against West Ham. I really disliked West ham for putting us out of the FA Cup Semis thanks to ref Clive Thomas' appalling performance. This went only a small way to compensate when we won 4-1, and Beattie's goal was fantastic, when he used his strength to power through the entire West ham defence before scoring a wonderful goal.
I can recall many great goals, Paul Mason lob against palace and his last ever touch against exeter I believe from a near impossible angle, taricco against man utd, Petta against Norwich in the 5-0, reuser against Bolton just for the occasion, Neil Thompson 95th minute free kick against Portsmouth for a 3-2 win, tommy miller hit a cracker in off the bar but I can't recall the opposition, Danny sonner overhead kick, Adam tanner diving header from edge of area in the Anglo italian There have also been some goals against us that iv seen the town fans up to applaud, andy towsend for Aston villa, Kevin lisbie for charlton (yes that Kevin lisbie) and in more recent times Leighton baines for wigan
Shefki kuqi.. at Palace away were it ended up something like 4-3 and he scored straight after kick off from ther goal for us to win it with only a few minutes left.. from what i can remeber?!
Anyone remember Kieron Dyers header from around 20 yards against Bolton in the play offs (the one we lost in the semis)? Brilliant due to it's absurdity!
Alan Lee away at Leeds to send them down for just sheer going completely mental
I suppose since we're apparently including away games the best I've ever seen live would have to be Jermaine Wright's stunner against Rotherham. Pure class!
I also seem to remember very good build up play to David Unsworth's debut (and probably only) goal for us away at Sheff U, he just smashed it edge of the box as I recall
AND any goal by Martijn Reuser. Wembley in particular
Mick Mills V Liverpool in the seventies. Not a classic but 88 mins I think it was and Millsy slid it in through the mud, 1-0 job done. We didnt beat them too often, very special goal.
Must be a lot of young supporters on here today, if you get a chance get the DVD showing the goals in the early 80s. Most of the goals scored were brilliant, but then again we had some star players at that time.
